Engine getting sweeter by the mile...
Hey guys,
I’m about to take my motorcycle exam on a Suzuki GSX-8S, but I'm a complete beginner and have never owned this bike.
I need to point out the fluids for the inspector. Can any owner please share clear photos of exactly where the coolant reservoir and the rear brake fluid reservoir (the one hidden behind the plastic frame cover) are located?
A close-up and a zoomed-out photo would save my life. Thanks!
Got my new taillight installed from TST. Looks so much clean than what was on when I bought the bike. Next got to get a new seat. What's the consensus on Corbin seats, are they worth the price tag?
Also does any of y'all's have an idea of how I can bracket this exhaust. Looks like the previous owner welded it on and didn't secure it. It holds but makes a "tinging" sound constantly while I'm riding
I'm going to be buying my first bike soon, and it's between a 2025 Ninja 500 SE ABS and a 2024 GSX 8-S. Both are new and within $500 of each other at my local dealership. Both under $6k.
Is the GSX-8S okay as a beginner/first bike? I've watched a ton of stuff on YouTube and it seems to be split. Some saying it's too much power and the on/off throttle feel not being very smooth wouldn't be a good fit for a beginner. Others say it's a great bike for a beginner or an experienced rider. I like the idea of the modes, I can keep it in C as I build confidence, but I'm also concerned it will be too much just starting out. But I love the way it looks, and I feel like it's something I could grow with.
What do you all think? What is some owner feedback on the bike for someone who may be looking to buy one as a first bike?
- I know people will say buy used. The used market within 100 miles of me is either something from 1999-2007 for $3k or 2018-2021 models with 8,000+ miles for only $1-1.5k less than what I'm looking at for brand new. It's a bad used market here. It's really only between these two specific bikes that the dealer has.
I saw an ad for mesh vests meant to go under ballistic armor to improve airflow and cooling. (example of the sort of thing linked). My back always gets super sweaty under my backplate when riding with a backpack and I was wondering if something like this might help. Any thoughts? Would it decrease the safety of the gear at all?
Named her Kiddo cause she is hella Kill Bill coded with the black n yellow!
Had the jacket before I got the bike, but I’m so glad it matches perfectly. Figured I’d share some pix from the first ride through the mountain roads to break it in.
Changed the spark plugs today at 7200 miles. I know it was 300 miles early but I have a big trip this weekend and I wanted to do it before. They were pretty much spotless. Tbh I think you can very safely go 15k-20k miles before changing them.
A week in and I’ve gotten the long tail removed and some frame sliders. Did all the work myself so it was good to learn a bit about the body of the bike. I spent more time trying to find dropped bolts in the frame than on the actual build itself 😅. Lessons learned. Will do a longer post about it soon I suppose.
Fast twisties, perfect for how nimble this thing is (just wish it was raining less often)
Only mods I have are heated grips, bar end mirror, and crash bars everything else is stock (except also quadlock, insta360 mount, and usb C port)
Hi,
I am looking for a full system to replace the current, not desired sound of the stock exhaust.
As I live in Europe it needs to be Euro 5+ certified, so also DB-Killer and CAT installed.
I pinpoint it to the 3 choices.
The Arrow and Shark cost nearly the same, around a 100€ difference. Mivv was around 300€ cheaper.
Which would you suggest? It is hard to decide, as there is no good comparison from youtube videos for legal options available (at least I could not find one).
Just showing off my 8R, had it since February and it’s my first bike. Very happy with it and it drives super smooth, currently it’s still restricted for A2 in my country but next month I’ll switch it back since I’ll be old enough to do so.
Hopefully next week my arrow exhaust will arrive 🙏🏻
Has anyone found an SDS-II equivalent that is capable of the active control functions?
I am looking for a new bike to be fun and (relatively) comfortable. I have come a long way, starting from sport bikes and sporty nakeds to ultimately land in the retro segment. Tbh, it's not for the looks, but rather the upright ergos and the lack of transformer-designs.
All of them - GSX8T, XSR900, Z900RS, Speed Twin 1200 - can be had for roughly the same price range used (~8'000 - 9'000 dineros). All of them are wildly different motors.
I have tested them all, and still cannot decide. Tbf, the 8T test has been a few weeks back.
Anyway. What made you choose the 8T over the others, if you did? And if not, which one would you choose and why?
I know some may be tempted to go by looks, but I do have specific concerns with each of them. Feel free to tell me how wrong I am. But personally, I have the hardest time to decide which compromise to accept.
XSR 900: Sporty seating position and motor, while fun, is not chill to cruise on. Love it for canyon carving, but not for a nice chill Sunday ride (which is maybe 30% of my riding). Bar risers could fix the position, but that's only a maybe. Also looks can be meh. Some days I love it. Other days I don't know. Too much power for my taste. Riding modes help.
Z900RS: Love the design, but being in my mid 30s, it feels slightly too old for me. I know it makes not sense. No IMU. No riding modes. No QS. Snatchy throttle that can be super annoying in slow city traffic, of which there is a lot here. Expensive given what it does not have and others do.
Speed Triple 1200: Lots of torque, too much for the way I ride. Double exhausts make easy chain maintenance a chore. High triumph service cost. + I have a bad history with the brand.
GSX8T: Non adjustable suspension. Plus enough ride, but it would be neat to firm it up a bit more. Great motor. Design concerns similar to the XSR. Some days I love it, other days I would not care to look at it. Seems to be the beige blend out of all the 3 models above, while being the most expensive one too.
Was searching for the Yellow one, but found a great looking white one. Love them all.
