I've seen descriptions and basic instructions, but can someone please eli5 or point me to a good video on notching the trunk to encourage branching further down? I've been entirely unsuccessful so far. Thank you.
Bought this house and previous homeowners planted these so they're fairly old and tall (25+ years maybe and about 20ft tall)
Located in Socal, San fernando valley and yea it's been quite the heatwave so wondering if this is typical in the summer or if there's something that needs to be done to prevent more leaves from falling so frequently or if watering needs to be done
The pictures are 4 days apart from when I last swept the leaves.
I chopped him on August 6th, as he was leaning quite bad.
Second photo is before the chop - I don’t have close ups of the leaves but you can tell from that photo that a lot of this was not there before. Last photo is farther distance today where you can see the spots compared to before chop
Is this fertilizer burn? Pests? Is he just over me f’n with him at this point?
He didn’t have root rot when I repotted after chopping (no roots lost) and I waited to fertilize until the second watering (recently)
Is there anything I can do to help? Are these leaves just this way now? I am already so sad about how bad he was leaning from my neglect and how much I had to chop off, and I was planning on trying to notch him to help more branches and now I’m unsure where to go / what to do.
Any help / advice is appreciated!
Hi, i got a few cuttings from a Ficus Tree which i want to grow into an indoor Tree. In the end i would like to have one big stem with a crown (see last photo).
The cuttings were several weeks in water to grow roots and i planted it about a week ago in hydro substance.
When do i need to start to trim it in a way, that only one stem will remain?
As you can see, it made two shoots. How to decide which one to cut?
Soil with rooting hormone or water propagation? Any advice or tips this is my first ficus. Thanks in advanced
Like the title says… is it salvageable?
For the ones here going through it with their FLF. Be persistent, provide stability, be patient and hope for the best.
1st 7/1/26 I thought I was Gods favorite.. the girl was doing amazing 💁♀️
2nd 7/15/26 Tantrum began a few weeks post repot and post feed. I thought shed be a skinny queen the way she dropped over a dozen leaves basically over night.
3rd 8/15/26 Now a month after the tantrum began, things are finally looking up. Don’t give up on your FLF, they’re really just dramatic AF! 🤦♀️
Side note: Don’t be fooled by her good side, her canopy is blasting with leaves but there is definitely a noticeable amount of stem now visible. She dropped A LOT of leaves, and some are still yellow which I imagine will be drooped once shes done talking back nutrients.
4th 8/15/26 Her not so good side, because we like to keep it real. 😏
Got this Banyan “Audrey” Ficus a month or so ago. I know very little about ficus, is this new growth with a small leaf a new branch? Or is it flowering?
What is this part at the top of the trunk? A leaf?
Any assistance or advice on how to care for her is appreciated!
It spends the time span of May-September outside and moves inside for the cold season (I live in Central Europe)
I'm going to try and grow more aerial roots.
Hi guys I need some help my ficus tineke is starting to drop its bottom leaves almost every day I find a new one. I haven’t watered it in almost two weeks because when I put the moisture meter into the plant it says moist going into dry. I have it in soil, perlite, orchid bark and coco coir mix. My main question is regarding the leaves that are dropping and also the discoloration or marks. It did have fungus gnats when I bought it so I treated that with mosquito bits and sticky traps. I’ve also sprayed it down with neem oil solution that has peppermint Castile soap and alcohol (very diluted solution) Does it need more light? I put it outside for a little and the leaves drooped downwards. I need some help yall. Pls be nice it’s my first ficus.
I’ve been putting off topping this plant, but now a node has started protruding. Will this develop into a branch?
Hi everybody,
We've got a nice plant with several ficus benghalensis together. Got it like 3-4 years ago.
2 of them did straight away but the 2 others are actually growing and seem fine.
Now we went on holidays in June and the Ficus got hit by the heat and lost lots of leaves, especially in the middle of the plant.
It's now left with only leaves at the end of the branches 😬
It seems to have fully recovered and keeps growing but it's shape is now a bit weird...
What shall I do there ? Shall I cut close to the main stem and wait for new branches to grow ?
Or just cut the branches with leaves and try to multiply and restart with some new plants ?
Is there a way to help this ficus to grow some new leaves in between the main stem and the end of the branches ??
Any advice would be welcome 😊
Thanks !
Good weather today so I brought her out to the balcony. I think she needed the fresh air and sunlight after all the stress. Fingers crossed she bounces back.
Hi guys. First time rubber tree owner here. The lower stem is turning hard and woody and she’s lost a lot of her bottom leaves. Shall I prune the top and if so where?
Cut the top of my fiddle leaf fig and got this light (temporarily?) to help support the new growth. Did I stake to help straighten ok? Would this light work for awhile or should I get something bigger/better?
Hi!
How does the roots look to you guys?
I'm not sure what I'm doing wrong with this plant but she is getting smaller and smaller leaves. I use fertilizer, she in in a south facing window and she isn't leggy, she is also right next to a humidifier, so maybe the roots too growded?
I could also be doing something wrong with the water scedual but I'm trying to get better at it.
