5g sucks, LTE is okay
5g is really slow these days.
I tried multiple times! Not a placebo effectL
if i manually switch to LTE only mode, then internet becomes fast

For a few months now, every time I open the Public Mobile app, there are multiple prompts to check out Koodo post-paid service.
Okay, fine, I check it out, and the offers are always worse than my current plan. So whatever, not interested.
But this has me wondering if they’re trying to get rid of Public Mobile. Are Koodo customers getting offers to switch to Public Mobile, or is this only going one-way?
I’m happy with Public Mobile. Why would they encourage me to look into switching? If I was doing that I’d be looking at all options, including other carriers. Seems to me it would make more sense to just leave me alone and keep taking my money, instead of putting ideas in my head about switching.
The only way it makes sense to me is if they want people off Public Mobile.
Moving from ON to NWT in the next couple of weeks for work. I need to switch to an NWT numbe for work purposes. Would it be better to open a new account with telus and just close my public mobile one? I was thinking of the hassle of updating numbers and 2FAs especially with banks. Also, company is paying for the plan so might as well take advantage and switch over to get a phone with it. That's why i cant just switch numbers within public mobile.
Thoughts?
I use a 4G phone, although Public Mobile is informing me that as of June 15, 2026 I'll have to pay a $5 increase to continue to use my phone, as it current is connected as a 3G phone.
Since Public Mobile placed me on this 3G network, I'd like to hear from Public Mobile as to why they are informing me of something to which they have done.
Im Canadian and travelling to Spain and Portugal very soon. Ill be travelling for about two weeks. Public doesn't offer any service outside Canada and the US from my understanding. Does anyone have any advice on what I should do? I mostly want data, calling and messaging is optional. I was going to use another provider for the month maybe but then I won't need Public, but I also don't want to lose them or my number and can I have two eSIMs at once?
Bought a new phone. Wanted to activate service on new phone. Downloaded PM app. Purchased a new eSim at 0$. Got prompt to activate. New phone instantly activated PM service and phone number, and old phone was deactivated seconds after.
Despite a scary "something went wrong" message after buying the new eSim, everything was so seamless.
It took like 2 minutes.
Impressed.
Message from PM:
Public Mobile update: Your device uses our 3G network. Starting June 15, 2026, you will see a $5/mo 3G usage price increase on your bills if you continue using this device. Your monthly price will change from $35 to $40.
Switch to a 4G LTE/5G device to avoid this amount on your bill starting on your following renewal. You can cancel your subscription without penalty until 30 days after the effective date of this change.
For more information: publicmobile.ca/sl/0t4JmF5Pv9
However, having a OnePlus 7T that is LTE capable, why am I getting a message insinuating that my phone uses their 3G network and therefore will be incurring an additional $5 fee monthly.
How can I drop my 3G access or show that my phone uses LTE and keep my bill from increasing?
May not want to rush that 3G removal...
Hi all, using an iPhone 17 and all of a sudden experiencing very slow data connections, call wasn’t connecting initially. Call connects now, but having trouble connecting to towers/weird switching going on. Toggled airplane mode on and off, and restarted phone. Somewhat still inconsistent. Seems speeds are throttled and I’m nowhere near my data cap. Drove around, same issue. Not a new device.
Anyone else?
Speed now has price tiers
Public Mobile’s current plan lineup makes the choice pretty clear: 4G plans start lower, while 5G plans add bigger data buckets and Canada-U.S.-Mexico coverage.
On the 4G side, the plans shown range from $22/month with talk and text add-ons to $30/month for 20GB. On the 5G side, the lineup starts at $35/month for 25GB and goes up to $50/month for 175GB.
The interesting angle is not just the pricing. Public Mobile is separating customers by real usage: light users can stay cheap on 4G, while heavier users and travellers are nudged toward 5G.
The first few months service was great. A couple weeks ago I noticed that things were taking forever to load on my phone. Thought it might just be a little glitch or something but it’s still happening.
Has anyone else noticed theirs slowing right down?
Anyone else having issues login problems this morning. I have 2 accounts and can NOT get into one of them. Have tried everything, changing passwords and even forgot email but nothing works. Phone is good.
