GeForceNow Ultimate - Dad/Adult/Husband Review

Just wanted to share my thoughts and experience on GeForce Now Ultimate. I've been loosely following it for years. The summer sale and some other recent reviews I had seen pushed me to give it a go. I'm close to the Oregon server farm so let that be what it's worth.

Background - I'm a full time father with 5 kiddos in the home, full time husband, and I have a career that also takes it's pound of flesh. I've been building PC's for decades (child of the 80s and built my first 386 with my dad) and have always been someone who enjoys the ancient arts. That being said my current build of a 5800x3d, 32gb DDR4 and Rtx 4080 was beginning to feel longer and longer in the tooth. I was also getting more and more fatigued of having to wait for updates, patches, and longer and longer install times. After evaluating the market to move to a 9800x3d build with a 5080 I just didn't see dropping the $3,000+ being worthwhile for what is a relatively incremental upgrade. That led me to look at GeFroce now especially with the most recent upgrade to the SuperPod/5080 systems under ultimate.

I don't do multiplayer, MMO, or competitive stuff like anymore (again, kids/family/work). My gaming is often for 1-2 hour sessions, sometimes less, sometimes more, and sporadic. What matter's more to me in any given moment is the ability to get in, play, and get out with minimal effort and this was where my traditional PC experience was beginning to get heavier and heavier. GeForce ultimate providing an almost "console like" experience is a major factor in my valuation. I have no concern about needing more than 100 hours in a month, I'm not super concerned that every game ever isn't necessarily available on the service. The majority of games I plan ARE on the service, and many that aren't I can still run locally either on my G14 5070ti laptop or my desktop described above. But when I can load up Pragmata, Doom Dark Ages, or Forza with darn near maxed out settings, 2x frame gen (to each their own, I find it more beneficial than detrimental) and get 120hz with G-sync cloud? It's basically as good as local, with higher fidelity than either of my machines can render locally, and without the heat or noise. I play most games with a controller (again the "console" like experience is what im chasing), and this puts PC gaming on a level with my PS5 Pro (again for quick, minimal effort gaming).

For $10ish a month I was able to get that upgrade from my 4 year old 5800x3d rig. It's not perfect, but it's way better than I expected. The latency with a controller at 120hz and G-sync cloud is imperceptible to me. The minor annoyances are far outweighed in my use cases by the positives. I no longer have to waste half my "game time" waiting for windows updates and reboots, I no longer have to stare at steam for 15 minutes for the patch to download, I no longer have to juggle 60-80gig installs because my 1TB ssd is filling up and a 2TB drive had quadrupled in price in the last year. Everyone's use case will be different and rely heavily on things like quality of internet connection but as someone who lives close to a data center with greater internet service, I was truly shocked.. This wasn't just "okay" or "good enough", it was for me a comparatively BETTER experience than local.

Is it my forever solution? No. But in this crazy moment where PC's have only gone up in cost and the incremental performance increases have diminished I am finding it to be a perfect stop-gap. It's not for everyone but if you are on an older machine and struggling to justify upgrading in today's market you might find it just good enough to get you through this storm.

I love GFN, I’ve had it for a little over a month. My bf and I use it to play co-op games. I’m looking for some games I can play by myself. I’ve played a bunch of them and I’m looking for more recommendations for something I can play by myself while he goes ham on Warhammer on his PC

I’ve played It Takes Two, Palia, Crime Scene Cleaner, Power Washing Simulator, The Witcher 3, Expedition 33, Unravel, Call Of The Sea, Call Of The Elder Gods, The Talos Principle, Dredge, just to name a few. I’m having trouble finding something else I’d be interested in. I’ve started replaying games and I’d like something new. Suggestions please!

Mini PC Vs Shield Pro?

Currently have a 1080p 40" 60Hz TV, I want the cheapest and best option for GeForce Now Ultimate, however I'm unsure as to which device would be best.

I've been looking at Mini PC's like the N95/N97/N100 which are roughly the same price as a Shield Pro.

