Classics Library (Latin and Greek)

Hello there. Here's my library of Latin and Greek Classics, which I've put together over the last 20-odd years.

The photos are of the following:

  1. Wideshot of the Library.

  2. Wideshot of the Latin Room.

  3. Desk and mantelpiece (mostly 17^(th)-19^(th)-century editions of Latin and Greek)

  4. Rotating bookcase (Latin texts), guarded by Cali.

  5. Latin commentaries (chronological by author)

  6. Left half of left wall of Library (top to bottom: Pauly Wissowa, Valpy’s Delphin Latin Classics, Greek and Latin Loebs, I Tatti, Oxford Classical Texts and Teubners, Greek literature)

  7. Modern compositions in Latin and Greek

  8. Editions of, and commentaries on, Lucretius.

  9. Lectures and booklets on Classical subjects.

  10. Some Very Short Introductions (OUP).

  11. Books on Latin and Greek prose and verse composition.

  12. Books on the history of Classical scholarship.

  13. Books on Greek and Latin language, textual criticism and manuscripts.

  14. Desk in Latin Room.

  15. Latin Room from door.

  16. Left wall of Library (before top shelf was required)

  17. Library from entrance.

New shelves!

To this point, we have amassed various bookshelves, none of which matched in color, size, or shape. The wife and I finally gave in and splurged on a wall of shelves for our home library. Let me know what you all think! We absolutely love it!!

His and Hers Custom Library

My Wife and I bought a century home and have been doing renovations / updating room by room. My wife’s dream was to have her very own library. She enjoys Dark Romantasy books and Tim Burton movies, I Love Fantasy Science Fiction / Horror Movies and a wide variety Music, so I let my creative juices flow and built a room for her, but one we can both enjoy completely from scratch. And of course, had to make a “Secret Door” to gain access. Pull on the book, and it unlocks the Murphy Style Door. Always wanted one of those! Love to know your thoughts!

My bookcases, two shelves at a time, #5.

A couple of my favorite authors represented pretty well here. Any guesses who? Comments and questions always welcome!

Home library app/system

Hi all! I'm looking for an app/system i can scan books onto where I can then sort by genre/tropes. Are there any that have this feature built in? Or would i have to add genres/tropes as tags myself and add manually to each book? Thanks!

App to track owned books

Hi,
I’m looking for an app to track the books I own. I have about 400 so nothing crazy. I’ve tried loads but haven’t quite found anything perfect yet so I’m appealing for help please!
What I’d like:
- preferably available on App Store rather than a website
- barcode scanner would be great
- can have multiple versions of the same book. An issue I’ve previously come across is an inability to have both the fairyloot and standard edition for example. Currently using BookBuddy but this is my main issue with it!
- also the ability to log books from companies like fairyloot that don’t have an ISBN as well as traditional publishers
- having little pictures of the book covers would be nice too
- a nice UI and good user experience
Has anyone used anything that ticks these boxes and that they would recommend?
Thank you 📚

My bookcase, two shelves at a time, #3.

A nice potpourri of older, newer, lettered, and somewhat obscure books today. Heavy on the Lucious Shephard; someone else wanted to see what all I had from Shephard, so these are together. Of course, there a few that are elsewhere. We’ll run in to those as we go along.

My bookcase, two shelves at a time, #4.

Today’s photo is for the Centipede Press lovers out there; you know who you are. Enjoy seeing all of your favorite MoWT titles in one place. A little overflow in to the next shelf, but we’ll get to that. Comments and questions welcome.

starting my first home library!

hello all! i moved in with my boyfriend about a year ago now and we recently turned our guest bedroom into a home library, since dont usually have company over. i really just wanted to post on here and also ask — does anyone know good ways to thrift books online? i’ve been scouring ebay, but dont really know what i’m doing a lot of the time and have a huge list of books i want to try to thrift, so any tips/suggestions are appreciated!

side note: i feel like i could also be doing a bit more for my home library, but also.. don’t really know where to start, so if anyone has any suggestions on that, too 😅

thanks in advance!

Ideas for Too Many Books

I have more books than I have space for and I am running out of space to add more bookshelves. I am considering rebuilding the bookcases (built ins) in my library. The books are currently shelved 2 deep on each shelf. I would be very interested in any ideas anyone might have as to a bookshelf configuration which might yield me more book room. The shelves are already floor to ceiling.

Been building his and hers offices out of our two spare rooms.

My bookcases, two shelves at a time, #2.

Next up: a couple of diverse shelves; something old, something new, a lot in between. The books on the upper right are the Subterranean Press editions of the entire Expanse series, which all have beautiful wrap-around covers without printing. As always, shelving is done by my whim and mood, without discernible organization. I just can’t do it. Comments/questions welcome.

Shelving/Displaying/Archiving Magazines

I have about 5 years of monthly magazines that I'd love to find a way to properly store. Right now, they're all just stored like a book with "spines" out. While that works well for books, it's not the best for relatively much thinner magazines.

Anyone have any recommendations?
