Is it me or is this bank's customer service plummeting?

I've been with HSBC for 19 years, in that time my local branch has closed 4 times, to the point where it isn't even local anymore.

I am happy to use online banking, so that's just a minor annoyance. But I've had two recent gripes with the online banking which has be tempted to just close all my accounts and move bank.

Firstly, I was in holiday and my card was cloned, it happens, what doesn't happen is it took over 36 hours for the bank to respond to my messages leaving me without any bank cards for this time as I wasn't able to order a new one and add it to my phone wallet.

And now, I'm trying to get an appointment to discuss getting a mortgage in person (because it's a big topic and I don't want to entrust it to a phone call alone) and they refused to offer me an in person mortgage appointment as I had not made an offer on a house.

I asked for a general finance appointment, the waiting list is over a month.

What is the point with this bank anymore?

Wealth Office Sales Manager

A recruiter reached out to me to schedule a meeting to discuss a Wealth Office Sales Manager role, but she did not give me any details other than a job posting, and that posting seems quite vague.

If anyone is familiar with this role, can you shed some light on the day to day of a newly onboarded Sales Manager?

For background, I am coming from JPMorgan Private bank for the past 5 years, and Chase Wealth Management for the last 7 months.

Is this a call heavy role, or will I be partnering with a team? What is onboarding and training like?

Any insight is good insight as I am relatively unfamiliar with HSBC.

Thanks!

HSBC EWS Salary Account + Live+ CC — Is this normal?

Hi everyone,

I opened an HSBC ESB Salary Account through an HSBC office camp on 13 August. During the application, I opted for the HSBC Live+ Credit Card as well, and later received an application PDF mentioning the Live+ card.

My salary account has been opened successfully, but I haven't received any update regarding the credit card application - no confirmation, reference number, or approval/ rejection message.

Has anyone else experienced this? Is it normal for the credit card application to take a few days after the salary account is opened?

I had given up and just randomly I checked my portal today and to my surprise it’s showing approved!!! I’m not sure what happened but I’m on the lookout for a blue dart link text/call🤞

HSBC Live+ credit card application status pending after long KYC fiasco

I applied for HSBC Live + credit card yesterday. After providing all the required information then comes Video KYC.

It was disconnected by first agent. Then second ones call dropped. Third one was not able to see PAN card from laptop so suggested to join from mobile and disconnected.

I tried on mobile but it was showing status you are already on call wait for it to end and after some timeit showed you are not loggedin continuosly even after refresh or open incognito.

Finally tried again on laptop same fiasco, PAN card is visible but DOB is not visible in END. Not sure I have already verified DOB with Aadhar verfication in application with OTP in online application, seems nitpicking I can also see that clearly in video feed but not to them. Finally HSBC rep dropped the call and asked to again join from mobile.

I tried again same issue on my mobile chrome, asking for login but no way to login provided.

Tried from another phone finally it started but one represntative asked to remove headphone to take photo of me and then I was not able to hear her after removing headphone for few seconds and she disconnected quickly giving no time.

Finally connected again and everything went through but it was more furstrating like job interview. Even after my all the authenticated details asked same. Like in address Aadhar mentioned ward no which is not relevant but they mentioned I missed important detail. Similarly for office address and even salary to the last digit after providing same as documents.

After all this status is some weird message "Clarification Required. Your application is pending as we require additional clarification. Please contact your Relationship Manager or visit your nearest HSBC India branch to provide the required information."

Any help... Feeling dejected for no reason due to idiots representatives with no common sense and testing patience to the core. Somehow I remain composed but seems that was not common to them so mentioned some weird thing after providing everthing correctly.

I don't have even RM or card number what to do now???

Waiting 10d for Premier Current Account

Hi,

I’ve applied for a HSBC Premier Current Account but it’s taken so long to open I am not sure what’s going on. I can see a soft search has been done on me on the 2nd but the HSBC app still says my application is being processed.

