The keyboard for my son opinions

Hi everyone.

My 8 y.o. son is interested in learning playing piano for the first time.

We don't have much extra space at home, so naturally I am thinking of a compact synth keyboard. Also it should have okay connectivity and tablet apps for learning - my kid's very much into it. Also cheap since I am not sure it will really stick with him.

After a bit of googling and gemini-ing around I have set an eye on these two models:

- Yamaha PSR-e383

- Casio CT-S300

What do you think?

Comments and suggestions are welcome, thanks.

Is it ok to store my Yamaha P-45B sideways for a few weeks?

I'm taking care of a cat this week and need to move away some furniture to make space for him (live in a small apartment). Is it ok to keep my keyboard at 90 degrees (on one side) for a few weeks?

Any tips to help me with my situation

Hi, I've been playing the piano for two years but I don't see any improvements, if there are it's just remembering chords, or getting used to the layout of the piano, I haven't finished learning a full song on the piano yet, because I get really bored even if its one of my favourite songs. Any idea or tips to help me get out of this situation?

What Piano/key board should I get as a beginner?

Hey you guys just wondering what piano/keyboard is good for a beginner. I have some music knowledge but nothing crazy. I know the ideal number of keys is 88 (i think). But, I was just wondering. Probably gonna use it to write some tunes, and I guess also no crazy price too. Lmk :)

Returning Player - Casio PX870 vs Kawai CN 201?

Hi Everyone - I was bribed into piano lessons as a child with ice cream and am just now in my early 30s returning to the craft as a returning beginner. My main goals right now are just to practice with headphones and learn to read music, not producing or using studio equipment or anything. I luckily have a great piano store nearby and was able to try out a couple of models. I initially went in looking for the Casio PX7000 (the yellow is so cool!) but ended up liking the experience of the Casio PX870 better. I also like Kawai in general because of aesthetics and also because they are only focused on pianos as a company (I tested the CX102 and liked it, but the model I actually want is more than twice the price of the Casio). This store has a trade-up program, so I could theoretically get the Casio to get comfortable again and then exchange it for the Kawai later on once I’m ready for an upgrade. I have two main questions:

  1. Since the Casio costs less and I enjoy playing it, should I get that first and then upgrade to the Kawai later? Or should I just bite the bullet and get the piano I really want later in the year?

  2. If you play mostly with headphones, what kinds do you like?

Help deciding based on price

Today I visited Rimmer's Music in Edinburgh and loved the feel of the following:

Roland LX5 - £1895 in black

Yamaha CLP845 - £1948

Roland HP702 (tiny mark on it) - £1341

Kawaii CA501 - £1948

All felt good to play, just looking for the best sound system overall and something that will last me through my beginner stages (upgrading from a cheap 200 Glarry).

Thanks!

Bought a used Roland FP-30 - Right speaker not working

Hi everyone,

I bought a used Roland FP-30 today and noticed the right built-in speaker doesn’t seem to work.

Here’s what I’ve noticed :
Headphones sound perfectly balanced.

The left built-in speaker works normally.

The right speaker produces little to no sound, even with the built-in metronome.

High notes, low notes, and the metronome all come almost entirely from the left speaker.

The left speaker has a very faint hiss when you put your ear right next to it, but the right speaker is completely silent.

The seller suggested it might just be a loose internal cable from transport, but I haven’t opened the piano.

Does this sound more like a loose speaker connector, a blown speaker, or an amplifier issue?
Has anyone had this happen on an FP-30? Any advice before I take it to be diagnosed?

Merci

Looking to replace my Yamaha YPG-635.. suggestions?

I've been using my Yamaha ypg-635 for around 10 years and fee like it's time for an upgrade. The keys, especially in the middle registers, are starting to rattle a bit and I can hear them through my headphones. There's a ton that I like about it.. but I haven't used most of the features tbh.

Would like to have:
- Good sounding piano voice. Multiple piano voices would be awesome.
- Excellent key action
- Easily configurable metronome
- Stereo output would be nice

Don't need:
- Tons of voices.. I just use the piano
- Arranging, layering, accompaniment features

Nice to have:
- Built in legs for stability.

Budget: up to $1.5k

Any suggestions?

Which digital piano should I buy: GEWA PP-3 or Yamaha P225? . Qual piano digital devo comprar: GEWA PP-3 ou Yamaha P225?

