So much shedding

I switched to using a detangling spray every morning when I brush and a wide tooth comb after advice from a kind friend who is helping me learn what I should’ve been taught as a kid about how to look after curly hair. However I was washing my hair last night and my hair was shedding like crazy, it still is today. Am I doing something wrong? Should I be using a normal brush and then the comb? She just told me I shouldn’t be brushing it dry but if I don’t brush in a morning then my hair looks like a rats nest and it wouldn’t do for work

Not liking the shape while growing out my hair.

It's been almost a year since I started growing out my hair. While at the beginning I was liking how it was coming out, lately I've been thinking about cutting it since I'm not liking how it's shaping up. Maybe I shouldn't cut it completely and only a little bit since I want to still grow my hair. What do you think.

Routine:

- Shampoo: Aussie Bouncy Curls once a week

- Conditioner: Aussie Hydrating Conditioner every time I wash my hair, so 2-3 times a week.

- Leave in: Cantu Leave in Conditioning Cream every time I wash my hair.

- Mousse: Lotta Body Coconut and Shea Oils, after adding my leave in, I apply this mousse and ran my fingers through my hair with it until it's distributed correctly.

Boots curl creme too heavy for my low porosity, coarse hair. Lighter alternative?

Makes me sad because my hair looks amazing with it, just so heavy and weighed down.

I need a styling/moisturising product with no proteins or glycerin etc please... that i can seal with a gel

Routine is Pantene clarifying shampoo, then detangle with Garnier Banana Hair Food. Then I run Boots Curl Creme through it with my hands, then squeeze in Umberto Gianni Curl Jelly in before air/diffuse drying on high heat. I pineapple my hair and use satin pillow cases at night

New to curly hair routine and need advice!

Hi everyone! I have 2c/3a high porosity coarse, highlighted wavy/curly hair and am looking for some product recommendations. I've noticed my curls are defined on day 1 and day 2 but by day 3 my hair is very dry and my curls kind of clump together. I'm looking to up my hair moisture and make my curls last longer, so I don't have to wash as frequently.

My current routine:

-Umberto Gianni frizz fix shampoo and conditioner

-Detangle curls in shower with wide-tooth comb

-Apply products in shower; curlsmith style me softly balm, UG wavy hair mousse, Quai leave-in conditioner

-Section and diffuse dry, scrunch lightly with microfibre towel, and sleep in silk bonnet with hair down (tried pineapple-ing and didn't work for me!)

Any and all advice is much appreciated, as well as product recommendations!

Merwave Review on Type 2 (B?) Hair

Hi curlies! I noticed there aren't a lot of reviews for the brand Merwave and wanted to share my good experience using their mousse and gel! I am sensitive to intense fragrances (and really dislike coconut scented products) and the apple scent of their line is really light and fresh! I appreciate that it doesn't linger much. I got both from Boots.

My routine: (edited to add wash products)
- Davines Love Curl shampoo and conditioner (Ouai clarifying shampoo weekly for hard water)
- Davines Love Curl cream
- Merwave mousse
- Merwave gel
- Diffuse
- Scrunch with no oil

And I'm really happy with the look! This pic is today after I slept on it with no bonnet or anything.

It's my first time using a gel as I was under the impression it was best for type 3 hair and curlier, and wow!

Type 2 Hair Help!!

Hi! Wavy hair newbie here. I wanted to post my results!
First two pics are with gel cast, last three are after I broke it :)

Been told on a different reddit I have 2c hair? So anyone with knowledge of this hair type would be a lifesaver!!! What products worked for you, what techniques etc

Sleeping completely RUINS what I do, I already have a satin bonnet but it just comes off during sleeping :( My hairs also has a really soft finish so that probably doesn’t help matters

I feel I lose major definition when I break the gel cast. Is this normal? Or is it hinting at a different hair issue I need to address like protein or something?

Hair info:
Soft, Fine, Easily weighed down strands
Won’t keep a curl from a curling wand or straightener

Routine on this specific day:
(In shower)
Head and Shoulders Classic Clean
LUSH Fairly Traded Honey
Elizavecca Ceramide Protein Treatment
Dove Intensive Repair Conditioner

(Post shower)
Curlsmith Air Dry Cream
Bounce Curl Brush (Amazon dupe)
UG Curl Whip Mousse
UG Curl Jelly

Pixie diffused with Shark Flexstyle on low air low heat.

getting my hair back

My hair as a child was 2C. My mother didn't know how to take care of it so she'd kind of roughly brush it and wash it in the same way she did with her straight her and my sisters hair. I ended up straightening it a lot and I've also dyed it a lot. A while ago I tried to get my curly hair back but it ended up just looking greasy. How do I get it back?

A rare good hair day in this British weather, just wanted to share ✨

My routine today:

Washed with Cantu Shea Butter Shampoo.

Conditioned with Garnier Hair Food (Banana), detangled with a wide-tooth comb, and rinsed out completely.

Applied Boots Curl Creme on soaking wet hair using praying hands.

Scrunched in some Umberto Giannini Curl Jelly for hold.

Micro-plopped with a cotton t-shirt and diffused on low heat until 80% dry, then let the rest air dry.

Made a site that builds you a hair care routine based on a quiz

Hey everyone! I made a little hair care site that helps people who have no idea where to start. You take a quick quiz and it gives you a personalized routine plus product recommendations based on your answers.

