Thoughts on Layout Improvements

Thoughts on Layout Improvements

We’ve had a lot of feedback on P’s position. Moving U, Y, and P as shown above also looks good.

A 15-key layout also looks promising. For the Pro version upgrade, we should consider a three-step switching option: Standard 16-key, Wide 16-key, and 15-key layouts.

There are still many things to improve. Still, we swim... I look forward to your feedback.

The iPhone has stopped innovating.

Wasn't the iPhone originally about delivering as much functionality as possible in a small device? What really differentiates it from Android today?

Comparing 3-Row 26-Key and 2-Row 16-Key Keyboards

This keyboard will probably surprise you twice - and disappoint you once.

1. you'll be surprised by how quickly you adapt to it and how comfortable it feels to type on.

2. you'll be surprised by how rarely double taps are actually needed in everyday typing.

The disappointment? It's very simple. No predictive text, no auto-correction - just a local keyboard focused on typing.

The most important point is this.

Since the 16-key keyboard preserves the layout of the classic 26-key QWERTY keyboard, users can typically become comfortable with it within a day. Even occasional switching between the two keyboards feels natural and works well.

The 16-key keyboard offers clear advantages in terms of touch accuracy and thumb movement. However, approximately 10% of the letters in typical English sentences - F, G, P, Q, Z, X, V, B, J, and K - require a double tap for input.

To type faster than on a standard QWERTY keyboard, users need to learn the simultaneous key-input techniques available on the 16-key keyboard.

With the current 50% launch discount, you can try it out at a minimal cost and see whether it fits your typing style.

What if a keyboard like this were attached directly to the wrist?

https://preview.redd.it/uo2jwrtr9l3h1.jpg?width=1080&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=6f284583c027271367c6c596a6a5e86a4532055e

It feels naturally suited for one-handed touch typing, and the wrist actually provides almost the perfect amount of space for it.

QWERTY users would probably adapt to it very quickly, and with proper use of double taps, it could work surprisingly well even as a wrist-worn wearable keyboard - although I haven’t developed a wearable version yet.

Why is 2-row keyboard better on smartphone?

I analyzed why reduced-key 3-row keyboards such as the BlackBerry Pearl, Nokia E55, and Sony Ericsson M600 ultimately failed to achieve mainstream success. I look forward to hearing your thoughts.

Do you often use landscape mode on your smartphone keyboard?

It’s a keyboard optimized for landscape typing, featuring large keys and a left-right symmetrical layout. Landscape mode provides a stable grip and comfortable typing experience, while the standard layout is more comfortable for one-handed typing in portrait mode.

It uses double-tap input, and simultaneous key presses make it even more powerful. Since the layout is very similar to QWERTY, it’s easy to adapt to, so I recommend using it alongside your regular QWERTY keyboard.

The Pro version also supports extended multilingual characters. We look forward to your feedback and suggestions.

Experimental 2-row 16-key mobile keyboard layout for comfortable one- and two-handed typing

The overall layout still stays fairly close to QWERTY, so it feels quick to adapt to. Some letters use double-taps, but it doesn’t seem too inconvenient in practice.

Since it uses fewer and larger keys, thumb movement and touch accuracy feel more comfortable on smartphones.

What do you think of this kind of layout as a secondary keyboard alongside regular QWERTY?
