Possible dud?

*Sound on for video* My husband purchased the Roland FRP Nuvola digital piano from Costco online (sale) over the weekend and set it up last night. Nice that everything came pre-assembled but very unfortunate to find that the keyboard is a dud. As you can see/hear in the posted video, I tested various buttons to try the keys but no sound. But when I pressed the button for preset tunes, it plays. So the speakers are working. Seems like there is a contact issue with the keys. Did anyone have a problem like this or were you able to power on and play like normal? He ordered another one to see if the keyboard works so I can swap it. Pretty disappointed in having this problem.

need low budget piano option $500-600

So here's my situation, I recently started piano lessons, something I've wanted to do all my life but never got to (I'm 48 now). My piano instructor is fairly inexpensive ($40 for a 30-min lesson weekly), but he requires that I have my own piano, which makes sense because I need to practice. For a while, I was able to get by using the pianos at the local community college, but they have locked the piano rooms for the whole summer. So, I need to get my own now or I can't keep taking lessons.

I'm looking for a low-budget piano option. I am a bit poor and I can afford 500-600 (maaaaaybe 700, but that's putting ability to pay rent at risk). I have seen a lot of reviews on Youtube about the Donner OURA s100 being a great piano at low cost (currently $399 on Amazon), but I've also seen a lot of talk on here about how terrible Donner pianos are. I know that the good brands are Yahama, Roland, Kawai, Korg, but they're all very expensive and basically it's simply not possible for me to afford one.

Looking for suggestions.

Yamaha Clarinova CLP-250

Hi there! I'm not overly familiar with the reasonable cost of digital pianos! I'm looking to purchase one off Facebook, and they're asking $500 for a 2010 Clarinova CLP-250. Based on some preliminary research, it seems this number is potentially high but I'm unsure if that's for older models. Does anybody know what a reasonable asking price is for this piano?

Thank you!

Stage-ready Piano look-alike under $2500

Hey y'all, I'm a professional pianist who plays with a Jewish temple for the high holidays. They've been using an old Clavinova since the early 2000's, which had the damper pedal die out recently. Because of this, I told them they need to invest in a new instrument and they've asked for recommendations around $2500.

What's making it hard for me is they really want it to look like a real piano, which means most keyboards (and the possibility of bringing my Nord) are off the table. They were interested in the Williams Symphony II but I feel those keyboards sound and feel extremely poor.

Any ideas that fit the range, have a good action, and look like a full piano?

Music Rest Handmade

(Previous Post) I ended up asking to a carpenter for making a handmade music rest for my Yamaha P-120. I considered buying but I couldn't find to buy here in Brazil and buying it from abroad is very expensive. Just showing here the result

Which keyboard is best for me?

Hello. I’ve been playing for several years, I’d call myself an intermediate. I started on piano, but I have moved to keyboard. I mostly play with my husband who is a guitarist, and a few other guitarists and singers. We like to jam, write songs, and have fun, mostly pop and rock. I’m planning on starting to do a few open mics. I’ve been using the Yamaha 310 72 key keyboard, but I’m outgrowing it and I want something with fully weighted keys. I’ve started looking at other keyboards, but I can’t find one that quite fits everything I’m looking for. I was hoping to get a keyboard with 88 fully weighted keys, but lightweight and portable enough to bring to open mics. One thing I like about my current keyboard is how easy it is to transpose on the touchscreen when the guitarist want to capo up or down. But there doesn’t seem to be a 88 key keyboard with fully weighted keys, with a touchscreen, that’s lightweight and portable, at least not for under $2000 which around my limit. I’ve looked at the Yamaha 670, which is quite heavy, the Roland P 50, Yamaha 225, and others. If I got the 670 I think I would only use it for home play and I would have to have something else for an open mic, though. What would you recommend for my needs? Also, do you think that my Yamaha 310 would be appropriate for casual open mics or should I have something better for that? Thanks so much for your help. This is a whole new world to me.

Casio PX-S7000 a good buy today?

I have been playing piano here and there for the last couple of years but mostly on a midi controller and now want to buy something with weighted keys that can also be used standalone.

What's important

  • Size - don't have a lot of space the depth of the Casio is appealing.
  • Sounds - Near me I was able to try a Nord Piano 6 and loved the felt piano, but the cost and appearance (shared living space) by the time a stand, speakers etc. were added means the Nord is probably not happening, how are the Casio stock sounds?
  • Speakers / Headphones - Probably going to be playing 70% through headphones and 30% speakers, so they matter but not the biggest factor.

I am also looking at Yamaha and Roland options BUT the size and appearance of the Casio would help a lot with the space I have, just hoping it doesn't trade off too much in other areas. Nowhere anywhere near I can get to try it unfortunately!