I’ve tried to ask for help but as I don’t have an account it’s difficult.

Any advice?

HSBC gave me a wrong cheque book

I have been using banks more than 15 years and for the first time in my life a bank made a mistake with my name. The question is, what happens if I use this cheque when my name is not correct? Any ideas and does this happen to someone else?

After waiting for over one month, I was able to open a bank account in Hong Kong 🙃

Alright, here’s the story—

I’m back in Hong Kong for three months (I am born and raised in the US and I have a HKID that is non-permanent/no three stars) for pre-doctoral dissertation activities and decided to open a bank account at HSBC. On 3 July, I went to the Tsuen Wan West branch to start the process (I have prior knowledge with trying to open a bank account at Hang Sang back in 2024, and they told me I need to stay for a longer time in order to open an account), and filled out a W9 form. I received an email on 8 July telling me to fill out a W9 and some FACTA forms (if applicable, according to the email). I went bank to the same branch to follow up, and showed the same service people who helped me, and they told me my case needed longer time to process bc I have a US passport. So I waited, and in the email I received on 8 July, it stated that I had until 27 July to complete the forms in person.

I was in the Hung Hom area on 27 July, so I decided to drop by the Hung Hom branch. I actually got to sit down with someone to follow up on my application, and they tried to call the Tsuen Wan West branch three times before deciding to assist me by printing out another W9 form to complete and the person assisting me also told me to fill out FACTA Forms A and B, and scanned my passport photo page and HKID. Within a week after helping me, I received a follow up email inviting me to open an account online. I went back to the Hung Hom branch to finish up the details and deposited the cash I had on hand (finally)!

During the week from resubmitting forms and waiting for a follow up email inviting me to open an account online, I did receive a rejection email on 30 July. The person who helped me at the Hung Hom branch called me last week on 30 July to clarify that my application was still being reviewed because I turned in everything by the deadline.

If you’re an overseas born Chinese like me from the US, I totally recommend going to the HSBC Hung Hom branch. They’re really great and super nice. I am so grateful for them!! Had I worked from them since initiating this process, I would had probably already had a bank account in July.

Edited: Removed name of the person who assisted me

Horrible experience with HSBC India — zero response from customer service

I’ve been trying to open a salary account with HSBC, and honestly, the experience has been incredibly frustrating.
My take-home salary is around ₹2.4 lakh/month, and despite that, getting basic assistance from HSBC seems impossible.
Phone banking — no response/help
Chat support — no useful response
Website — broken/unusable for the application
Tried multiple times to complete the salary account application — still unable to do it
What makes this even more frustrating is that I already hold an HSBC TravelOne Credit Card. I’ve been trying to get the HSBC Live+ card for almost 2 months, but due to issues with their website and the lack of proper customer support, I still haven’t been able to complete the application.
I genuinely don’t understand how a bank can make something as basic as opening an account or applying for a credit card this difficult.
A premium banking experience should mean better service, not spending weeks chasing customer support with absolutely no resolution.
HSBC — please fix your website and, more importantly, provide some actual customer support.

HSBC Live+ application rejected due to employment verification mismatch after company acquisition. Any way to appeal?

I recently applied for the HSBC Live+ credit card, and the application was declined because my employment couldn't be verified.

The issue is that my employer has gone through multiple acquisitions and rebranding over the years. As a result:

My official work email uses the current company branding.

My salary slips still show the older legal entity.

Both belong to the same employer, but the names don't match.

I suspect this mismatch caused the employment verification to fail.

Has anyone dealt with something similar?

Is there an email ID or escalation team at HSBC that handles manual verification?

Can I submit additional documents like payslips, employee ID, or an HR confirmation?

Or is the only option to wait and reapply?

What costs did you incur by sending a telegraphic transfer from a Hong Kong HSBC account to an overseas bank account?

I’m planning on doing this and would like to know others’ experiences of costs incurred, hidden or otherwise, so I can compare that with what HSBC Hong Kong tell me.
