Nobody knows this restaurant in Dehradun but I've had vivid memories along with my classmates & friends. Manduwala's Rooftop cafe it is.

I gorge on Naga style smoked pork since the time I'm living in Dehradun…Manduwala has this rooftop spot I’m visiting since my college days in 2016, and I randomly revisited it this sunday thinking nostalgia might be exaggerating the memory… but nope. The food is still ridiculously good.

EVEN NOW...

The Double Smoked Pork Shyapta alone is worth the drive. Proper smoky pork fat flavour… slightly spicy… deep fermented chilli notes… YUMS.

Feels like actual home-style northeastern cooking instead of toned-down versions made for mainstream crowds.

Their Pork Dry Noodles also deserve attention. Not fancy-looking at all… but the flavour sits with you. Smoky wok aroma, juicy pork bits, balanced seasoning… very comforting food.

Also had Pork Laphings + Mango Mojito which weirdly became one of my favourite combinations there.

And weirdly enough, the drive from Nanda Ki Chowki to Manduwala via Pondha adds to the whole experience. Especially on Sundays.

Most new influencers in Dehradun still haven’t discovered this side properly… and maybe that’s a good thing honestly.

Nagas and Kuki-Zo should stop fighting

People from the NE should realize that Hindu nationalists are a way bigger threat than NSCN or KNA are. Since BJP, Hindu nationalist paramilitaries have been attacking Christians at random.

Why are they attacking a minority that are 2 percentage of the population? Because, in their ideology, Christians can never be Indian since our "Holy sites" (whatever that means) is outside India.

Here's something prominent and famous RSS leaders have said:

>To keep up the purity of the nation and its culture, Germany shocked the world by her purging the country of Semitic races – the Jews. National pride at its highest has been manifested here. Germany has also shown how well-nigh impossible it is for races and cultures, having differences going to the root, to be assimilated into one united whole, a good lesson for us in Hindustan to learn and profit by.

>"Hindus, don't waste your energy fighting the British. Save your energy to fight our internal enemies that are Muslims, Christians, and Communists."

Keep in mind, this applies to the Naga and Kuki-Zomi-Mizo people that live in their lands since time immemorial. Hindutva claims Nagas aren't "proper Indians" and must be "purged out" of India and even sometimes Burma. (Remember Akhand Bharat)

It is interesting to note that the RSS allegedly has four organizations in Nagaland. I've remember hearing somewhere about an RSS linked organization whose purpose is to assimilate people of the NE.

Kuki-Zo and Nagas should honestly stop fighting, and start standing against this Hindu nationalist state.

Gutkha consumption across Indian states shows huge regional differences

According to NFHS-5 (2019–21), around 14.5% of Indian men aged 15–49 reported consuming gutkha or paan masala with tobacco. But the state-wise differences are massive. Nagaland (34.3%), Gujarat (33.6%), Odisha (31.1%), Madhya Pradesh (29.6%), and Uttar Pradesh (27.6%) recorded some of the highest rates, while Kerala (0.6%), Andhra Pradesh (1%), and Jammu & Kashmir (0.4%) remained among the lowest.

The data highlights how smokeless tobacco consumption in India is heavily shaped by regional habits, culture, awareness levels, and public health enforcement. Despite multiple state-level bans and anti-tobacco campaigns, gutkha remains widely consumed in several parts of the country and continues to be linked with rising oral cancer and other health risks.

Do you have Solar panels installed at your homes? Any idea how much subsidy does the State Government provide?

I tried searching but to no avail, most were approximations and most other articles had different quotations with no proper range.

Let us not forget the 14 victims kidnapped by the NSCN (IM)

On one hand, we have select people from the Kuki and Naga communities who are advocating for peace but heartless people (3rd slide) and their militant groups keep escalating the situation.

Before you look at it through a communal lens, let us first look at it through a humanitarian lens.

How utterly terrified the abducted victims must be feeling and how hopeless their families feel on the other side.

To our Manipuri Naga brothers, is this the legacy we leave behind for our future generations?

And to our brothers in Nagaland, are these crimes justified in any way, shape or form?

3 pastors killed in an ambush by Naga Militia. Whatever happened to ‘Nagalim for Christ’?

I write this with a heavy heart and tear stained eyes since I cannot imagine that such a disgusting act of violence and barbarism was showcased by our so called Naga brothers in Manipur.

All the candle light vigils, slogans and singing hymns won’t change the fact that you have the blood on the Lord’s pastors on your hands.

