One UI 8.5 on (base) S23

One UI 8.5 update was just available for S23 in Southeast Asia today (i believe it's yesterday for South Korea and EU?). anyone has updated their device? how did it hold up especially for the battery? i've had S23 base since 2024, but after updating to One UI 7 around May 2025 i've been experiencing awfully significant drop in battery that even updating to One UI 8 hasn't solved the issue since. Is One UI 8.5 any better? Thanks.

Are there any Aux to USB (with DAC) converters that work without randomly losing sound?

Hey all, I recently inherited my father's old S23 and am having issues getting Aux adapters to work. It's my first phone with no headphone jack and I have multiple devices I'd like to connect the phone to with a standard aux plug but I keep randomly losing the sound with them. I'm convinced it's an issue with the phone's software/hardware after all I've tried. Ideally I'd like to just leave an adapter plugged into each aux cable so I don't need to keep track of 1 single adapter. I'd also like to not have to change/upgrade my devices to be wireless or have native USB-C connectors as that would be a great expense even though at this point I've spent about $150 on adapters and only have 1 that works (well 2 technically).

The devices I'd like adapters for are

-Headphones I use for gym/when out and about

-My home stereo setup

-A portable stereo I use around my house/in my shed

-2 classic cars I drive that I use aux to cassete adapters

+1 adapter with a power passthrough for listening to audio while charging my phone in my daily driver

The one for my daily driver (JSAUX brand) actually works perfectly, aside from some crackles but I can live with that. I suspect because the power passthrough "reminds" (for lack of a batter term) the phone it's connected so it doesn't lose the audio connection. I've used it for over 6 months and even driven 8 hours at a time in the car without losing audio once that I can recall.

All the other adapters though will randomly lose the sound at some point. It might be after 5 minutes, it might be after 45, but I don't think I've ever had one last longer than an hour before it's lost the sound. It doesn't matter if I'm listening to music, listening to a podcast or playing a video. Whether it's through the web browser (and I've tried multiple), through a seperate app or on files stored locally on the phone. Eventually they all fail, and they always keep playing the media without pausing it. So it appears to me that the phone is unaware it's lost the sound connection as it will pause any type of media if I say unplug the aux cable from the adapter or unplug the adapter itself.

It doesn't matter what I do with the phone. Whether I'm running/lifting at the gym, walking around with headphones in, driving in a car or the phone is resting. It doesn't matter if it's sitting completely stationary or I'm waving it around like a madman trying to get it to purposefully cut out (yes I've tried), the problem still occurs and always at random. I'm convinced it's not an issue with that I do with the phone, and short of opening the phone up and replacing the USB-C port I've tried every variable and nothing seems to directly cause it.

Initially I blamed this on a single faulty adapter (JSAUX brand), until I tried out all 5 adapters and they all behaved the same (all JSAUX brand) even though they advertised Galaxy phone compatibility. So I replaced them with 5 more adapters (ENVEL brand) that also advertised Galaxy compatibility. The issue still persisted.

After a few months of putting up with it I got sick of it and decided to try the official Samsung adapters (part number EE-UC10JUWEGUS). These are quite expensive ($35 each from Amazon's official US store, where I had no choice but to get them from as my brief research informed me there are a lot of fake Samsung adapters being sold online) so I decided I'd rather not waste the money to buy 5 just to have the same issue so I decided to buy 2.

The first one actually seems to work flawlessly, finally. So far I've only used it maybe 10 hours in total but it's not dropped the audio once. It works at the gym, while walking with headphones, in the cars etc. So thinking I found the solution I tried the other Samsung adapter in my home stereo, it's somehow even worse than the third party ones I've tried. It works for maybe 3 minutes tops before it loses audio, and does this consistantly. Both arrived on the same shipment from Amazon's US store, both were packaged the same in what looked to me like genuine packaging so I don't think I got a counterfeit. Maybe it's just my luck it's defective but I doubt it, I think my phone just doesn't like it as much as the others.

