ITR return stuck on “Return Processing” since June - anyone else?

I filed my ITR on 24 June 2026, and it was also verified successfully on the same day. However, it's now August and the status is still showing "Return Processing."

It’s been around 7 weeks with no further update. I understand processing can take some time, but this seems unusually long.

Has anyone else filed around the same time and still has their return stuck in processing? How long did it take for your status to change to “Processed On”?

Would appreciate any advice on whether I should just wait or if there's something I need to do from my side.

2024 Tax Refund ~$99K

2024 IRS Refund Still Not Paid — Transcript Shows Codes 570 and 810. IRS Told Me 90 Days After Identity Verification

TL;DR: We filed our 2024 married-filing-jointly federal return, and the IRS transcript shows a $99,682 refund. The return was processed in June 2025, but the refund still hasn't been issued. The transcript shows TC 570 (Additional Account Action Pending) and later TC 810 (Refund Freeze).

I received an IRS CP5071 identity-verification notice on April 24, 2025. I promptly called the number on the notice and successfully completed the identity verification. Over a year later, I eventually reached an IRS representative in June 2026, successfully answered identity-verification questions again, and was told I should receive the refund within 90 days. That 90-day period is coming up on September 1, 2026.

I'm hoping to get some opinions from people who have dealt with a similar situation, especially anyone familiar with IRS account transcripts and these transaction codes.

The timeline

2024 return: Married Filing Jointly

Return due date: April 15, 2025

Return processed: June 9, 2025

AGI: $597,681

Taxable income: $568,431

Tax per return: $142,912

Refund shown on transcript: $99,682

The transcript shows:

TC 150 — Tax return filed — 06/09/2025 — $142,912

TC 806 — W-2/1099 withholding — 04/15/2025 — -$194,072

TC 660 — Estimated tax payment — 09/13/2024 — -$36,392

TC 660 — Estimated tax payment — 01/14/2025 — -$12,130

TC 460 — Extension of time to file — 04/14/2025

TC 570 — Additional account action pending — 06/09/2025

TC 810 — Refund freeze — 10/17/2025

The transcript shows an account balance of -$99,682, with no accrued interest or penalty as of 11/10/2025.

Update from June 2026

Here's where things get interesting.

Around June 1, 2026, I called the IRS and was somehow able to get through to a representative. The representative asked me a series of identity-related questions, which I answered successfully.

After confirming my identity, I was told that I should receive my refund within 90 days from that point.

I realize that the 90 days technically hasn't expired yet. We're approaching the 90-day mark, which should be around September 1, 2026.

However, given that this refund has already been outstanding since 2025, I'm trying to understand what may be happening behind the scenes and what I should do if September 1 comes and goes without a refund.

What I'm trying to understand

I'm particularly interested in hearing from anyone who knows what the combination of 570 → 810 usually means.

Does TC 810 indicate that the IRS has identified a specific problem with the return, or can it simply mean the refund is being held while the IRS verifies something?

Also, does successfully completing the identity verification with an IRS representative in June normally result in the IRS releasing the refund within a specific timeframe?

What would you do?

If you've experienced something similar, I'd really appreciate your advice.

Did you have TC 570 followed by TC 810?

Did the IRS ask you identity-verification questions?

Were you given a 90-day timeframe?

Did the refund actually arrive within that timeframe?

Did your transcript change before the refund was issued?

Would you wait until the 90 days expires, or contact the IRS/TAS before then?

If September 1 passes with no refund, what would you recommend doing next?

I'm especially interested in hearing from anyone who has dealt with a large refund that was frozen for an extended period.

Thanks in advance. I'm trying to figure out whether I'm finally at the end of the process or whether I need to take additional steps once the 90-day period expires.

EDITED TO ADD:

One thing I forgot to mention in my original post:

We do have a CPA who prepared the return, and we've been in contact with him. His position is essentially that the IRS has to complete its review and there isn't much he can do to expedite it.

There are legitimate reasons for the size of the refund. I own a business and made a significant contribution to a retirement/cash-balance pension plan in 2024, which substantially reduced our taxable income. We also made estimated tax payments because we had previously been advised to do so, and my wife had additional federal withholding taken from her W-2. We've since corrected the withholding.

