Down 30 lbs

I’ve been on contrave for a little while. I initially lost 10 lbs and then gained it back shortly after. I finally decided to get serious around Dec/Jan because the pills really do help with my food noise. I got on the scale this morning and boom…30 lbs gone. I have 20 lbs more to lose before I can say I hit my goal but I’m excited to have my blood work done and meet with my PCP at the end of the month so she can see my progress

Looking for experiences: How did you break your Contrave plateau?

Ive been on Contrave since March. I lost about 10 pounds initially, but since then my weight has stayed exactly the same, regardless of what I do. I am at the full dose.

I know there are already a lot of posts from people saying Contrave "isn't working." That's not really what I'm making a post for.

I'm hoping to hear from people who hit a plateau and then got things moving again. What worked for you?

Did you just wait it out and eventually start losing again? Did you take a break from Contrave and then restart? Did you reduce your dose for a while and then increase it again? Did you change anything else that seemed to make a difference?

I'm looking for real experiences rather than general advice. If you were in a similar situation and managed to break through the stall, I'd love hearing what worked (or didn't) for you - and I'm sure others would too!

Losing Hope

hey there! I started Contrave back in February and by middle of May I was down 10lbs. It seems like I’ve just stopped losing weight now. I started CrossFit 3 weeks ago and I know I will gain some weight due to muscle starting out but it’s like the scale is just not going down anymore. I kinda felt defeated today when it showed back up 5lbs when I actually feel skinnier than I did in May and my shirts are fitting better.
Any advice?

Discouraged and guilty

Been taking Mysimba for 2.5 mo, starting weight 87-88kg. Prescribed for binge eating that I've had for literally 15+ years. I also initially had hypothyroidism; I've been taking euthyrox 25 for half a year and feel better; before that my weight was climbing up out of nowhere a lot.

Went down to 85 in the first month, not as impressive as a lot of people here but doc said it was wonderful.

Then I started fumbling it. I was supposed to taper up over 4 weeks but started experiencing really bad headaches and nausea at half dose so I dragged that on, then at 2x morning and 1x evening it hit again. I'm not throwing up or anything but I often get motion sick literally doing stuff like swimming, and my head is often heavy. Not sure of connected but I've been in a bit of a funk the past 1.5 mo. Stopped counting calories and kinda lost hope. Worth noting that my bingeing really decreased still. Where I'd previously consume X3 TDEE in a binge, I now maybe emotionally eat a big meal like a normal person. I've kept up my activity level at at least 30 m of exercise 6 days a week, mostly gym, a bit of running. Loads of walking on top. I notice my face definitely looks way better and leaner and I think my waist is more defined, legs less jiggly, overall body quality seems better.

I now sit at 84-85 and feel like a complete failure. I realise it's because I wasn't counting and was probably mostly eating at maintenance, also because I became very picky on mysimba and kinda gave into my cravings because I felt safe doing so.

Sorry for the ramble...just, am I cooked? Does it mean I've lost it? Or can I still hope to see results if I put my shit together and go into consistent deficit again?

Doc said def keep going another 2-3 mo and see if I can go below 80, try to push through at the maximum dose (doing this now). I guess I could use a bit of success story/pep talk 🥲

Just picked up my “cowboy contrave”

aka poor man’s contrave. I was on wegovy for about 4 months then zepbound for about a year and a half but my body was not handling it well. I was ALWAYS nauseous and my blood pressure dropped so low I had to be put on midodrine… but I did lose weight, though I’m sure a lot was muscle.

my doctor wants me to start my new cowboy contrave, 1 150buproprion and 1 naltrexone. any tips or tricks as i start?

Is giving away Contrave a bad idea?

I tried Contrave and didn’t have much success. Pretty sure I have about 2 months of pills left. I’m in Calgary and would love to give them to someone with a prescription but no health plan. Seems like this would be hard to do, right? Normally I take unused meds to my pharmacy but they just dispose of them.

12 months 75 pounds

I love Contrave! This medicine was the tool I needed to finally lose the weight. I incorporated a lot of walking and some HIIT workouts as well. High Protein diet in a deficit and bam!

New to Contrave & Reddit 🤪

First time posting! I am 42F 5’7” 245lbs. This is my 3rd week on Naltrexone (half pill daily) & Wellbutrin (150mg daily) I have lost 100 pounds on my own 3 years ago, gained it all back through hard moments in my life. When I checked in with my nurse I was 245 starting, today I’m 241. I do feel appetite suppression. Until the evening. Then I want to snack. So I’m assuming it’s my low dosage wearing off? Those with experience does this go away as the dosage goes up? I have experience with Ozempic and it really wasn’t it for me. I stayed on it for more than a year and maybe lost 20 pounds. So I’m really hoping that contrave will help me along the way with my calorie deficit.