I'm at a loss for what to do as I'd rather not keep buying Samsung adapters at $35 a pop until I get 5 that happen to work. So do any of you know any that actually work without the sound dropping? Or better yet is there a way to fix this and get the 11 adapters I've already acquired to work, like some sort of setting I've missed or patch for this issue?

Thanks in advance

Too Genius

;) Im a smoll phone enthusiast . I've had 2-3 iphone 13 mini's and i had a samsung s23 6.1 inch i gaslit myself last december to sell it get a 13 mini 96% battery health. Now i decided to get a brand new one sold my eyefone 13 mini and the price diff was only 40$ because that 13 mini battery had gone down from 96 to 89% in a matter of 5months.

;D S23 IS SO GOOD. I basically got a brand new one ;) the 120hz the airplane mode + wifi with wifi calling is crazy the battery barely drains like 1-3% max overnight.

This thing is TOO GENIUS.

I also had a z flip 5 but was afraid it would snap ;). All in all the S23 is the best phone in my eyes. The colors are super vibrant , the battery is amazing , the 120hz solid the form factor is perfect yes the 5.4inch eyefone 13 mini is more compact but this 6.1 inch beats it in every aspect.

The quality of the screen is outstanding ;) why did i ever gaslit myself into going back to appol >:D stupid me.

I will cherish this s23 lil cutie <3

Anyone else frustrated with media quality on Samsung/Android apps like WhatsApp?

I’m using a Galaxy S23 and the camera quality is honestly amazing when I view the photos/videos in gallery. But the moment I upload them to WhatsApp the quality drops a lot.

Especially videos:

  • look blurry
  • lose details
  • colors don’t look as good
  • WhatsApp status quality becomes terrible

Even using WhatsApp HD mode doesn’t really help much. What confuses me is that iPhone uploads usually look much cleaner on the same apps. I’ve noticed this especially on WhatsApp statuses.

Any apps that help improve video quality before uploading?

Any settings/tips that actually help preserve quality on WhatsApp ?

Would appreciate any suggestions from fellow Samsung/Android users.

Thinking of switching to an iphone

Hey guys so ive been thinking of switching to an iphone as the base 17 is a good buy.

My main reason for switching is basically its smoother, faster i like the convince of face ID as my phone’s fingerprint doesn’t work all the time unless the conditions are ideal.

On top of that its safer as you cant install any third party apk file or whatever in the phone if you get it over whatsapp as my dad last week almost got scammed by a person impersonating to be from the IGL and urging him to download and install the “IGL” app apk which he sent to my dad on whatsapp claiming our LPG gas connection will be cut by the evening if he doesn’t do so. The only reason my dad didnt get scammed is because the app was asking for a ₹7 payment which my dad was trying to make but it wouldn’t accept UPI only credit/debit card so my dad called me for the same and i stopped him and deleted the app from his phone and reset the whole phone after that so this was pretty scary.

I too keep getting alot of texts calls and emails mainly texts on whatsapp which is a headache for me but having the security of this cant happen to my iphone would help me sleep better at night so to say.

So my question is where to buy the iphone 17 for the best deal i can trade in my s23 base 128gb.

Any suggestions are appreciated!

WhatsApp applies aggressive post-processing to photos

Just that, what the title says. I actually been noticing for a while now, like a long time ago. But way before did not notice that much. It's like, I take a picture on wpp, to send to friends or whatever, and I notice it gets instantly processed in a bad way, I don't know, it changes and adjust certain things automatically but imo for worst. And because it is whatsapp I don't have access to any camera settings, I have to take it as it is... anyone else noticed/fixed this??
Thanks!