There were no business losses, gambling income/losses, or questionable credits involved.

My Wage & Income Transcript isn't currently available through my IRS account because I had an identity-theft issue about 7–8 years ago and have been required to use an IRS IP PIN since then. However, we're confident that the income and withholding were reported correctly—my wife's W-2 income and my business income were properly reported.

Hopefully that provides some additional context.

Amended Return status "Adjusted" then 290

Has anyone experienced a similar process as this? I'm trying to estimate when I might get a refund. My CP 12 showed what the refund due is expected to be after they made a correction. The CP 05 is the 60 day review with no action needed. My amended return is in the "Adjusted" status.

Frustrated 😭

I need to vent because the math and the script updates from IRS customer service are driving me absolutely wild.

My issue is just a rejected dd because of a wrong routing… why is it taking forever.

Here is how my journey with customer service representatives has gone so far for a direct deposit return conversion:

1. Call #1: "Just wait 60 days, you'll see an update or a paper check."

2. Call #2 (after 60 days): "Oh, actually... give it ANOTHER 60 days."

3. Call #3 (Today): "Actually, it's undergoing review. Allow 10 weeks starting from July 15th, and if you don't hear anything by late September, call us back!"

Every single time I ring them up, they just generate a whole new countdown clock out of thin air! 😭

Has anyone else gotten stuck in this endless loop where every agent gives you a completely different arbitrary timeframe? Does the 10-week clock from a random mid-month date actually mean something is moving behind the scenes, or is it just their favorite script to buy time?

At this point, I'm expecting my next call to be "Please wait 12-14 business lunar cycles." 🤡

IRS Refund Status - Update

I was one of the taxpayers who had to verify my identity with an IRS Agent/Represetative. My 2025 taxes were filed in April, I verified my identity in May and the agent told me it would take 9 weeks to get my refund. He told me to call IRS if I did not get it by then. The 9 weeks was up on 7/16/26. I’ve been trying to call ever since. Today (8/12) I tried calling TAC (Taxpayer Advocate Service) and was able to speak to someone on my 2nd attempt. The TAC rep was very helpful. She looked up my info and told me the record does indicate I verified my identity BUT the IRS rep failed to do the required next step which is why my refund was not processed. She transferred me to the IRS department that handles identity verification and after a short wait of 30 minutes I was able to speak to a rep that confirmed the mistake had been made by the rep who handled my identity verification. He fixed the problem (sent my tax information for processing) and then told me I should get my refund in 9 weeks! UNBELIEVABLE!!! Another 9 weeks!! He did say it’s possible I will get it sooner. I guess if I hadn’t contacted TAC, my refund would never have been processed.

Need help : Account locked

Need advice: CRA account locked due to suspected fraud
Hi everyone, I’m looking for some advice from anyone who has dealt with a locked CRA account.
My CRA account was locked due to a suspicious/fraud-related issue. I submitted all the required documents through the CRA Secure Drop Box in February.
In June, an assigned CRA agent called me, but unfortunately I missed the call. Since then, I’ve tried calling the agent back multiple times, but I haven’t been able to reach her.
I also received a letter asking me to submit the documents again, so I sent them again by fax as instructed. It has now been about two months, and I still haven’t received any update. The assigned agent is not answering my calls either.
I’m getting worried because I need access to my CRA account and want to make sure my documents were actually received and processed.
Has anyone experienced something similar?
What is the best way to escalate this or get another CRA agent/team to review my case? Should I contact the CRA complaints/Service Feedback process, my MP, or is there another department I should contact?
Any advice or experience would be greatly appreciated.

Still waiting for tax refund!

Anyone know what I can do to at least speak to someone. Husband and I filed in late February and we still haven’t received anything! I had called the first two months and was able to speak to someone; everything looked fine and they told me that I had to wait 30 days and then to call back if I hadn’t received anything. Now I call and it says that the extension given has too many callers at that time to call back later or next business day. Any suggestions??? Anyone else having these issues??? 😓😔
