How much context/information knowing about the old movies bring?

I like the mix of old [black and white] movies. It's very stylish and I think is an insight on Sugar way of thinking in the same way old tv was used in the 90's sitcom Dream-on.

Sometimes I recognize a few actors but I'm wondering if (besides the producers wife movie) there are all real?

I'm currently watching episode 7 and when he's talking about the event of the previous episode at Stallings' house there a scene from an old movie where a character look himself in the mirror and I was wondering if knowing about this particular film would had some context or clues. I paid more attention to this one because I didn't seems to clash a little with what I speaking about and the few flashbacks.

I hope this makes sense...

Was S2 A Troubled Production?

I’ve just finished S2 and while I enjoyed most of it it’s a step down in quality from S1 -I know the show-runner changed for S2 but can’t find any info on why this happened other than fluffy PR stuff.
Does anyone know what happened with the original show-runner and cinematographer?

Did this flicker bother anyone else?

Just started season two and episode one right before he’s says “Plant Earth” there’s a flicker at the bottom left. I recorded it in slo-mo to see it was a lady moving around the building. Just made me wonder how many people spotted it.

Edit: Funny thing is I realized after posting I didn’t record the entirety of the blip. If you watch further than what I’ve posted she pops up on the other side of the structure and around it a few times.

Spoiled by Gemini after S1E1!!!

Ok just wanted to rant.

Just started S1 today. Currently on S1E4.

I noticed this show several months ago must have been before season 2 because I thought I recalled there was only one season listed and I thought maybe it got canceled or something, so I was curious to find out for sure how many seasons there were for sure.

So I use Google search instead of asking chat GPT, like I might usually do.

Google Gemini summary basically says there's two seasons and then says "noir thriller revolving around a private eye that is [THE MASSIVE SPOILER]"

So, I'm still enjoying the heck out of this but as of S1E4 there is nothing about the spoiler yet, and I'm just wondering how much more I would enjoy this without that knowledge. Fml

I was rewatching Season 1; ep 2 and I said to myself… “Surely not?!?” Lol, I thought it was Charlotte keeping tabs on Sugar…. But just turned out to be somebody who looks a little like her.

The Season 2 Complaints Department

I’m not even going to get into all the flaws of this season, what a waste. What frustrates me the most is Melanie’s absence, considering she’s the only one who knows about Sugar., There was so much potential to develop their relationship in an interesting way. It’s as if all the characters from season one were just completely swept aside.

Just to be clear, I still love the show. I think it has so much potential.

"The Summer Wind"

Apologies for the Youtube ad, but I couldn't help but be struck by the S2 closing scenes with "The Summer Winds." I can't think of a more perfect song to close the season on such an upbeat, optimistic note. ("This is home. . . " )

Most of you weren't born when the film "The Pope of Greenwich Village" came out in 1984, but the vivid image of Micky Rourk's swaying shoulders to the beat of Sinatra's crooning has stuck with me that long and really resonated when the track came up for Sugar. . .

The producers of this show are geniuses . . .

Charlotte

I liked the character dynamic between Sugar and Charlotte and I think Colin and Laura have a good onscreen chemistry. I hope she reappears as femme fatale in future seasons.

PLEASE tell me there's going to be S3

I absolutely love this show. And have since the first frame of S1. I love the neo noir, the fantastically weird tie-in with sci-fi, the intertwining plots. . .most of all - I love Colin Farrel's John Sugar.

I don't know if he likes playing this role - but goddam he's good at it and it looks to me like he's having the time of his life.

I'm not sure why it's not on more people's radar. Hope it gets enough views to live on.

Man, sometimes this show is just on a whole other level entirely

Just yesterday I watched all of season 1; and I’m now working my way through season 2. Just about Galway’s through episode 5, and I’m just in awe of this show’s writing. I mean yeah, it’s generally pretty great; but some moments really stand out.

Like when Danny gets called into Teddy‘s office, after what Danny did in the restaurant. When Danny says to Teddy he’s gonna punch him in the face if he keeps talking shit about Ji; and Teddy just says, “fair enough.” Then the scene ends.

It’s small, it’s relatively quick; but that shit is fucking brilliant. Not just because it feels like a genuinely real interaction, but because almost every other show would either have Teddy continue to bash Ji, Danny would hit him, and get thrown out and be in an even worse spot then before. Or have had Teddy be like “fine, fine; but you gotta be careful, keep your cool more” or something like that.

Instead, it’s just a simple little scene, that does mean a little for Danny’s character; but is ultimately pretty inconsequential. Doesn’t have much to do with the overall plot, doesn’t push the story anywhere. And doesn’t rely on cliched, overdone storytelling. It just feels like a real moment, and does a lot to show how the series portrays its world.

Just…truly incredible stuff.

Djen's technology

The fantastical technology that Djen introduces is a simplistic plot device, suggesting that solving our environmental problems is a technological problem rather than a moral one. Our problem is not a lack of technology, it is that we have a class of people putting financial profit above the wellbeing of the planet and the human population. It reminds me of a movie I saw years ago where the super-duper secret energy technology that people were fighting over, turned out to be a fancy electrolysis machine. I hope that season 3, if it happens, will be better written than the end of season 2 suggests.