If anyone wishes to read more on the shameful incident I’ve inserted an excerpt from a news article but please read more from the sources on the second slide:

At least three people were shot dead and several others injured after unidentified armed men ambushed their vehicles in Manipur's Kangpokpi district on Wednesday, triggering an immediate blockade along National Highway-2 and heightened tension in the region.
The victims were three church leaders belonging to the Thadou Baptist Association (TBA), including former Manipur Baptist Convention (MBC) General Secretary Rev. V Sitlhou. The two others were identified as Rev. V Kaigoulun and Pastor Paogoulen.

According to reports, the victims were travelling in two vehicles and were returning to Kangpokpi from Churachandpur district after attending a TBA Conference in Lamka when they were attacked midway.

KIM said that Rev. V Sitlhou had recently participated in peace initiatives with the Nagaland Joint Christian Forum (NJCF) in Kohima aimed at fostering reconciliation and mutual understanding between communities

The "mighty ahoms"🥀

List of ahom defeats across North east

The Ahom army, though large and equipped with modern weapons like muskets, often faced defeat in the difficult mountainous terrain against specialized tribal tactics:

Defeat by the Nocte (1536 AD): Despite initial successes, the Nocte tribe eventually defeated the Ahom forces in 1536. Oral history suggests the Noctes captured four Ahom guns, forcing the Ahom King to sue for peace and promise not to interfere in Nocte domestic affairs.

Defeat by the Nyishi (1614 AD): In response to constant raids, King Pratap Singh attempted a major military march into Nyishi territories in 1614. The Ahom military was decisively defeated, leading to the construction of defensive forts like Daflagarh in the plains to protect against further incursions.

Defeat by Mishmi and Deoris (1675 AD): Following the murder of an Ahom priest, an army was sent to capture the perpetrators. The combined forces of the Mishmi and Deoris defeated the Ahom military, forcing a stalemate where the Ahoms eventually asked for tributes and a return of the guilty parties through negotiation rather than force.

Defeat by the Singpho: During the chaotic period of the late 18th and early 19th centuries, Singpho forces initially defeated Ahom troops under Deka Phukan. Although the Ahoms later captured Singpho forts, the tribe remained a powerful and semi-independent force.

Today we should celebrate the hidden history of tribals of north east and not just hindu Kingdoms like ahoms as our history is often just showcased as sub group of assam

Nagaland a home for the indegenous

Nagaland was a district in the State of Assam until 1957, known to others as “The Naga Hills”. Not satisfied with such an obscure status, the leaders of various Naga tribes, in August 1957, formed the Naga People’s Convention (NPC). In its first session held at Kohima on August 21, 1957, under the President ship of Late Dr. Imkongliba Ao, the NPC proposed the formation of a separate administrative unit by merging the Tuensang division of NEFA with Naga Hills District. The Government of India agreed to the proposal and on December 1, 1957, the new administrative unit known as the Naga Hills and Tuensang Area (NHTA) was inaugurated. In July 1960, a delegation of the NPC met the then Prime Minister of India, the late Jawaharlal Nehru and a 16 point agreement was arrived at, which inter-alia provided for the formulation of a separate State for the Nagas within the Indian Union to be known as “Nagaland” under the Ministry of External Affairs with a Governor and an Administrative Secretariat, a Council of Ministers and Legislative Assembly. (In 1972, the State was brought under the Ministry of Home Affairs).

What are nagas opinion on history that indian government had hidden, how do you guys feel like it when the government only mentions nagaland history as just sub part of assamese or manipuri history, if you guys are interested in discovering hidden mysterious hidden history which our government doesn't show us join my subreddit

In Kohima for a day or two for exams — what’s a must-do (bakeries, quick spots)?

Hey everyone,

I’ll be in Kohima for one - two days before my exam, so I won’t have much time to explore properly. I’m trying to make the most of that short window without overcomplicating things.

What are some must-do / essential experiences I shouldn’t miss in such a short stay?

Specifically looking for:

- A really good bakery (preferably something I can buy from and take back home)

- Any local snack?

- Quick places to visit (nothing too time-consuming, just something memorable nearby)

- Any underrated local stores or specialties where i could buy something nice/memorable?

Also, anything I should avoid or that’s overrated?

Would really appreciate recommendations from locals or anyone. Thanks!

Want to go to Dzüleke

Same as the title. I’m a Naga born and brought up here, but I’ve been away for college for the past 5 years and only come back occasionally. Since I’m currently on my summer break, I’ve been thinking of visiting Dzüleke.

Would now be a good time to go? If yes, how do I get there from Kohima, and what are the road conditions like these days? Is there any entry fee or payment required? Also, would it be possible to make it a same-day trip and return by evening?

If there is any additional information anyone would like to provide, i’d appreciate it
