Absolution - Switchfoot- New Album release today

If you’ve ever listened to Switchfoot you know they have always written songs wrestling with being human, what we see happening around us, and the hypocrisy of the church and religion.

The song Absolution off their new album mentions “losing your halo” and the shame experienced in the first verses. The bridge repeats “can’t find the way” and I believe before the religion was named Christianity the disciples called it “the way”.

Other verses mention it feeling like a “daydream,” like something we hope is real but when we wake up we see it isn’t. Or “phantom limb” like this part of you that isn’t really there anymore.

They’ve traveled the world with their music and I’m sure they’ve seen some difficult things in regards to suffering. They make themselves pretty available to meet fans so I know they also hear very hard stories from fans.

For me the intense suffering of humans and animals was the catalyst of my deconstruction. I now consider the connection between all living things to be god.

Anyway, I hope you go listen to the whole album because as a lifelong fan, this is one of their best albums ever.

Would you play a ToG or ACOTAR or CC video game?

I can totally picture these games. Damn I think someone in the industry is missing out on a great opportunity. How fun would it be to play as Aelin or the sisters or Bryce?!

any books similar to stardust (2007)?

She’s a fallen star, he was born in a hidden land, they journey together and meet up with pirates to fight witches and an evil prince. It was such a fun movie I’d love to read something similar

EDIT: photo is of the poster for the movie stardust. The female main character, a fallen star, stands pictured with the male main character while he holds a sword. On the left side of the poster are two of the pirates the main characters befriend. On the right side are the two antagonists, an evil prince and an evil witch.

We are trying to get voters out in November. Believe it or not, the window to make the biggest impact is closing. The closer we get to election day, the less influence we have on turnout because voters experience election fatigue. Can you help us reach voters? You can help us place flyers in front doors of "friendly" voters - OR - write post cards to voters! The effort is directed towards voters who vote in presidential elections and skip mid-terms. The voters are registered as Independent or Democrat AND Catalist data scores indicate they are progressive voters. No experience required - anyone new will be paired with an experienced person. Event will be held at Durty Bull, 126 S. Trenton St., Gastonia. Anyone placing flyers will drive a short distance to a nearby neighborhood.

Saturday June 13
We will be hosting a Voter Information table in Ranlo from 2pm - 8pm and are looking for individuals that can staff the table during this time period (for whatever time period you may be available). Training will be provided.

Gaston County to Celebrate America's 250th Birthday with Countywide Parade in Dallas

DALLAS, N.C. – After more than a year of events across the county, the Gaston County 250 Committee is partnering with the Town of Dallas, the location of Gaston County’s original county seat, to host a parade and a day filled to the brim with activities, food, and fun to celebrate America’s 250th birthday.

The parade will take place in downtown Dallas on Saturday, July 4th, with the parade kicking off at 2 p.m. The parade will feature entries invited by the Gaston 250 committee, including one from each county municipality, as well as from Gaston County Schools, multiple community groups and nonprofits, and some surprises as well.

Before the parade starts, from 12-2 p.m., the Gaston County Museum of Art & History will start the entertainment of the day. They will have a large foam party, free Tony’s Ice Cream for refreshments (while supplies last), an apple pie bakeoff, and more activities for children and their families alike.

The apple pie bakeoff will have three divisions: ages 10-14; ages 15-18 and adult. There will be prizes for all age groups, and the top overall winner will receive a $200 Webb Custom Kitchen gift card. More information about the pie bakeoff and the other museum activities is available online at Gaston County Museum

Food trucks will also be present throughout the day to provide much needed refreshments to this day of festivities.

“We are so excited to welcome all of Gaston County to Dallas to celebrate this special occasion,” said Dallas Mayor Hayley Beaty. “This is a great chance for families and residents to show their pride in our county and our country and enjoy this event together.”

Then, at 2 p.m., the 1.5-mile parade will get underway, letting the entire county gather to celebrate America’s 250th birthday. At 6 p.m. the live concert will begin, performed by the Next Level Band at Cloninger Park for families to enjoy before the fireworks finally kick off at 9 p.m. bringing a close to the day of festivities.