I used a bit of AI to help build it, and the goal is just to make starting your hair journey less confusing since there are so many products out there. I'd love any feedback if you want to check it out :) the link is https://krxexe.github.io/Site/

I need help

So i have naturally curly hair I straightened it chemically between the 6th and 7th grade until i reached 8th grade then i stopped the treatments and grew it out but still used heat on the grow-out because i can’t go to school with half curly half straight hair and now in 10th grade it grew out enough, i chopped off the straightened hair and embraced the curls

Now its been months, my hair is healthy its growing new roots and i take good care of it but the curl patterns that is growing out of my scalp is so much tighter than the curls i current have (the pics are not mine and are just for reference) like really tighter and its obvious, the tighter curls are my natural undamaged curls and the looser waves are my damaged curls, i know they’re looser because of heat and damage but the difference is very obvious like painfully obvious and i was wondering if there was something i could do about it to make it all one curl patterns or lessen the difference until the tighter curls can grown long enough for the looser curls to be cut

My products are: dicora jojoba oil and morninga seed shampoo, perfect look hair mask and curl cream

I have an oily scalp so i don’t wear bonnets because they trap oil and make my hair oily faster and i use normal pillow that i wash twice weekly

I shampoo twice or thrice then i use a hair mask and wash it out then i use a curl cream and let my hair air dry

Wavy/ curly hair help!

Hi everyone,
I’m looking for some help with my hair routine because I feel like I’ve hit a wall.
I think my hair sits somewhere between 2B and 3A depending on the day. It’s very thick, quite dry, and it doesn’t seem to hold its shape very well. It also tends to grow out rather than down, so as it gets longer it just gets bigger instead of weighing itself down. I want to be able to go about my day without constantly worrying that it’s going to expand the second I step outside, especially in humidity.
My current routine is:
Leave-in conditioner on soaking wet hair.
The Doux Texture Foam.
Curlsmith In-Shower Style Fixer.
Air dry or diffuse depending on the day.
The problem is my hair either ends up feeling too stiff from the gel or still dry, and I never seem to get that balance of definition, softness, hydration, and hold. It also loses its shape fairly quickly.
What I’m looking for is:
Better curl/wave definition.
Frizz and humidity control.
Hair that stays hydrated and shiny instead of looking dry.
A routine that gives hold without feeling crunchy or overly stiff.
Products that work well for thick, dry 2B/3A hair.
I’m also wondering if my haircut or length is part of the problem. Has anyone with similar hair found that a different cut helped stop it from expanding so much?
I’d really appreciate any routine recommendations, holy grail products, or tips from people with similar hair. Thanks!

Rec: Mielle Pomegranate Mousse for thick wavy hair!

I bought Mielle Pomegranate Mousse without realising that it said “For Type 4 hair” on it. My hair is I think 2c (maybe 2b) so I was worried it would be too heavy, but I tried it and it is THE BEST MOUSSE I HAVE TRIED.

I have thick hair (both in terms of the thickness of the individual strand of hair itself and in hair density) so this may be why it works for me. It’s not super thick, but it’s definitely thicker than average. It might be too heavy for fine-medium hair but if you have thick or even thick-medium hair and you’re struggling with frizz, hydration and definition, I’d 100% recommend Mielle Pomegranate Mousse.

I just thought I’d make a post abt it because some people might look at the label and think it’s only for Type 4, but it can definitely work for other wavy/curly types as long as your hair is thick!

I’ve been struggling with frizz for aaaages - I used to use mousse + gel - but this might be my holy grail and I don’t have to use gel anymore. I still have plenty of volume (I hate hair that looks weighed down) It’s also a good price - it’s £13 but usually on sale for £7 at Boots.

I think i have curly hair but I'm scared to transition 😬

Hi all, im not really sure where this post is going to go and what advice/info I'm looking for, but for context in the first picture this is how I always style my hair for as long as I've been exposed to straighteners. After blowdrying, my hair is very dry and poofy, so I've always straightened to smooth it out and style.

In the second picture, im probably 3/4 days into a camping trip with no access to hair dryers or straighteners, my hair is still quite dry and frizzy but I feel like there is some form of curl pattern hidden in there.

The third photo I thought to hell with it, lets give a curly routine a try, if I can remember correctly, I washed and conditioned my as usual and then either plopped and moussed or moussed and plopped and then diffused my hair with a sieve as I didn't want to buy a diffuser if it wasn't going to work.

I guess my question is, would you guys agree I have curly hair and does it suit me? I'm 35 now, and I hate my current style of straightening as it never stays sleek, it's always dry and frizzy but it's all I've known so I'm kind of scared to ditch my comfort blanket hair style.

I found some curl products in tkmaxx, so I think I'm going to give it a whirl again while I have a couple of days off. Any advice and tips would be greatly appreciated

Hair gel or finishing product for humid weather - no/low glycerin 3c/4a

Thought I'd found my products and routine until BAM heatwave..

My hair is so floofy and soft and strong and very long, but I need a gel that isn't going to absorb the airs moisture!

Currently finishing my wash day with aveeno conditioner, eco gel castor oil. Trying a bit of curlsmith gel over the top tonight we will see how that turns out...

Hair was so gorgeous in winter and spring 😆

Need a new shampoo and treatment for dry/curly hair and shedding

Hi everyone,
I have very dry, curly hair with a lot of split ends, and recently I’ve been experiencing more hair shedding than usual. I’ve been using SheaMoisture Manuka Honey, but I think I need to switch to a different shampoo and treatment.
I’m looking for recommendations for products that work well for dry, curly hair, help with moisture, and are gentle on the scalp and hair.
What shampoos and treatments have worked best for you?
Thanks!

Hi just a curly hair student looking for research

I’m doing market research for my company which focuses on curly hair struggles and teaching how to do your hair without misinformation and without selling a product. Im currently coding an app for our community and would like to know your honest opinions are on this idea and if you would find a need for it.

Also would integrating AI in this app be something you are willing to pay for? If so how much.
I want to know if this would be useful for you all and what you would be looking for in this app if anything. All ideas are welcome. Thank you so much! Just trying to help out our community.
