The next Personality needs to be an old white Boomer.

I don’t say this gleefully but if Ramsey wants to continue his business he needs an older personality. His entire business is driving leads into his ELP and Smartvestor, and who has the most money to invest and buy real estate (old white boomers aka people like my parents). My parents listened to Dave for years but can’t stand any of the new, young personalities. Again, I’m not saying this as something I want, but it clearly is needed for their business. John’s audience is people with mental health issues (no money), Jade/George/Rachel is all Gen Z and millennials also with almost no money.

What is an Evangelical Christian?

For full disclosure, I am a Muslim living in the UK and am banned from the main subreddit.

I’ve heard Dave get called an Evangelical Christian. Previously, I thought that these were a cult that labelled themselves as Christians but existed simply to promote right-wing propaganda. However, I noticed a local church on the council estate where I grew up had a sign saying that they are an evangelical church.

Can someone explain what this group is? Are they legitimate Christians or is it a cult? Do you think Dave is a genuine believer?

I’m curious. Dave and his personality have so many other flaws that I don’t want to take a “cheap dig” at their religious convictions.

Refinancing

Rampantly inconsistent in regard to refinancing. They have ads for YRefy, and they support refinancing to step down in vehicle or to pay off negative equity depending on the situation. They support mortgage refinancing. But Friday’s show they tell a caller to forget refinancing when he could cut his payment way down and his interest rate in half. Of course he should. It would help him pay it off - it’s a no brainer. Instead they just go on and on about how if it has the word “finance” don’t do it. Instead they say “sell it and scrounge up $5,000 and buy a beater.” Zero percent this guy can/will do that. The car wasn’t luxurious and otherwise fits within parameters, so cutting interest would be very helpful. In fact in YRefy ads they says “refinance high interest private student loan debt.” Hhhmmmm…. Wonder why it’s okay in that case…?

Show The Cards

I find the constant critiques in this group extremely interesting. Is anyone willing to post your real name and links to your successes and accomplishments? Very, very curious who we're dealing with in here... the folks who seem to know A LOT about how things work - a lot more than an extremely successful company. Post 'em up, cowboys - let's see who's doing what!

This scumbag.

This scumbag is taking OUR MONEY for his stupid fucking business, but is supporting the idea of cutting someone's kids out of the will because they've become socialists. And then he literally admits that the trust he set up for his kids is "FAITH BASED", aka he is forcing his children to be Christians, or he won't leave money for them.

The issue? HE IS A SOCIALIST, and lying. Hypocrisy is the issue. He is taking OUR money for his business. People like him operate on two principles, "socialism for me and not for thee", and "socialize the debt, privatize the profits."

He is a hypocrite and most importantly, a HERETIC. He is going to burn in hell for eternity for his wickedness and sin worship. I am so fucking tired of these two demonic freaks of nature smugly and arrogantly masquerading as Christians, and then being two of the most hypocritical people on the planet.

If you're so against socialism Dave, GIVE US ALLLLLLL OUR MONEY BACK that you've stolen for years in grants, tax avoidance, and untaxed earnings. Fucking prick.

Ramsey Event Center was a $250M mistake

Dave has said he spent hundreds of millions of dollars to build the event center, and he paid for it 100% sworn cash. Since starting construction the s&p 500 has doubled meaning he lost the ability to double hundreds of millions, plus the event center is never used. If he had to sell it no one would even want the space.

My favorite was people saying Dave can’t say the funds without giving financial advice 😃 and that’s why he doesn’t.

Dave Ramsey Idiocy

I really enjoy listening to the podcast because it keeps me financially aware in a way not listening wouldn’t, but wow does Dave Ramsey say shit that seems batshit crazy and sometimes pretty dangerous.

  1. The whole “credit cards are evil and cash is king and you can just use a debit card.” I. Can. NOT with this shit. In 1000% believe Dave IS right that we spend more when we pay by card. However, the Ramsey hosts act like it is because credit cards are bad, not because having the cash in our hands means we really feel how we we are spending money, rather than with a card. But the hosts do t seem stupid, so do they really think using a debit card has the same psychological effects as cash? The whole point is that it is a card - we don’t actually feel the money is gone in the way we do when we lay out cash. The only benefit of debit over credit is that it is much harder to spend money we don’t have with a debit card. But also, given the insistence on having a budget, which I agree with, why the hell not just pay by credit card when you already know how much you can spend?