Any current owners got opinions? How's the price etc. looking by 2026 standards?

Roland FP-30x vs RD-08

Hi,
I'm thinking about which model is best for playing live at church. Although the RD-08 is more appropriate for live performances, I believe the sounds library offered by the FP-30x (with the Roland Piano App) are sufficient for my use. My question is whether using the Roland Piano App might let me down when playing. Just worried about connectivity, changes in the app, user interface at live performances

Recommendations 300-400 Euro

Hey, this is my first post on this subreddit! I was looking for a digital piano / epiano I could use as a secondary instrument to practise at night etc. I usually play classical on a yamaha upright piano and I would say the most important thing for me is the action, since I want to focus on technique. I was thinking about a budget of around 300-400 Euro including used instruments.

From what I have tested so far, I really like how some of the Kawai models feel.

Any help and recommendations are welcome and appreciated :)

Casio AP-S190 vs Roland FRP-NUVOLA EX (Costco Canada) - returning pianist after 10+ years, need advice

Hi everyone,

I’m trying to decide between two digital pianos from Costco Canada and would really appreciate input from people who have experience with either model.

Links for reference:
($850 CAD) Roland FRP-NUVOLA EX: https://www.costco.ca/p/-/roland-frp-nuvola-ex-digital-piano-with-bench-and-headphones/4000379711

($1200 CAD) Casio AP-S190: https://www.costco.ca/p/-/casio-ap-s190-digital-piano-with-bench/4000375962

Context
I’m an advanced player (around RCM Level 10+), I quit piano for over 10 years and am now getting back into it over the past year. I mainly play classical and some pop. I’ve tried both briefly in-store at different times.

My impressions
Casio AP-S190
Sound is honestly very good and full from the speakers
Key feel is lighter and easy to play
Repetition feels “okay” but not amazing
Overall enjoyable and very immediate sound-wise

Roland FRP-NUVOLA EX (only tried for a minute in store)
Key feel felt a bit heavier / more solid
Speakers felt less full compared to Casio
I initially thought it felt a bit heavy, but I haven’t played acoustic piano in 10+ years, so I’m wondering if that heavier feel is actually better long-term for technique.

Main questions
Which one is more realistic for advanced classical technique?
How is key repetition on both long-term (trills, fast repeated notes, repeated chords)?
How is pedal realism?
Does Roland’s slightly heavier feel actually translate to better long-term technique development?
In real practice, does Casio’s better speaker sound matter more than Roland’s action?

My main concern
I don’t want to outgrow the instrument, lose control at soft dynamics, or choose something that feels nice but limits classical progress later.

Would really appreciate any insight, especially from people who have played both or are familiar with any model. Or if there’s a better model on Costco for around the same price point (not looking to spend significantly more than the Casio model). Thanks!

Thinking about getting a portable digital piano — would love some advice

I’m using a Terence P37 at home as my practice keyboard — it’s been a decent beginner setup for me so far.

Most of my practice is still at home in the evenings with headphones, but lately I’ve been thinking it would be nice to have something I could take out to places like a park or lakeside. I like the idea of playing outdoors in a more relaxed, open space.

My budget is under $1,000 — that’s about what I can realistically work with right now. My main focus is portability and a realistic piano tone.

Ideally something that feels and sounds as close to an acoustic piano as possible, even in a portable form.

I’ve been looking at Yamaha, Roland, Kawai, and Terence, but there are so many models it’s a bit overwhelming trying to figure out what actually makes sense.

If anyone has recommendations in this price range — especially something genuinely portable — I’d really appreciate it. Thanks in advance for any help.

Piano Purchase Help

Hopefully I am in the right place. My 8 year old son has been taking lessons using a Yamaha keyboard and his teacher has recommended we step up to an 88 key piano/keyboard. He recently let us know of someone moving and looking to rehome their electric keyboard/piano. I am hoping someone with more knowledge than me can help as I can’t find much online about the enclosed. If you know what this is beyond an SE88 it would be greatly appreciated. The person hasn’t said what they are asking just told us to make an offer, which I do not know where to begin. Thanks in advance for any help.

FP-30x or ES120 for returning player?

I’m returning to piano after nearly 10 years. I played roughly 10 years from kindergarten til high school and now I have some time and want to get back to it.

I want to learn to play some pop songs, soundtracks from my favorite movies (John Williams, Hans Zimmer, etc) and more chill relaxing songs (Surfaces specifically). I also want to practice music theory again, but that has less to do with this choice I think.