PSA: The Spigen Thin Fit is trash

Not even a week after I got it and the rubberized coating on the back is starting to peel. I did some research prior to buying this but I guess I didn't look hard enough. I just saw two comments about this issue on a YouTube review of the case and that's it. Personally PMed members of this sub that had the case and they said all was well, they even ended up sending pics. Now that I checked Amazon reviews, it seems like a common issue.

I'm tempted to just strip the entire coating off, it looks hideous as is.

Bad battery life

My Galaxy S23 never had a really good battery life (which is disappointing for a flagship phone) but after One UI 7 update, it got even worse. Then, a few weeks ago my battery started to swell up (I noticed, because my back cover popped out) and it died in three hours, so I replaced it. Now as I'm using it, the battery isn't even good, never lasts me a full day and even when I'm not using it, it's draining. It always feels like something is going on in the background, because sometimes it gets hot on normal tasks. I always close all the apps and optimise it.

Any recommendations from personal experience about what I should do to make my battery life better? And should I upgrade to latest One UI?

S23 green line issue- need suggestions and review

I purchased my s23 in 2023 31st may, and last week it developed the green line, unfortunately last year my phone fell and the background panel cracked,

When I went to the service center they told that they need to change the back panel before they could replace the front panel, (is it mandatory?)

Also they told they will check for any visible water damage

As it was IP68 rated I used it freely in rain with i beleive slight water splashes have been in the phone ports ( I got moisture detected alarm quite a few times) I was also told that after the replacement the back panel won't be looking like this there won't be a good finishing So if anyone has got similar problem and they got it replaced please let me know..

So just wanted to know will that create a problem for the free replacement and is it mandatory to change the back panel ?

Samsung refuses to offer FOC screen replacement for green line issue in my Samsung S23

Recently I updated my Samsung S23 2 days layer a faint green line appeared which went but now it has become permanent. When I contacted support they told my they will replace the screen FOC provided I produce the original purchase invoice which is 3years prior. I bought the device 2 years before so I thought I was eligible, when I went to the service centre I was told that my phone is not eligible because it was not bought in india but in UAE. They said I can claim the FOC only in the country of purchase, which is impossible now as I am working in India and bought the phone when I used to live in UAE.

When I contacted support again regarding this the person gave conflicting statement saying only indian devices are eligible for repair and overseas devices are not. When I asked him about this he responded 5 minutes later when I was typing my reply he said I took too long to reply so he closed the chat, now I had to start the whole process again until I was connected to another human assistant who isn't much help as she said the FOC eligibility will be determined only after the service centre inspects the device which they refused to do so as the device. Now the person has started sending some steps for my non existent samsung washing machine( I know this is weird but that's exactly what happened).

Truly fed up with samsung their FOC screen replacement is only a PR exercise for the Indian market, if they truly cared about their customers they would have provided the same for all customers regardless of country.

Is it worthwhile to change battery in S23?

Hi guys. I'm not much into phones and honestly my S23 has been serving me just right. I didn't see any reason to change my phone and was very happy with battery life, but recently I noticed that my battery life has been draining like crazy. I've had it for 3 years now, charging at least once per day, so it's been around over 1k charging cycles, perhaps closer to 2k. My first thought was to change the battery, but I read here that recent software update is to be blamed.

So, is it worthwhile to change the battery? Or will the issue persist regardless of change as it's supposedly induced by software? What are your experiences?

S23 base – mic works in video but not in voice apps

My Galaxy S23 microphone seems partially broken or misrouted after a recent update.

- Video recording (camera) captures audio normally ✔️

- Voice Recorder shows no waveform / no input ❌

- Speech-to-text (Google, ChatGPT, Gemini) does not detect any voice ❌

- Microphone permissions and toggles are all enabled

- Restart did not fix it

I updated to One UI 8.0 yesterday. This issue started today.

Also, recently my fast charging cable stopped working and during that period the phone was getting veryy hot while charging.

It feels like the mic works only in camera video mode, but not in system voice input / recording apps.

Has anyone seen this? Is this a One UI bug or hardware issue?
