Best tips to score high on Chem/Phys what got me 131:

  1. Stop treating C/P like a memorization section. A lot of it is pattern recognition: units, equations, relationships, and knowing what the passage is asking for.
  2. Learn equations by meaning, not just symbols. Don’t just memorize F = ma. Know that force increases when mass or acceleration increases. The MCAT loves testing relationships more than plug-and-chug.
  3. Units can save you. If you forget an equation, look at the answer units and work backward. For example, if the answer is in Joules, you should be thinking about energy/work units.
  4. Don’t waste too much time on low-yield details. Focus on acids/bases, electrochem, fluids, circuits, forces, work/energy, gases, thermodynamics, kinetics, lab techniques, amino acids, enzymes, and basic orgo patterns.
  5. For orgo, focus on logic: functional groups, acid/base, nucleophiles/electrophiles, oxidation/reduction, and lab techniques. You do not need to memorize every random reaction.
  6. Start practice earlier than you feel ready. C/P improves when you do questions, get them wrong, and figure out exactly why you missed them.
  7. Review missed questions deeply. Ask: Was this a content gap, unit mistake, wrong equation, passage misunderstanding, or trap answer?
  8. Keep an equation sheet and rewrite it often, but also write what each variable means and when to use the equation.
  9. Don’t jump between 10 resources. Pick one organized content source, then use AAMC-style practice to train application.
  10. Timing matters. If a question is taking too long, flag it and move on. C/P rewards calm decision-making.

The biggest thing is learning how to think through the section, not just knowing facts. Chem/Phys gets much easier once you understand the high-yield patterns and stop trying to study every tiny detail.

How I Used a 40-Page Doc to Make Psych/Soc Less Overwhelming

I made a condensed Psych/Soc document for MCAT studying, and the main goal was to make P/S feel less overwhelming.

The document is 40 pages and follows the Khan Academy Psych/Soc videos in order, but it’s written in a simplified way so it’s easier to review. I focused on breaking terms down in baby-step language, connecting concepts to real-life examples, and organizing topics so they actually make sense instead of feeling like random definitions.

One thing I noticed with P/S is that it can feel “easy” at first because a lot of it looks like memorization, but once you start doing passages, you realize you need to actually understand how terms show up in real scenarios.

The structure that helped most was:

Simple definitions
Real-life examples
High-yield organization
Khan Academy order
Condensed review format

For anyone studying P/S, I’d recommend organizing terms by concept and attaching each definition to a real-life example instead of memorizing random words by themselves.

testing 5/22 .. freaking out

5/22 was my pushback date from my original exam date, and honestly, I feel like I have not improved on my full-length scores as much as I wanted to AT ALL. Avg around 500 😞

I’ve been studying for the past 5 ish months while still being in undergrad and finishing my senior year, and I feel like I’ve put so much effort into this with very little to show for it. I’m having the worst anxiety right now and feel sick to my stomach. I’m not sure whether I should void at this point or keep pushing, try to stay positive, and see what happens.

Based on my average FL scores, I feel conflicted and stressed. I really don’t want to take two gap years, but it honestly feels like I may not have a choice right now.

I don’t know if this is just a rant or if I’m looking for advice, but I could really use some perspective from people who understand this process. When I call my family for support, the response is usually, “I would hate to see you take too much time off,” and that just makes me feel even worse, even though I know they probably mean well.

Has anyone else been in this position close to test day? How did you decide whether to void, score, or move forward?

Free MCAT Study Tools?

Hi, I plan to take the MCAT next year but as a low-income student, I can't afford certain resources. My mom found 2025-2026 kaplan MCAT books earlier in 2025 so I'll use those to study as well. Does anyone know of any free MCAT resources I could use to study?

FYI: I already used the code to access Kaplan's online resources but I was experiencing some personal issues during that time so I couldn't pause my "subscription" or whatever.

Advice on how to get to 510+ by mid June??

Just finished FL3 recently. Physics & Orgo got me this time on CP. How do I make the jump to a 510+? Testing mid june. (So a little under 4 weeks out)

For context, finished only sb2 and cars qpack1 so far in terms of aamc material. All of UW done. Captain hook for BB complete & Aidan for P/S. And I can only study 5-6 hours on weekdays. (Weekend for fl + review)

I did things differently... now I'm nervous.

Before you jump on me with the "what do you want a pat on the back" read the whole thing. I test 5/22.

Here are my AAMC FLs: 510, 513, 514, 515, 521, 522.

I also took 6 BP Full lengths. I did not do Uworld or the AAMC-Qpacks or SBs. (This is what has me scared). I prioritized test taking strategy since I didn't have any big content gaps- and it seemed to pay off. However in the week leading up to my test I started the SBs. Not intending on using it to practice but just to stay sharp. And boy- they are terrible. Is it just me? I mean I might stop using them because they crushed my confidence. The logic actually seems different than what I have come to learn on the FLs. Really awful and low yield feeling. Any thoughts?

Is U aweghowgb; worth it if I have all AAMC material?

I know this question has been asked a million times, but is Uaghwpof GENUINELY worth it? For context:

  • My score expired, got a 520 in 2023 and have completely forgot everything bc I crammed. I also had a huge jump in score (I think around 6 or 7 points from my highest FL to actual) so I'm worried I got lucky and won't be this time around
  • I have all AAMC materials (Q Packs, S banks, Exams, etc.)
  • I have 24 days until the MCAT, and I still need to do the following:
    • Finish content review for biochem, chem, phys, psych/soc with milesdown (will ideally finish by 5/23)
    • Do all AAMC material (I have done 15 questions, bought ts yesterday)

I think I can finish milesdown by 5/23 if I lock tf in, but on the off chance I don't, the latest I can complete it is 5/26. That leaves roughly 12 days of pure practice, accounting for Anki review and working on my primary app for other days.