I'm in doubt, the GEWA PP-3 has better configurations, such as 20W and 20W of audio against 7W and 7W of the Yamaha p225. The keys look better for those who put their finger in the middle, because it is longer and has not shortened the pivot. But the gewa plastic is said to be of lower quality and less firm, which can make the sound inside it vibrate. I'm not a professional but I don't want crap, and unfortunately the best digital pianos are almost always built into furniture and I need a mobile to take my classes. I researched up to 500 euros as the maximum value (of course if it goes beyond that, there would be no problem, but the options of 600, 700 euros did not convince me and I still think Yamaha P225 and GEWA PP3 are the best options, but I am open and I kindly ask someone who understands to help me buy). I want to keep the piano for at least 5 years, so I don't want to buy a bad model. I'm looking for an intermediary. I really liked the sound of the Steinway D274 and the 1GB promise not to compress the sound, not leaving the sound plastic and that looks like a ringtone like the cheaper Yamaha ones like the p225 has. But I fear for the quality of the plastic and the cheapest and weakest power supply of GEWA PP3, they recommended a source - Beyerdynamic DT 900 Pro X, which has 48 ohms - better. But the carcass has no way to change, that's my concern. Anyway, I need your help.

Am I dumb for thinking I could place monitors on my desk and also use them to practice piano?

It sounds fairly fine to my ear. The monitors are primarily for desktop synth stuff but I’m using the CP88 as a piano to practice regularly on.

Obviously not ideal having the monitors face the back of my head, but again, I can’t hear a significant difference A/B testing the direction I’m facing. Obviously ideally I’d have a separate set of speakers for the piano, but I bought these in the hope that I could do all at once.

I’m not sure whether to say ‘good enough’ and stop trying to optimise this when I’ll never get there without buying another set of speakers, which would require more space in a different room, or if I’m missing something obvious.

Would appreciate any thoughts. Thanks.

Buying a Roland FP-30X tomorrow. Any last-minute advice?

I'm finally about to purchase a Roland FP-30X after doing a lot of research, and before I pull the trigger I wanted to ask the community if there's anything I should know.

  1. What should I inspect before leaving the store to make sure the unit isn't faulty? Besides playing all 88 keys, are there any known issues or tests I should perform (key action, speakers, Bluetooth, pedals, dead keys, uneven velocity, rattling, etc.)?

  2. I'm torn between the Black and White versions. For those who've owned one for a while, which color has aged better? Does one show dust, fingerprints, or scratches more than the other? Any regrets with your choice?

  3. Also, are there any accessories you'd consider essential from day one? I'm already getting a double-X stand and plan to upgrade the sustain pedal later if needed.

  4. Finally, if you own an FP-30X, is there anything you wish you had known before buying it?

Thanks in advance!

Keyboard for beginner?

My 5 year old started piano lessons and I’m on the search for a keyboard. Her teacher says weighted keys are important but not necessarily the 88 keys. It could be 61.

I’m stuck because I don’t even know if she’ll like this but if she does, I would prefer she has something decent for a while. I know nothing about pianos to know what I’m getting! I’ve looked a little online. On FB marketplace the best options seem to get me stuck between getting a $175 Casio Privia PX-100 or a Yamaha P-45 digital piano. Thoughts on these options?

What do you wish you knew before buying your first digital piano?

I’m researching my first digital piano and trying not to focus only on price or specs.
For people who already bought one, what do you wish you had paid more attention to?
Key feel? Speakers? Headphones? Weight? Return policy? Space?

Higher end DP with light action

Hi!
I’m looking to buy a higher end digital piano (am considering up to $4K).

I looked at the Guitar Store today but they only had lower end models. I tried the few Roland’s they had and found the keys too heavy. I have extremely small hands (think 12 year old girl) and played my entire life on an acoustic with light keys. I took a break for a decade and am now getting back into it. Also planning to teach the kids.

Of the ones they had in the store I liked the Yamaha CP88 the most in terms of feel. But I’m looking more for a piece of furniture than a stage piano. Don’t need many bells and whistles.

I was thinking of trying a Clavinova but I can’t find one in stores and people complain about some of them being heavy.

Can anybody recommend one that’s similar to the CP88 but is not portable? Or any other DP that has light action?

And where do I find these to try?