2.. I do not get his hatred of credit cards and points. He talks as though people only pay by credit card when they can’t afford the item, and they only accrue points by not paying the balance in full and accruing interest. Oh, I also heard “if you can only afford to go on vacation with points, then you can’t afford a vacation.” Well, no, that is the whole point, these points give you the opportunity to do things you couldn’t otherwise, though I do think paying cash is wisest, Debit has the same effect on spending as credit cards.

3.What is with the repeated “whats in your wallet” hatred of Capetal One cards and how much money Samuel L. Jackson makes from his his ads, but meanwhile, how much money is he making from his special debit cards?

  1. I think the way he talks about loans and school is dangerous. Where you went to school often DOES matter and I don’t know what planet he is on when he says no one cares where your doctor or lawyer went to school.”,Plenty of people DO are, but even if they didn’t, internships absolutely care and so do first jobs. Now, I think he has a point in that sometimes it doesn’t pay off to go to a more expensive n school, but that is vastly different from “ no one cares.” And it greatly disturbs me when he discourages people from going to med school. What the fuck?

  2. I hate the way he talks about not helping parents because that is biblicall. If you don’t want to help your parents, fine, but I have read the Bible numerous times, and when they are talking family, they don’t just mean nuclear, and I don’t think Dave Ramsey is stupid enough to think that. Furthermore, it greatly disturbs me when he actively discourages people from helping family when they can afford to.

  3. These are interconnected, but I am really disturbed how Dave and the team tell people to sacrifice eeee erything to pay off debt asap, and they are basically irresponsible if thry want to do it another way. Like, taking 2 years instead of 1 year to pay off debt is not the end of the world. Which connects to the dismissal of parents worrying about spending time with their kids while paying off the debt. Like, what the fuck, that time is NEVER coming back, and taking a bit longer to pay off debt because you want time with your kids is a GOOD THING.

  4. I also hate the way they are always telling adults to move out of the family home, as it makes them stronger people. If the home is not damaging, why the hell not stay? Parents don’t live forever, and I do t know anyone who really regrets more time with family, unless the family is truly awful.

  5. And fI ally, his messaging about credit scores is so dangerous. He HAS rentals. He has to know no reputable landlord would rent to someone with no credit scores, even, especially, if they can pay a year in cash.

LGBTQ caller

Don’t know if you guys wait to hear/watch it on YouTube but the first caller for Friday’s episode is a gay man with a fiancé! Just thought it was funny John mentioned a future wife at one point then George said “she” and the caller corrected him and said it’s a he. Just wanted to point that out. I woulda expected them to cut it lol

How does this work?

I do actually like some of the concepts on the show, but there are several things that confuse me and seem like their own advice backfires.

  1. How do phones work in the US? In Canada, I pay for my phone monthly (phone purchased in cash) but it is still considered revolving credit and shows up on a credit report. Do they assume everyone is using prepaid cards? Are phones not revolving credit in the US?

  2. Today they were talking about manual underwriting which I didn't know much about. When they went through the criteria, they mentioned that you have to have the same employment for at least 2 years. Yet it seems like almost every call their first advice is go get a better paying job. Maybe they assume the benefits of a better paying job outweigh the wait for a mortgage. It just seems a little contradictory.

I just had to pay for a $9,500 plumbing emergency causing a major leak that insurance wouldn't pay for.

It was technically "outside of home" so insurance wouldn't pay for it, but it was causing a nonstop water leak and had to be fixed immediately, and basically requires redoing nearly all plumbing. Could Dave explain how I was supposed to pay for this if I only kept a $1,000 safety net and refused to use credit, if I were in Baby Step 2? This is why its absurd to tell any home owner to only keep a $1,000 safety net and never use credit for emergencies, regardless of if they are in debt or not. Emergencies don't agree to back down until you are on Baby Step 3.

First call with Jade and Rachel is infuriating

Today’s first call with a 70 year old woman that is running out of funds in her IRA upset me. The woman’s advisor told her she needed to reduce her distributions (makes sense as she was taking $2k/month out of a $173ish nest egg) and move more of her funds to a stock based investment.

She reduced her monthly distribution to $1500 and that plus $1700 social security barely pays her bills (son pays mortgage). She has serious health problems (new O2 tank every hour) and much of her money goes towards that.