Is there any noticeable visual improvements between a Mini PC and Shield Pro?

I know Mini PC's that support AV1 decoding have better image quality, although some users report no difference.

I plan on using keyboard and mouse as that's what I'm used to compared to using controller.

Should also mention that I'll have it connected via Ethernet although neither device will fully utilize my 2.5Gbps internet speed.

My kids proved I have a built in input lag

I usually play Overcooked with my kids on console, but lately I’ve been really hooked on GFN and excited about it. So I decided to try playing the Steam version through GFN with them.

I didn’t say anything to the kids. No warning, no let’s test this, nothing. We just started playing like usual.

From literally the first seconds, both of them were like: Wait, what’s going on? Why is it slow?

I was honestly baffled because I didn’t feel any lag at all. To me it seemed totally fine.

Then I switched back to the console version, and immediately they were both like "Aha, now it’s fine !"

So yeah, that was my discovery for the day, apparently I have some kind of internal input lag that makes me unable to notice the GFN latency. My kids, on the other hand, saw it instantly..

Warum User-Feedback wirklich funktioniert:

Why are there two different kind of controller icon and what do they mean?

I play THE FINALS from embark and bought Arc Raiders today.

I have added GeForce Now as non-steam game and then using Steam Input.

I am using this

https://preview.redd.it/1goo2hdv0mbh1.png?width=2550&format=png&auto=webp&s=7be11b0ed2abb46abd794d9a7b1a6c7d5a3c04fb

to emulate keyboard completely and negate any gamepad input, but when I tried a similar layout for ARC Raiders, there was still gamepad inputs. I have disabled analog trigger. I checked if Steam Input was enabled in the Steam that is launched inside GeForce Now and there it was disabled. But for THE FINALS it was enabled by default, and I have to disable it every time to get rid of any gamepad inputs.

Is there any way I can get rid of all gamepad inputs?

New joiners / Laptop + TV -> What's best

Hey guys !

I need your help regarding a future set-up for my stepfather.

He is currently ordering some new Sim racing gear to try from scratch and I told him, the best possible way to optimize the current installation would be :

- Steam + Game pass + Geforce Now

So he doesn't need to invest right now in either a console or a PC high end

I just want to be sure I'm covering everything correctly and I need your help and experience to do so :

- He's buying a new TV, guess 4K so it will probably be limited to 60hz/fps which is enough for him now

- He has a laptop, I don't know yet the specs of it, I will ask

And I thought, why not take the Ultimate Geforce Now for 1 month -> Plug the Laptop with HDMI to the TV and boom

But will it works flawlessly ?

Thanks a lot !

Banned from Rust after using GFN to play Ark/The Isle

(wasn't sure if this should be flagged bug or tech support, sorry if I chose wrong!)
TL;DR at the bottom

I'm trying to find out if anyone else has experienced this issue or similarly.

I own the above games on Steam and my steam account is linked to my GFN account. I had not used GFN for quite a while (maybe several months?) prior to May 3rd of this year. That day I logged into the free tier of GFN on browser to try playing Ark Ascended (my previous PC was a potato lol). After realizing that modded singleplayer would be a nightmare to set up each time I wanted to play on GFN (since your mod list/settings would be reset each time you log in), I logged off and went to bed.

Next day I woke up to a temporary game ban for the game Rust. I bought Rust in 2022 and have played about 26 hours total in the game; have not touched it in years. It was a temporary ban (3 days) so I thought nothing of it at the time. Throughout this, I did not receive any notifications from Steam regarding my account security, whether it be strange login attempts or whatever. I have 2FA enabled as well; nobody should be able to access my account without having access to my separate device which is required for approving new logins.

I logged into GFN again on May 15th (free tier, browser version) to try playing The Isle with better settings than I normally could, realized I couldn't even play the Evrima branch of the game and logged off. Later that day or the next day (can't remember) I received a permanent game ban from Rust on my Steam account.