From my research I know the Roland has the heavier action and a very good sound, but some people find it too heavy for faster songs. I’d prefer it for the price over the Kawai so I can buy a nice stand and triple pedal for it to look nice in my apartment, but will still spend the money for the Kawai if it will suit my needs more.

Sadly, I don’t have a store near me to try out the keyboards.

Thank you!

Is the Yamaha P515 really better than the newer P525?

I've been considering upgrading my ancient Alesis QS8 to something better, and have been looking at the Yamaha P525. I haven't yet had to chance to try one, but I have read several comments from people who think that the P525 is worse than the older P515 that it replaces. One YouTube reviewer ("Angelo (Professional Musician)") had two lengthy videos describing the P525 very positively, only to retract their opinion later saying they couldn't get on with the action (and maybe some other issues).

My understanding is that the P515 action is fairly heavy and the P525 (with GrandTouch-S action) is on the lighter side, similar to the Kawai ES920's RHIII action.

I suppose the differing opinions *could* just come down to a preference for a heavy or light action, but there is some implication that the P525 has other defects.

Would anyone care to add an informed opinion? Thank you!

Digital piano with best "felt" sound - 2026

I'm looking for a digital piano with that warm "indie movie" piano sound. No VST, just plug and play kind of piano.

Under 1500€.

I know about the Kawai es520, Yamaha p151, but the samples I've heard doesn't convince me enough.

Any thoughts?

Roland FP60x €700 used

Hi,

I’m buying my first digital piano and I’ve had my eyes on the Kawai es120 or Roland fp30x, both cost around €600, however I visited a store and they had a used Roland fp60x on sale for €700 with casing, sheet holder and a pedal. It seemed like it was kept pretty well, they said the previous owner gave it to them because they upgraded with another piano.
It also has a 6 months warranty.

Is it worth/risky buying it or should I stick to the other options?

If you have any other recommendations please let me know

Portable Piano, delivery let it fall on the floor!

https://preview.redd.it/k7p9max9zv0h1.jpg?width=3024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=cbeb839b9f30cf83a291801bca03dd1a8be33ee5

I ordered a portable piano, which got delivered by UPS today, I live in a flat on 3rd floor with a lift so the delivery driver rang my intercome (downstairs) I press the key to let him enter the building, he brings it to my flat , he let the package leaning on the (door) of my flat, then he left immediately, as I come to open the door the whole 16KG standing package of the Korg D1 drops on my entrance corridor, and bang! that’s how I received my D1 ! Also between the door and the corridor there is a 3 inch ramp which hit the packaging but it didn’t show any clear dent in the packaging, it was originally a discounted board already (a customer returned item) and the packaging looked rough from presumably previous deliveries and returns. If the delivery driver just let it lean against the wall instead of the door which he should have thought I will open any moment, non of that would have happend.

Honstly I wouldn’t make a fuss about this if it was a light 2KG 49 keys synth action controler, but this is a 16 KG weighted hammer action keybed piano, a fall like that could easily damage the internal mechanism even though the RH3 key action is quite robust, but still.

I feel utterly gutted by the handling of UPS delivery, it all happened in a split of a second, I couldn’t have catched the package from the fall, I wasn’t expecting such an unprofessional way of leaving a fragil item leaning on the door.

Anyone, here with experience of buying new weighted keyboards and similar delivery damage, what would you advise me to do ? should I accept the package and open it, with the possible risk, or just return it to the music store without even opening or inspecting any possible damage?

Update: Thanks everyone for your replies, I really appreciate your opinions, I’ve sent a message to the retailer explaining what happened, given the fact that this board was already returned by previous customer, and the price is not far from new (unopend) piano, the decision is made to return it. Lesson learned, next time I would rather drive 50 miles to another music store and pick it up myself, paying slightly more but without any worries.

Abe Maria:Do i play the polyrythms quite ok ?

Been struggling with the 2 vs 3 poly for a long time , as well with legato appregios.

Think I have over complicated the different beats in the lh and rh.

I know, I am aiming bit early in the beginning, but hope I understood the polyrythms or I will go to hell :)

Built a tool that turns song links into playable piano sheet music — would love feedback

I’ve been learning piano for a while, and one thing that always frustrated me was how difficult it could be to find good sheet music for certain songs — especially modern ones.

A lot of the time, the arrangements were either oversimplified, expensive, or just didn’t exist at all.

So I ended up building Sonata, a small app that converts song/audio links into playable piano sheet music automatically. The goal was to make it faster to turn songs people already enjoy listening to into something they can actually sit down and play.

Still improving the transcription and arrangement quality, but I’d love feedback from piano players or anyone interested in music tech.

If anyone’s interested or has suggestions, feel free to comment or message me.
