S2E2 does anyone know where they film this

Seen this building with the big round exterior full of windows be used in a couple of different shows and movies. I just can’t figure out what it is. Does anyone know? I’m just curious because obviously it’s a beautiful building. It’s somewhere in LA? Any input would be much appreciated thanks.

Surprised nobody has mentioned this Cameo! (Contains Spoilers)

Watching season 2 episode 3 and seeing my favorite antagonist Lalo Salamanca at 24:40 gave me chills! (Spoiler)

For years I missed any spoilers, I just watched Season 1 for the first time.

Just watched Season 1, somehow over the years I have managed to miss any spoilers.

Thought I was watching something along the lines of Bosch, Goliath, Ray Donovan, Perry Mason, L.A. Confidential etc. But I kept thinking along the way that something's not right here or he is having a drug induced hallucinations.

As a fan of Fringe, Sugar is a real treat.

Liked the Man Who Fell To Earth vibe at times and how the movie clips and also music cues (The Thing etc.).

Season 2 awaits.

S2E1: Sugars best line

I thought this was Sugar's best line so far, "I miss my dog."

Without a second thought, Sugar hands Val $500 to bring his car back. Then he calmly waits for her on the street. Erin Wu asks, "Do you really think she's coming back with your car?" Then she leaves.

As Sugar watches a woman walking her dog, he looks up at the sky and says, "I miss my dog." Only afterward does he quietly add to himself, "Is she really not coming back with my car?" As if it was the furthest thing from his mind.

Later, he moves into the house in the hills in the middle of the night, only to discover the power hasn't been turned on. Most of us would be rattling off a stream of expletives, but not Sugar.

I've been enjoying the many examples of Sugar's amazing calm. And, of course, his compassion towards humankind.

Sugar is a great Superman story

Alien comes to Earth, tries to help people, is very strong and competent but more than that is just a really great guy who sees the best in people and makes them want to be better.

Sugar is now a naive, careless, and weak alien who is lucky and still not dead.

It's totally unconvincing! I mean, it's an alien who has superpowers and has been planet hopping for breakfast. And now it's a dumb reckless being with no sense of danger who never uses his powers even in danger!?

Classic film reference flashes

Is anyone keeping track of the flash cuts to classic films in each episode and the context of their use?

I just watched s2e3 and can’t figure out why Citizen Kane was used just before On The Waterfront under dialogue about siblings being complicated. The Malloy brothers, sure, but Charles Foster Kane was an only child, no?

Edit: The clip referenced was from The Stranger, not Citizen Kane, but I think the intent of the secondary question posed still applies.

My Djen Theory

I think Thorpe handed Djen over to the ex Senator and that is how 1) the powerful people found out about the aliens and 2) related to why he is pivoting to open a tech company. There has to be some tie in, otherwise Sugar would be working 3 mysteries and that seems like too much. I think each season will be a new mystery with the thread of fighting the bad powerful humans and saving/avenging his sister being a through storyline.

My thoughts on rewatch of S1

Doing a rewatch while already know the twist is extremely rewarding. There's so much going on that builds the fabric of the twist that I obviously didn't understand in my first watch. But now, I get all the things I just found confusing and almost surrealist the first time I saw this.

This is such a fantastic show, Even much, much better on a rewatch too.

I'm 2 Episodes into the 2nd Season, I'm not liking how the new showrunner is pushing the sci fi elements deeper into the background and turning the show into just another "stylish detective" show.

I still like the character and the writing.

But I don't like how they>!dumped the whole "Henry & Where is Djen?" storyline and killed Henry at the beginning of the first episode. !<

I guess I'm worried they're going to just screw up something amazing.

Anyone else concerned?

Season 2 feels like a big step up to me so far.

I caught up with the show in the last week because I was intrigued by the big twist which I already knew about going in. The first season though I'd only rate around a 6/10. Stylistically the handheld camera and slightly disjointed editing seemed as if it was trying to emulate The Man Who Fell to Earth directed by Nicolas Roeg which is obviously a big influence on the show, but in practice it felt unfocused and slightly disorienting and the actual lighting was kinda flat and not cinematic. The writing was a bit vague too, in terms of the mystery and the characters.

This season the framing is more composed and the lighting has more contrast and shadows, the mystery feels more particular and has a sense of verisimilitude with more detail. Hopefully it keeps it up.

Sugar has to be the kindest protagonist on TV right now.

In most detective shows they speed through grieving family members, him doing the dishes for her is the most empathetic thing I've seen a main character do in a long time.

Tony Dalton

After Tony Dalton turned up in Better Call Sall in the later series and totally stole the show, I'm so excited to see him appear in Sugar as lieutenant Ray Vega. I've got goose bumps.
