Game Discussion #134 - Yoshi’s Story

These games are all super easy, but it does look pretty good. Especially for the time it came out.

Game Discussion #133 - WinBack

Alright, this one always stood out to me in comparison to the rest of the N64 Online launch library. Does anyone genuinely love this one? Granted, I haven’t played it, but it feels like Koei Tecmo just wanted to put something from their backlog on here.

Let's predict the launch games Nintendo will go with whenever the DS arrives on Nintendo Classics. I'll start with my guesses for the lineup.

Game Discussion #131 - Star Fox 64

Is the new remake any good? I didn’t buy it just because I way more prefer the voice clips in the original.

Game Discussion #130 - Sin and Punishment

A shame this one never got out of Japan because it’s a great time. Treasure makes some really good games.

Game Discussion #129 - Mario Tennis

I can imagine this game being a great multiplayer time. I like the idea of taking sports games and adding more video game elements to it.

Game Discussion #128 - Mario Kart 64

Fun game, but if I’m playing this on a Switch, I usually will just go back to 8 Deluxe once the novelty wears off. Not like this is a bad game or anything, it holds up well enough.

Game Discussion #127 - The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time

I don’t know what there is to say about this game that hasn’t already been talked about to death, so…the remake looks fine but I can’t really talk about it until I see actual gameplay.

Game Discussion #126 - Dr. Mario 64

Took a while to get to N64, huh? This game released oddly late into the system’s life, but I think it’s a great improvement from the original Dr. Mario. Also, a surprising amount of Wario Land 3 related elements in this game…so if you like that game, you’ll be happy with this one.

Donkey Kong 94 is a little masterpiece

Just finished Donkey Kong 94 for Gameboy, and I was very impressed.
What a fun, challenging puzzle platformer!

A little masterpiece, which is not extremely well known for some reason, but should be rated as highly as the Zelda, Mario and Wario games on the console.

If any game exemplifies "classic", it's this one. Today—both Super Mario 64, and the console it debuted on, the Nintendo 64, mark their 30th anniversaries! ★

"An eternal theme for me with game design has been to let the players create their own vision."

It's hard to overstate the importance of this one title. The gaming landscape had been turned on its head, seemingly overnight. With the advancement the new wave of 3D-capable machines brought—we went from static viewpoints and flat sprite-based graphics, to maneuvering entire worlds full of nuance, mystery, and mechanical wonder. Many struggled to translate what worked in the old method, to this wide-open and uncharted territory. Somehow, Nintendo came through and delivered, with their first shot.

Super Mario 64, and the Nintendo 64 hardware itself, released in Japan on June 23rd, 1996—making this day their 30th anniversaries. While not the most successful platform Nintendo had put out (it ended up being their weakest, sales-wise, for the time), no one can deny that many of the revolutionary 3D systems and mechanics still used today, were figured out by Nintendo for their flagship first 3D entries in the Super Mario and Legend of Zelda series.

I don't have a gigantic essay in me, or anything. I just wanted to create a little hub, where we can all share what this marvelous game means to us—both at the time of its release, and looking back on it, 30 years later.

And to anyone out there, honoring this milestone through a replay—or possibly even making the jump and checking out this classic for the very first time—I leave you with a few useful resources, that will help further immerse and guide you through one of early 3D gaming's most striking and joyful journeys.

"Ultimately, though, we really did want to change the culture of gaming, and it was in that spirit that we made Mario 64." — Shigeru Miyamoto, 1996

Game Discussion #123 - Claymates

I didn’t know this was related to ClayFighter, but it is. They should put those games up on here

Game Discussion #122 - Bombuzal

Without looking anything up about this game, I feel like this is an Amiga game that also ended up getting an SNES port released in North America, and nobody really likes it that much