Both bans are listed as automatic bans triggered by Easy Anti-Cheat with no further explanations. Once again, I received no attempted login notifications etc. This time I also checked my 'currently logged in devices' and I saw in my 'device history' that I have a login session from May 15th for some IP located in Russia. It also says they do not have access to re-login without needing to verify first.

All of this leads me to believe it was a problem the stemmed from the use of GFN. I don't know how it happened, and I'm not well-versed in cloud technology to understand what (if anything) may have gone wrong. All I know is my 11+ year old Steam account with no prior bans of any kind is suddenly sitting with a game ban that Facepunch will not accept an appeal for, and the EAC ban appeal process has since disallowed me to continue appealing it.

I have been trying to discuss this with Nvidia to see if they can investigate the issue and find out if it was something on their end, but I'm also coming to this sub to see if anyone else has ever experienced something like this before? I know that there have been past issues with falsely flagged EAC when users played games with GFN, but so far I have only found cases where the players actually were using GFN to play the same game they were banned from. Mine differs in that I did not play Rust at all, using GFN or otherwise. I didn't even have it installed.

Aside from being frustrating since my account is otherwise in good standing, this game ban has also led to me being unable to play on a specific server of my other games where I have regularly played for over a year due to their security choices, which limits players from joining if they have recent (<1 year ish) game/VAC bans.

TL;DR-

-used GFN free tier, browser version to play Ark and The Isle
-subsequently received game bans for Rust after using the service, despite not playing Rust
-have had no security issues with Steam Account throughout the entire ordeal
-trying to find out if this has happened for anyone else

Thinking about selling my gaming pc to go full cloud gaming

I have had a 10GB 3080 pc for a few years now but I recently bought a Mac Mini M4 for some personal software dev.

I tried out GeForce Now for a few days and man, it's actually really seamless. I've been thinking of just selling my gaming rig and using cloud exclusively, I figure the price of my rig would cover a few years of GeForce Now with much better hardware behind the stream.

Have any of you guys done the same? Have you missed your physical gaming rig after making the jump to cloud streaming?

I get it now

I have a semi-decent gaming laptop with a 5060 GPU. However, in addition to not being able to run the most demanding games, it will always get pretty hot and noisy no matter what game I play.

My laptop didn't even make a sound while I played Avatar, Ultra Settings, and DLSS Quality after loading Geforce now, Ultimate Tier.

I think that's crazy, but what really surprised me was how natural the game felt. The controls were responsive and fluid, and I felt as though I was playing the game locally on my gaming laptop while it remained quiet and cool. There was also no lag or heaviness, which are things I am very susceptible to.

I now understand cloud gaming, as the topic implies, and I'm all for it. Whatever Nvidia has done or is doing, they seem to have found the formula.

Steam Deck OLED and Geforce Now

Hi, everybody. I was looking to see if anyone has the same problem I've been experiencing with trying to run the native Geforce Now app on my OLED.

It will start out fine, but after a little while (maybe 5-10 minutes) the stream will start stuttering and eventually degrade to being unplayable. If I then exit out of the app through the Steam menu and re-enter it before the game quits, the degradation will be gone. It's nothing absurdly problematic, at least if I stick to single player games. It's just a really annoying thing to have to go through every time.

Thanks in advance for any info people have on this.

Are FPS games such as Fortnite viable?

I've been playing Fortnite (save the world) on the free tier with my Xbox controller connected to my 55" Samsung TV in game mode. It works pretty well but can be quite laggy at times. It actually works surprisingly well hooked up to an iPad. I've not attempted Fortnite Battle Royal as the free version doesn't remember setting and there's a few to configure each time, but that's what I'd be looking to play.

I don't game much these days, I have a 27" MSI gaming monitor connected to my Xbox Series X. I'm thinking of selling the Xbox.

In terms of hardware, I only have an old work laptop (i7 32gb Thinkpad with a crappy GPU), would the ultimate tier be viable for a smooth experience using the laptop as a launcher (not sure that's the right term)?

I'm also looking at a Mac Mini and a Mac Neo so would be interested in feedback of those that have experience with either.
