Hiking in golden

Hi! I’m staying in golden for a red rocks show on Thursday and I am looking for a nice hike to do while I’m here!

I was wondering if there are some good trails with nice views that can take me to the top of either of the mountains shown?

Ps this place is gorgeous so far and Bonfire Burritos has great food and music

Black bear sighting at W 8th Ave & Beach St

Hi Golden,
Reporting a sighting of what appeared to be a decently sized black bear heading East on W 8th Ave about 45 minutes ago. Could be in the Welchester Park area by now. No pictures were taken because phone not around. Not familiar with protocol here or if other agencies need to be notified, also not sure how often bears frequent the area.

Jeffco Round 2 Choice Enrollment waitlist movement?

My twins are going into second grade and are waitlisted at positions 2 & 3 at Ralston Elementary. I have no prior experience with JeffCo open choice enrollment, and was curious if I am being naively optimistic that they could get in? It seems like a really good fit for them, and I hope it could work out.

Any Verizon or Visible users noticing improved service?

In the past week or two our cell service on Lookout Mountain went from almost nothing to usable data. Curious if others are seeing improvement and if anyone knows what changed.

Living amongst Mines students?

howdy folks ~ I'm (30s woman) considering a move to Golden from Boulder.

When I originally toured Boulder, I was warned to avoid certain parts of the city because of the louder college parties & frats. Is the same true for Colorado School of Mines? I've heard the Mines students tend to be more mild with partying & keeping to themselves, but curious if anyone has personal experience being not-college age and living close to the Mines campus?

Cheers & TIYA

Update: WOW - lots of responses, appreciate the info ya'll <3

Water tastes off - S. Golden

I won’t name drop, as I like these businesses. I have been to 2 restaurants in south golden in the last week and the water tasted awful. It had a moldy, chemical taste that made it undrinkable. It did not taste like chlorine. It was something else.

I thought it was just the one place and was surprised when the water has the same taste a few blocks away. I have never noticed it before this week.

Is south Golden water from a different plant or source than the rest of Golden?

Has anyone else noticed this?

Columbine Bar

Let me start off by professing my love of dive bars. I am originally from the Midwest and back home, dive bars are treated very much like English pubs. Yes they are a place for old drunks to get a cheap beer, but they are also community gathering posts. They are places to put away your phones, your political allegiances, and your daily troubles.

Every time I encounter a new one, I want to go in blind, no pre concieved notions, no expectations. Just join the crowd and soak in the vibe. Today me and my partner (Denver residence) went to Columbine Bar after a hike on Tableside Mountain, and I have to say I was blown away.

This bar has been opporating within the same family for nearly 100 years. Chris, the owner, a beautiful human, was so kind and welcoming. He told us all about the history of the place, the legends of the original owners, knew the exact years of all the fun vintage bar signs, and was more than happy to share the history of the 1800's officers sword hanging behind the bar.

Chris is the type of person who has never met a stranger in his whole life. He is the definition of hospitality. He knew everyone by name, and even though we had only met him that day, he treated us like regulars.

They also have an amazing back patio with a giant lawn and stage. The lawn was chained off to allow the turf time to grow and take hold before bluegrass season begins. During the summer, they host family-friendly blue grass concerts in the ample back yard and even have a outdoor kitchen set up where the folks at Bob's Atomic Burgers provide delicious vidals (my partner and her kids are veggie, so we had to ask, and yes they have veggie burgers too!)

After a few beers and some great house made pickle and pepperoncini shots, conversations with the delightful gang of regulars, and quite a few songs on the jukebox, we decided it was time to head home. Before leaving, Chris, who had recently been releived of his bar duties by his son, gave us a very warm hug before we left.

I absolutely adored the 2 hours we spent at this place an would highly recommend it to anyone.

P.s. during the winter months, Chris also tunes snowboards and skis. Only in Colorado!

Green Mountain E-motorcycle loser - where to report?

He was riding his e-motorcycle all over GM off trail, fucking around near the elk and throwing empty beer bottles in the grass, just an overall shitty human being.

I normally don't confront people or care what you're doing, but this shit pisses me off. It's even worse that it's all softened up from the snow and he was tearing the place up. Also was a terrible rider which somehow also made it worse to me.

May be breaking the rules, but no clue who to even take this to.

Don't engage these losers.

Anyone have any ideas on how to move these people out of downtown without infringing their rights? They're annoying, and they're messing with traffic.

Incident command system training basics

Come learn about the incident command system and tested tools for flexible response to incidents and emergencies!

This system is used by all emergency services, law enforcement agencies and military. It allows for a rapid and organized response that is flexible to any incident and can tailored quickly. It comes with a set of tools such as job action sheets that designate specific tasks/functions, identification and safety procedures, etc. These methods can also be used to break up long responses into operational periods. We’ll also be covering communication tools to aid in verification of information, pathways of information, and clear language. This structure is how ICE and other migra agencies are supposed to function. This knowledge will also make identifying their different roles easier on a scene and allow confirmers or responders to know who is ideal for them to try to talk to.

You can RSVP on our encrypted form here so we can send you the link to the training and a follow up email with materials from the training. This also helps give us an idea of the number of attendees even if you choose not to share personal information! We understand that people are hesitant to share their personal information so we do not require registration to attend. You can just click the zoom link provided in the details section at 6pm on April 24th. You are not required to be logged into an email address to attend the training.

This training is virtual only and presented by We Keep Us Safe: El Pueblo Unido Contra ICE. We Keep Us Safe is a grassroots initiative to help the metro Denver area organize proactively and effectively to protect our community members from being inhumanely kidnapped by ICE. We are developing a hub of resources and best practices targeted towards the Denver area, but many of the resources are statewide. This can be found on our website wkus-co.org! We are educating and activating community members through canvassing, training, and outreach. Our goal is to support interested volunteers across the Denver area in building community and solidarity–and to support volunteers in effectively self-organizing in the face of state violence.

Coors Brewery gift shop

Good evening!

Does anyone know if the Coors Brewery has a gift shop without having to pay for a tour?

I found a really cool belt buckle on their website i want to gift someone, but since i live in the area I'd rather not have to order it if they have a gift shop. Thanks!