Anyway, Jade proceeds to confuse a bunch of facts and then tells her to get a job! Working from home in customer service. What? Yes the woman can talk on the phone but at huge cost to her oxygen intake!

After that, since all will be well once the poor woman is working _Rachel advises her not to touch her IRA for 5-7 years so it can double. She doesn’t mention RMDs or the fact that this woman is depending on that money for her medical bills.

The woman then asks about redistributing some of her investments to stocks. Jade acts like she doesn’t known what the woman is talking about?!

Anyway, I enjoy listening to the show for the most part but I felt this poor woman was getting dangerous advice.
I hope she ignores it and works closely with her advisor and son as to what her best options are in the future.

ETA: I also feel their advice to change her investments ton80/20 stocks to bonds was horribly reckless considering the woman’s advisor advised 60/40.

Delony - Unresolved anxiety about money

Delony reveals again and again that he has what seems like pretty significant unresolved anxiety about money and banking. Of course, all Ramsey personalities can't use credit cards because it is too much "mental gynmastics" to pay it off monthly. Delony also recently talked about how he is using cash only because he feels he can't control his spending with this debit card. Now, on the August 13 episode with Rachel, he shares he can't keep his emergency fund in a high-yield savings account because he will have to look at the balance daily, and it is too complicated and disturbs his peace.

The caller on August 13 asks if she should move her emergency fund into a high-yield savings account so she can earn some interest. The caller is scared. Before knowing anything about her money or choices, Delony launches into "Dude, you're awesome. Teresa. I want to say I first applaud you for not not many people in their in their 60s want to change the way they've been doing stuff and so that's awesome. Yeah, that's amazing."   He assures her they will help reduce her anxiety. "So, well, you called the right place. We're going to we're going to help you get unscared. Is that cool?" "We're going to make it real simple for you. Yep."

As the call goes on, John reveals HIS anxiety about his emergency fund. (Sorry, he uses poor grammar and rambles, so it can be annoying to read the transcript - clip below)

"But as for that (emergency) account, I know if it had an interest rate attached to it that I knew and watched, and it's 2.9, I would spend waking hours going, well, is it in the and I have to remind that's not the point of that money. The point of that money is that every day of my life, we're having a good time. So, in in my house, I have my checking account in a bank, and we opened another account under that same heading, under me and my wife's heading, and it's there, and I I can't I can't use my debit card out of it. I've got to stop, open my laptop, and move it from...
For my 3 to six months, dude, I just can't get my head in that stuff. It gets too complicated for me. I don't want to mess with it. I just want that safety."

Fewer debt free screams?

I feel like there are fewer and fewer debt free screams on the show than there used to be. A few years ago there was 1 bare min each show, if not 2. Now whole shows go by with none. Is this symptomatic of a crumbling Dave empire ? (also what happened to the millionaire theme hour?)

Capital Gains - wrong!!!

Rachel and John. Caller says “husband doesn’t want to pay off house because we just hit 500k in equity.” Rachel and John just go with it. ARE YOU KIDDING ME??????? Capital gains on a home sale is based on basis and sale - your mortgage doesn’t matter. There is no way their 750k house had a 500k gain so there’s no way they exceed the married exclusion of 500k. How are these people on the air for a financial show. I heard Rachel kind of pondering the whole capital gains thing at the start but her mind sputtered out on it. John had no clue.

In my career, I study and learn to stay current. How do these people not know such a basic thing? That would have handled the call immediately! “Hey lady, tell him you won’t owe capital gains based on your mortgage - or at all.”

Disparaging comments

I've listened since about 2019. However, I've made up my mind this week that I am no longer listening. Not only do I agree with some of the viewpoints on here regarding credentials of the personalities, but I don't agree with Dave often disparaging career fields. Think of when he says like, "At least your job isn't like those people who have no brains and work at the DMV."

I don't work at the DMV, but I'm in an adjacent space.

I find it so disrespectful, as these people are out making a living, doing honest work, just like most everyone else.

This show needs a dress code, delony looks ridiculous

Watching today's show and jade is looking 🔥🔥🔥 as always. However delony is wearing a black Montana knife co shirt and looks like an asshole who's about to go out and do yard work on the weekend. I feel Dave should make the hosts dress similar and more professional because a) I can't keep my eyes off of jade and b) so they don't look horribly unprofessional like doc today.