Do y'all think getting Uaio;ef;owgo and blasting those questions for 5 days straight is extremely important for content review, or is AAMC alongside milesdown anki sufficient? I know it's ideal to practice as much as possible, but I would benefit significantly from having extra time to write my personal statement and complete some volunteer hours.

I am worried about my score dropping as my GPA is hovering a 3.5 with a downward trend and no good explanation for why besides math is hard and undiagnosed ADHD (which I know better than to mention to adcoms).

Bank Scores vs Real MCAT Score?

For people who have taken the MCAT within the past year:

What were your AAMC Section Bank scores, and what did you end up scoring on the real MCAT?

130+ PS without anki/pankow possible?

basically title. not sure why, but i hate doing anki for PS.

I have the pankow deck and i've been feeling overwhelmed by it--idk if its bc the cards are hella specific, or if my method for content review and un/suspending cards for PS was different than what i did for the science sections. For BB/CP, I did content review w/ kaplan books and YT videos while unsuspending cards after each chapter, which was fine for me. when i was starting to study, almost everywhere I looked on this subreddit said not to use the book for PS bc it was a waste, and instead save PS for the end and rip 300/90 pg doc w/ pankow. now, im wondering if I'd be better off doing CR for PS the same way as my other subjects.

do any 129/130+ scorers out there have non-anki tips/resources for mastery? i'd really appreciate it, thank you!!!

Post MCAT feelings / were FL scores representative

For past MCAT test takers — after finishing the real exam, did you actually have a good sense of how you performed?

Like, did you walk out feeling confident and end up scoring well, or is it pretty common to feel terrible/uncertain and still do fine? I’m curious how accurate people’s feelings were after the test and whether it’s really possible to know how you did right after finishing.

Also, how representative were your FL scores compared to your actual MCAT score? Did your real score end up close to your AAMC FL average, higher, lower, not even remotely close?

FL6 CARS Q5

I'm so confused why it's D I was stuck between A and B for so long I would have never considered D at all. I needed up choosing A bc the end of the that I have highlighted on top directly stated the toolkit complexity was positively and strongly correlated to lattitude so I thought that's a direct answer right there. The hypothesis the scientist made was that there was a relationship between toolkit complexity and time stress so that's why I was also considering time stress because the study is based on that whole hypothesis and attitude is a proxy for time stress. Both of those were directly mentioned in the passage, no where does the author attribute it directly to risk of failure??

Need honest advice about whether to take or postpone MCAT retake

Background:

  • First MCAT: 489
  • Strong GPA 3.95 neuroscience major with clinical experience
  • Applying MD this cycle ideally, really hoping to avoid another gap year
  • Been studying for months while working part-time as an MA
  • AAMC FLs mostly around 498–502 range
  • Just took FL6 while VERY sick (fever, sore throat, body aches, power outage interruption) and got 497

My issue is I genuinely cannot tell anymore whether:

  1. I am actually not ready, or
  2. anxiety/exhaustion/testing conditions are making me perform below my ability.

I’ve completed most AAMC material including section banks, CARS diagnostic and questions packs and FLs. I test 5/30 currently. If I postpone, next option is 6/26, but I also have major family events in June that may affect productivity, and i know I won't be able to study effectively until after 6/12. So I don't know if it will be worth it to push that late.

I know a second low score could hurt, but I also don’t want to keep delaying forever out of fear.

For people who had low first scores or borderline FLs:

  • what helped you decide whether to test or postpone?
  • did your real score end up higher/lower than FL average?
  • how did you know anxiety/burnout was affecting performance?
  • what helped you get the highest score jump in 2 weeks?

My main issues is timing for CARS I find my self short on time for the last 2 passages. B/B more passage strategies than content. P/S and C/P usually my highest sections.

Highest I got on each sections:

127 C/P

125 CARS

126 B/B

127 P/S

Please be honest but constructive. I’m trying to make the smartest long-term decision.

Are Kaplan books really worth it? Other recommendations to use instead for content review

Hi! I'm just getting started planning my MCAT study prep and deciding what resources I should purchase to get started. I just graduated from undergrad and am planning on starting to study ASAP. My full-time job starts in early June, so I want to lock in and grind content review as much as possible before I start working 9-5. My current plan is to take the MCAT early September, start by content reviewing with Anki and maybe Kaplan, then practice tests using UWorld Qbank and maybe Bootcamp (got this for free), then AAMC practice exams for the last month.

However, throughout my undergrad, I never did well with reading textbooks. I was fortunate that I never needed to purchase any textbooks in undergrad ever, as most of my courses were optional. I was able to get by just fine (3.95 GPA) using just class notes and online videos. I feel I learn the best from watching review videos online, and am worried that me purchasing the Kaplan books for content review will be a waste of my time and money, as I'm not a textbook person. Is it worth it for me to spend the money on these books, or are there any other resources out there that might be better suited for my learning style?

Feel like shit [studying for too long for naught]

https://preview.redd.it/apyzn9hxay1h1.png?width=2089&format=png&auto=webp&s=fb51e871c001e89a7694da2ca2f32d4882eef639

Feel like shit. I got the same score 2 weeks ago on FL4 (129/128/128/130) 512 and FL5 (127/126/129/130).

PLEASE dont comment that i should be grateful because I am, but .....

I've been working my fucking ass off doing SBs and thought i was improving. My percentages were as so:

https://preview.redd.it/ww4ahqutby1h1.png?width=2063&format=png&auto=webp&s=1242aa5216644906ced3f9908b3c6a0b6455ac17

currently doing after SB1 completely

What burns me the most is that I was 4 questions off a 519.

What do I do to improve my score by my test date if its even possible by my test date 5/22.
