My BB5 brakes have seized over the years, and their “dials” have broken off to some extent. So I’m thinking of replacing them, but I wonder if BB7s would be an upgrade, or if they might not work at all with the Shimano levers I have installed. I’d be grateful for some practical accounts before I go shopping, please and thanks!
I remember that CCR’s “Born on the Bayou” featured heavily in the trailers and adverts when this ran in cinemas, but I was too young to see it, at the time.
I finally got around to watching it, and was surprised to hear the song only as a cover, performed by a bar band. Mind, I’m aware that sometimes the original recordings will be substituted with covers for DVD, VHS and streaming release, and I wonder if that happened here. Does anyone here remember watching it in the cinema? Was the bar scene soundtracked by the original CCR tune, or could it have been reshot/recut to make it a rather pedestrian performance by the bar band? Thanks.
I've not encountered a problem like this before, so I'm just wondering how best to start. I have a new Western Digital Elements 14TB HDD split into two 7TB APFS partitions: "Media Library" has FLACs, movies, lossy audio, that sort of thing. The performance has been abysmal: a paused movie in VLC may stay frozen for ten seconds after I resume playback. Downloading large files into that partition shows a similar lag before the process actually starts. Music playback skips, dropping seconds from a song (the effect is rather like "fast-forwarding").
I ran a benchmark app, 12 sessions of 60 seconds each. The average write rate over twelve minutes was 199 MB/s, and average read rate was 198 MB/s. Don't those numbers suggest I should expect better performance?
Connectivity details: this comes with a custom USB cable (ugh), so I have to use a dongle to convert it from the USB type-A connector to USB-C. Otherwise, it's plugged right into the side of my Macbook Pro, bypassing my dock.
System Info sees it on the USB3.1 Bus, with a 5GB/s link speed, so it doesn't appear to be negotiating at a slower rate.

In the blues, the flatted-third and flatted-fifth are often both called the “blue note” that distinguishes its particular mood and feel. For me, in trad, that “blue note” is the C-natural, or the seventh in D-mixolydian. Some musicians, like Willie Clancy, Seamus Ennis, Denis Murphy and maybe everyone in Planxty, really leaned into it with a flourish, alighting on it often and rarely as a simple passing tone. I just wonder if there are colloquial names for that particular move, analogous to “the blue note,” in the parlance of trad. How would you describe it if you were talking to another musician, trading airs, etc?

A couple days ago, I spilled some cold, black coffee (no sugar) on my Magic Keyboard, and some of the keys, notably the Enter and tab keys, are slower or stickier than others. I wonder if I could get away with pouring ”high test” isopropyl over the keyboard to flush out whatever‘s left in there. Or is this a very bad idea?
You know, the silver-haired lady and her comrades in some kind of post-apocalyptic world. Any ideas or leads about them and how they relate to this? Search turned up nothing, but there are probably loads of ways to describe them.
This was “just announced,” so maybe they’re filling in the details. Is “Dive” the name of the night, or is this the Dirk Ivins industrial/EBM band of the same name? Hoping for the latter.
It’s especially bad with Apple‘s own apps, like Numbers and Pages, where cmd-F to find requires additional taps with the pad or on the screen, or blocks of text just jump all over the place, or the active page jumps backwards whenever I switch focus between apps. I can’t even switch between languages AND the emoji keyboard using the globe button; it’s one behavior or the other. Or how I have to disconnect and reseat the iPad in the case when the keyboard randomly stops working.
I’m sure there’s only so much patience for posts like this here, but this is so bad for something that cost so much money.
Edit, for those replying that they can't replicate the issue, let's ensure we're comparing apples to apples:
Add a second language to your keyboard preferences, I have German and Irish after English, YMMV. Type something up in notes for giggles try switching to the other language using Magic Keyboard's globe button. If it shows you the emoji menu, look for the other language. If it shows you another language, try try selecting an emoji.
The "hardware keyboard" settings are explicit: "Use (globe) to show Emoji instead of switching languages."
Some happy accidents sound like distorted vocals, but it’s all in the patch.

I haven't had to put that much thought into this all these years - what's the preferred way to distinguish the bands? With a number appended, a la Discogs, or a country name, or something else? I'm interested in how the rest of you manage these outliers. Thanks.
