The last Pontiac GTO ever built, on display in Pontiac, MI
Had the privilege of attending a GTO-themed event at the M1 Concourse in Pontiac, Michigan. Hope I have the privilege of owning one one day too.
Since my new gto got a lot of love and feedback, here's some more pics! Thanks for making me feel welcome
Still wild that the 04–06 GTO was basically a Monaro with a different passport
Every time I see an 04–06 GTO next to a Holden Monaro, it still messes with my head a little.
Same basic car, but the badges, bumper details and plate recesses make them feel completely different at first glance. Then you look closer and it’s obvious how much Pontiac’s modern story was tied to Australia.
I’ve always thought the Monaro looks especially cool with the different rear plate setup and Holden badges.
Anyone here ever imported Holden parts, owned one of the related cars, or actually prefer the Monaro look over the Pontiac version?
My new 04 gto, any tips? Thoughts?
Im new here and this is my new to me 04 auto with black interior thats completely stock with 93k miles I got for only 10k. She's in very good condition too. Any tips or things I should know or do? I know about the fuel line and how scarce the parts can be haha.
Everyone is posting theirs so why not share mine!
04 GTO , Easily my favorite car I’ve ever owned. This thing don’t catch to many people’s eyes except for the true car enthusiasts which makes it even better when one recognizes what it is. I’ll never get rid of this. I’ll eventually put some different rims on but she’ll do for now.
Iron is the new Aluminum
Just finished up my Iron 6.0 build. LQ4 block, BTR Stage 2 v2, 243 heads, FAST 90. Crazy how much unshrouding the exhaust valves helps her breath. Feels like a completely different car.
Thought I'd share a photo of the factory dex cool from my 3.8
Pontiac 400 (1967 GTO YS)
Hello, all! I’m in the early stages of a 1966 GTO build. I’m not on a shoestring budget, but I am on a lower-mid budget.
First, I’ll be having some relatively minor rust repair work done by a friend. During that process, we’ll separate the body from the frame for the first time in 60 years to address the floors and frame as needed. We’ll be painting the underside of the body, replacing the body mounts, and stripping and painting the chassis. I’ll be replacing/refurbishing all suspension components, braking components, and the fuel system. Once that’s all done and the body and frame are back together, but before the front end is reassembled, I’ll put in the motor/transmission. The car already has a Moser M9 installed but no motor or transmission. We’ll also be rewiring from front to back during this first phase.
Anyway, I purchased a 400 (YS code) from a ‘67 GTO this week. It was running before being pulled out for an LS swap. It has 670 heads and Ram Air exhaust manifolds. No intake/carb. Good compression and seems to be in pretty good shape overall. I’d rather not do a full rebuild right now so that I can spend money on getting the car running so that I can be driving it while working on it over the next year or two. Basically, my plan is to do all of the mechanical/undercarriage/floors and rust work up-front and then do the cosmetic bodywork and interior over time while driving it. And then, at some point, really build this motor into a beast. I realize that may not work out if the motor doesn’t cooperate, but that’s the plan.
With that in mind, how would you approach cleaning this motor up, resealing it, and just running it as is for now if it were you? What lower-cost things might you do to it while it’s out of the car to increase performance? What specs would you check, and what issues would make you stop and do a full rebuild with machine work and the works?
I’ve done almost everything else on these cars to some degree, but I’ve never built an engine by myself. So input is welcome here. Thank you.
Entering 1965! Catalina 2+2
I can’t say for sure when the “small” Pontiacs (Tempest and GTO) were added to the Fitzpatrick and Van Kaufman illustrations used in national ads instead of photographic pieces, but I explained under the 1961 title in a previous post that except for one experimental 1961 rendering, Tempest ads used just photography for years.
It very possible that 1965 was the first year for Tempest illustrations at least nationally, but there was also a large full-line dealer brochure for ‘65 that had dozens of Fitz and Van Illustrations.
Some say that the 1965 Pontiacs were the best styled, inside and out.
1968 Pontiac GTO in Factory Starlight Black | Cherry Bombs Classic Car Show 2026
This gorgeous 1968 Pontiac GTO rolled into the Cherry Bombs Classic Car Show in Londonderry, New Hampshire wearing its factory Starlight Black paint. The Endura nose, hood scoops, and clean Hardtop lines make it one of the most recognizable muscle cars of the era.
Would you keep it in Starlight Black, or would you choose another original 1968 GTO factory color?