Thanks!! 😊

Contrave and a woman's cycle

Hey everyone

I am currently on Contrave, week 5. I was feeling suppressed hunger and less food noise, lost 3kg since starting. However, this week, I am struggling. My period is coming, and I am in my luteal phase. When I say I am fighting for my life? The cravings are insane.

What is everyone's experience with this? Do the hormones "override" the effect of Contrave.

Anyone else conquer other bad habits?

I've been on poor man's contrave for about 8.5 weeks now, and very recently titrated up to the full dose of naltrexone. I haven't seen a lot of effect on my weight yet, but I have noticed two other things:

  1. I'm not craving a sweet treat every night after dinner (win!)

  2. I don't scroll endlessly on social media anymore??

I've always had a bit of an issue with numbing out by scrolling endlessly, and it has been distressing in some instances. But lately, I've barely been consuming short form content, and using other social media sites (Tumblr, Pinterest, Reddit) only when there is an actual intention and purpose - and I'm not sucked in for hours at a time.

I know naltrexone is a treatment for many types of addictions/addictive behavior, but I guess I'm surprised that it had this unintentional effect. Anyone else notice this?

dr offered me contrave

hello everyone,

i am a 22 year old female, 5’5, and 153lbs. so im not too overweight. i am also vegan so i eat pretty healthy in general.

today, my dr offered me contrave. i do want to lose about 20-25 lbs because i have been feeling quite unhappy with and embarrassed by my body. i thought going vegan would help me lose some weight (not the reason i did it, but wanted to drop some weight as a “side effect”) and i havent budged an ounce.

i have a severe fear of throwing up, so that aspect of contrave scares me, but i do have a prescription for zofran (super strong anti-nausea) i literally refuse to throw up i would rather die, so if throwing up is certain like it is with glp-1’s, i wont do it.

is it worth it or should i just try to lose the weight myself? im pretty gluttonous even though i eat healthy foods. i snack like every 2 hours and always need a sweet treat at night.

Not as effective after 3 months

Has anyone just all of a sudden got their appetite back and started eating and snacking and drinking alcohol again after three months of being on Contrave? I’ve had great success so far … Lost 28 pounds but now I’m just so hungry and my desire for wine came back. I’m afraid to gain weight back and I still have 15 pounds to go!

Period & contrave/Mysimba

Hi all. I’ve noticed I’m late for my period and I am usually very regular. I was wondering if this pill has affected anyone’s menstrual cycle ? Could it be a possibility?? Any thoughts or could this just be a coincidence?

Got the pill, but no plan!

Hi everyone, I am a 28yr old female whos 170lbs at 5’1. I started contrave about a month ago and I start my 2 pill, 2x a day dose this week. I dont see any progress yet but im sure its because i was never taught how to eat well. I started packing lunches and trying to meal prep but it doesn’t seem to be working. So many people say so many different things about what to focus on. Calories, macros, vegan vs meat, etc. The pill helps me resist junk and fast food but otherwise I still think about food all of the time and kind of just wing it every day.

Does anyone have a meal plan that has worked for them? I know every body is different but maybe it will give me a baseline?

Contrave newbie- any tips?

Hi guys! Starting my contrave journey right after the 4th. I was on zepbound for a year, lost 65 pounds, and the side effects of Zep on the highest dose were horrendous. I have give or take around another 25 pounds left to lose, so hoping this will do it with less horrible side effects. Also excited to see if this does anything for my mental health as well- I do have horrible food noise, stress eat, eat when I’m not hungry etc.

Any tips or tricks to make this a relatively smooth process?

Thanks!

Help with side effects

I started taking the "poor man's Contrave"—well, I only made it one day. I was already taking Wellbutrin, so I was hoping I'd avoid some of the side effects.

My doctor didn't mention taking it with food, so I took my first dose of naltrexone the same way I take my Wellbutrin: first thing in the morning on an empty stomach. That turned out to be a mistake. A wave of nausea hit me so hard that I had to leave work for the day. On top of that, it made me incredibly sleepy, and I ended up spending hours in bed sleeping.

I hate to give up on it so quickly because I was really hoping it would help. I'm considering trying it at bedtime to see if that makes a difference.

For those who have taken it, do you have any suggestions or tips? Do you take it with dinner or food? If you take it at bedtime, does the sleepiness eventually go away?

Fatter Than You Think!

I’ve lost 45lbs. Amazing! Unfortunately, I thought I had max 30lbs to lose. Nope. I’m now realizing I might need to lose up to 60lbs (give or take with muscle gain) to achieve the healthy body I was thinking I had under just a few pounds of fat.

Sigh. I know I look different, but I can’t help but feel like after all that work I still look… Meh?
