My wife and I were remodeling our kitchen, going with a more vintage style, and we didn't like the thought of a new stainless steel range hood. So we decided to disassemble our original 1970's hood and find a local powdercoater to give it a fresh look that matched our new kitchen. We're THRILLED with the results! Wanted to share because we researched whether this was possible/if anyone had done it and didn't find any results. [Color is Atlas Copper from Prismatic]
How much did you pay to have your rims power coated black? I was quoted $1150 out the door to paint the rims black and have the calipers liquid painted red. Is this a decent price or overpriced? My rim size is 18 inches
Hi, I'm Artur and I've been running a powder coating shop in Poland for 15 years. A while back I decided to start a blog where I share what I've learned, aimed at people who are just getting into powder coating and trying to run a shop well.
When I was starting out, it was hard to find real, practical guidance online — I mostly learned by trial and error, often at my own expense.
I recently published a post on powder coating aluminum wheels — how it's done here in Europe. I think it can help beginners avoid some of the mistakes I made early on.
Sharing the link in case it's useful to anyone here: https://powdercoating.blog/en/powder-coating-aluminum-wheels/
I’ve been doing some hobby powder coating in my home shop for a few years now. Mostly small car parts and antiques. Recently picked up a new customer that is wanting larger projects done and since I’ve pretty much out grown my small smoker oven, it’s time to build a new one. Thinking of doing something that is 5’Hx3’Wx2’D. I figure this will fit most anything that I’d be asked to powder coat. Any suggestions on if this is too small or too big for a garage application? I’ll probably be running 2 heating elements like the type found in electric smokers.
Big shoutout to u/Lightarmorovens , great customer service, the oven does great work. Took some time to get used to the controller but overall it heats up well and holds heat. Highly recommend
Hi,
I am relatively new to powder coating, but have two Eastwood PCS-250 powder coat guns and a growing collection (25+) of compatible bottles with various powders. I am having some difficulty getting matte powders (from Prismatic Powders) to spray consistently. I can achieve a decent finish on one side of a flat panel, but almost always the back side and it does not seem to make much difference if I spray the front side first or the back side first. Inevitably, the front side usually ends up with at least a small area of cod-eyes or small wells as shown in the pictures. I originally thought these might be areas where the flattener in the powder was not mixing well, but now I am not so sure.
Questions:
Thanks!
Had a client wanting to get close to the oem color. We sprayed a base coat of epoxy primer, ultra charcoal, then a 15% tinted clear, what do you guys think?
My settings were what I normally would do a reshoot, I changed kv/ua up and down but it still came out looking like shit
I want to change the color of my GT4 wheels to the silver OEM. Mine have the Platinum grey, and want the brilliant silver. Last pic is my car
I'm new to powder coating, have been blacking out parts for a motorcycle restoration I'm working on using the Eastwood hot coat system. Been getting decent results but this wheel hub came out so damn good I just had to share. That's all. Cheers 🍻
Does anyone know what enkei uses to color the center of their J10’s in grey? trying to remove and polish for a more silver look than this
I have someone who wants to trade this bassani road rage for some detachable saddlebags (that I plan to replace eventually anyways). My concern is the scuff on the head pipe, and it’s a little worn. Other than that, it seems like a no brainer and nothing a decent cerakote applicator couldn’t fix up.
Thoughts?? Seem worth it? My bags are some leather OEM quick detach bags. Plan to replace them with some leather pros or equal sooner than later. Bike currently has stock headers and some slip ons.
Hi all, just started with powdercoating
Bycicle frames and strut bars work good and get a clean finish, yet with rims it wont get to get good
I dont have the budget yet for a striptank, so I just a sandblaster I blasted it, then coated it. And then it came out like this
Other parts also were done in that way, yet only rims get out like this
I do get shocking sounds when coating, but with other products I ddint get this kind of finish
What can it be?
Hi guys i’m thinking of powder coating my rims. My car came from the dealer with like a dark grey rim color. I’m thinking of powder coating them black. Do you guys think it looks better black or grey? i personally think grey looks better black but i would like to hear your opinions!! Also how much does Powder coating cost for broncos? Super excited for this mod!!

Between June and September, our coating projects see a 35% failure rate. Not because of bad powder - but because humidity kills the application process.
THE PROBLEM: Moisture = coating bubbles and peeling - Humidity + dust = contamination - Longer curing = delayed delivery - Extra rework = lost profit
THE SOLUTION:
Time Your Coating - Early morning (5-7 AM) has lowest humidity
Control Environment - Use industrial dehumidifiers (target: <60% RH)
Prep Properly - Blow compressed air on every part before coating
Choose Right Powder - Epoxy for wet climates, Polyester for standard
Test Batch - Do 5-10 pieces first to verify conditions
REAL CASE:
Aluminum window fabricator in Delhi had 40% coating failures in July.
Changed 2 things: moved coating to 6 AM + added dehumidifier. Result: ZERO failures in next 50 projects.
Most fabricators don't realize the powder is only 30% of the success. The other 70% = application process, environment, and technique.

I have exterior aluminum deck railing installed about 4.5 years ago in NW Washington State. I paid extra for the railing to be primed before black powder coating.
The coating is now peeling/delaminating in various locations. Under the failed coating there is gray/white oxidation on the aluminum. I’ve attached photos of the railing, exposed aluminum, and underside of a peeled flake.
Question for powder coaters/metal finishers: does this look like it was actually primed before powder coating? What lifespan should I expect from “industry standard” powdercoating? What is the likely cause of failure?
The affected areas are on a lightly used, shaded, north facing deck, miles from any ocean water. No salt exposure, moderate climate.
Edit: I’ve also seen some blistering/delamination in locations remote from the SS fasteners. Unfortunately Reddit doesn’t allow edits to add those photos.
Hi all, hope you all doing well
I am looking for a decent paint stripper that doesnt break the bank I am located in europe and blasting the rims wont seem to get me a good enough finish, do you have any recommendation?
Time isnt an issue, so if its something that needs 2 hours or so to remove the paint, than that isnt an issue
Can anyone tell me by looking at these photos if this is powder coated or painted? I’m looking to have my daughter’s bicycle either powder coated or painted. The 2nd and 3rd photos show an area damaged. I used acetone on a q tip to see if it would come off and the red paint does transfer onto the q tip. Not sure if that helps or not.
So I am making steel roses. Some of the pieces are very close and the faraday effect is definitly causing problems. Could I use an artist brush to move the coating into those areas? Will try to post a picture when I get home
