Town Lake Hike & Bike Trail all the way to Bastrop!?!! Please do Lower Colorado River survey.

Town Lake Hike & Bike Trail all the way to Bastrop!?!! Please do Lower Colorado River survey.

It seems like a far-fetched idea, but there are a lot of people looking at the Lower Colorado River Corridor these days.

Please do this survey: https://www.lowercoloradowrap.org/

And point out how important a long-distance hike & bike trail (or even better, separated bikeway trail and hiking trail) would be. For now, Webberville could be the destination. But, further down the line, maybe even Bastrop.

Very few cities around the country and the world have effectively made use of riverfront property to create long-distance river-side epic rides/hikes. Austin could be one of them. But, if the appropriate land acquisitions and easements aren't secured now, it'll be impossible later.

Additionally, Bolm District Park's vision plan was completed after a lot of community input, and we want to see the whole park at the top of the City's bond funding priorities. Bolm will include bike park facilities along with other traditional park amenities like splash pads, picnic tables, pickle ball etc.

How reliably can I use the front bike rack on the #10 bus?

When I used the #1 for my daily commute, the bus regularly showed up with both bike rack spaces full and left me biking the whole way. It didn't take much longer, nor matter when I arrived at campus/work sweaty, so this wasn't a dealbreaker.

Now I work in a showerless office on the north end of Cameron Rd and live 4.5 away. A bus-only commute would mean either 2 transfers or walking 35 minutes each way, but there's a single bus option that would shave off enough sun+heat+hills to get me to work minimally drenched.

How often does the (north of downtown) #10 have full bike racks during rush hour?

Anything else I should know about that route? Any notable differences between the current CapMetro experience and the one I knew before 2008?

Heads up

Heads up when riding out west. I wiped out yesterday going into this turn at the corner of Enfield and Exposition. The gravel is pretty thick and I didn’t see it until it was too late.

TxDOT is proposing building a road over Southern Walnut Creek Trail

> There is a new plan to put an arterial road (highway) where a significant portion of the Southern Walnut Creek Trail is. This is an Austin City Council agenda item slated for quick action this Thursday, May 21st. The ACTION ALERT instructions are in the last paragraph below. > > A plan at Austin City Council this week includes a conceptual map with a major roadway to be placed on top of a significant portion of the Southern Walnut Creek Trail (SWCT). > > I saw the items for the agreement and annexation of the Dog's Head on the May 21st Austin City Council Agenda. Item #38 has some informative backup materials. > > https://www.austintexas.gov/council/2026/20260521-reg#038 > > Per the draft agreement, p. 22: > > https://services.austintexas.gov/edims/document.cfm... > > "Section 6.07 Conceptual Major Street Circulation Alignment. For the area within the Dog’s Head Property, Dog’s Head and the City agree to implement the street alignments and cross-sections depicted on Exhibit “D”. Dog’s Head acknowledges that certain street alignments may require regulatory authority from other jurisdictions," > > You can find Exhibit "D" on p. 19 of the exhibits document. > > https://services.austintexas.gov/edims/document.cfm... > > The map shows options for a new arterial roadway that significantly negatively impacts the Southern Walnut Creek Trail. It appears that the roadway would replace a significant portion of the SWCT. The black lines noted as "MoKan Rail ROW Parkway Extension Option" and "MoKan Rail ROW Option" are the ones that would directly impact the SWCT. From what I can gather, the "City Property Option" does not significantly impact the SWCT > > You can email Austin City Council Members to ask them to remove the "MoKan Rail ROW Option" and the "MoKan Rail ROW Parkway Extension Option" from Exhibit "D". This is Item #38 on the 5/21/26 agenda. > > https://www.austintexas.gov/email/all-council-members

How are these wheel spikes allowed??

These spikes are terrifying. The total width seems to take up the entire lane.

Unrealistic Expectations When Bike Shopping?

I’ve set aside a little over $1k for a bike to train and race on. I’m not a killer athlete and I’m not competing for gold. But I feel like I’m riding something a little dated. I don’t want anything crazy, just something a bit better than my early 90s Trek 2100.

I’m running the Austin Tri sprint this weekend and training for a full olympic sprint in Waco next month. I ride ~twice a week and my 14-speed feels limiting.

I thought $1k would be enough to get me a non-junk road bike but most shops in town have $3-10k price tags on anything with drop handlebars.

Am I missing something? Is taking a leap of faith on FB Marketplace my best option? Or, is spending $1k for a decent road bike just not an option?

Any pointers or advice would be awesome.

GoPro or insta360 I could borrow?

Heyo,

I'm getting my masters in instructional design and I have to make a video. I wanted to do the environmental, social, and economic pros and cons of urbanization as a voice over of myself running or biking around the city to look at specific examples of things. Does anyone have one I could borrow this weekend or know where I can get one?

Thanks!
