r/TaskRabbit

It’s real

It’s real

Been on TaskRabbit for around 5 years. 500+ completed tasks, 240+ five-star reviews, perfect rating the whole time. Apparently none of that means anything.
They banned my account over a “policy violation” but wouldn’t tell me what task it was or what policy I supposedly broke. I appealed it, and their response was basically, “You can still get hired through your direct TaskRabbit link.” They even told me to keep my availability open in case a repeat client books me or to share my direct hire link.
What a joke. I think I’ve had maybe one repeat client actually book me through the app in all those years.
I’m just glad I always gave customers my business card and contact info after jobs and focused on building my own business instead of depending on one platform. At least now I’m not starting from scratch.

I Finally Stopped Building TaskRabbit’s Business and Started Building My Own

Today I permanently deleted my TaskRabbit account, and I couldn’t be happier about it. No one forced me to leave. I wasn’t deactivated. I simply decided I was done investing my time and talent into a platform that I don’t own.

When I first joined, I thought it was a great opportunity. It helped me get customers and gain experience, and for that I’m thankful. But the longer I stayed, the more I felt like the system wasn’t designed to help contractors build lasting businesses. It was designed to keep us dependent on the platform.

Everything felt stacked against the people actually doing the work. You can spend years earning great reviews, yet you’re still competing for visibility you don’t control. Many contractors online have complained about inconsistent search rankings, changing policies, rising fees, limited transparency around how jobs are distributed, and difficulty building direct relationships with customers. Whether or not everyone has the same experience, those concerns were impossible for me to ignore because they matched how I felt.

The biggest realization I had was that every hour I spent improving my profile was an hour I wasn’t investing in my own company. Every five star review made their platform more valuable. Every repeat customer strengthened their ecosystem instead of my own brand. I was helping build someone else’s business while mine stayed in the background.

So I changed course.

I formed my own LLC and committed to building a real home improvement business. I built my own website, started learning local SEO, invested in marketing, and focused on creating something I actually own. Now every customer I earn is my customer. Every review strengthens my reputation. Every dollar I spend on advertising builds long-term equity in my business instead of disappearing into someone else’s marketplace.

The biggest difference isn’t even the money. It’s the freedom. I no longer worry about an algorithm changing overnight or whether a platform decides how visible my business should be. My success is tied to the quality of my work, my reputation, and the effort I put into growing my company.

I’m not writing this to tell anyone they should quit TaskRabbit. If it’s helping you reach your goals, that’s great. But if your long-term dream is to own a business, don’t let a marketplace become your entire business model. Use it as a stepping stone, not a destination.

Deleting my account wasn’t the end of my business.

It was the day I finally started building one that belongs to me.

Got a repeat client? Give them your number, ASAP.

LIsten, taskers, anyone with half a brain knows by now that our days are numbered on this app - especially if you're decent, hardworking, and above all, long-term (you've been on TR for over a year). TR will find a way to get rid of you, one way or another. I've personally known those it has happened to and you can read countless stories in this forum from others. You will be lucky if you get any explanation at all. Generally, the reason will be some vague "policy violation" that is never specified. Why do they do this? We don't know, definitively. Some have suggested the reason is to make room for fresh faces and to keep prices competitively low. Who knows? But what we do know, definitively, is that they will eventually get rid of us. So, if you have that repeat client that you've developed a solid rapport with, give them your contact info NOW. Make that connection before you try to log in to TR one morning and you've been axed. Don't wait. Do it (cautiously, of course) with as many clients as you possibly can. We all know what's up now and we're not going to take it lying down.

Before I book a Tasker

Some of the electronics in my apartment have been acting a little funky. For example, my Xbox just won't turn on now. I had to get a new laptop. Lastly, I had to get a new microwave because our microwave just stopped working.

I went to go check the outlets in the kitchen. I've attached the video here. Can someone tell me, from an electrician's perspective, how bad this is before I get a Tasker to come over here and help out?

Thanks in advance

Goodbye I guess..

Five years. Thousands of jobs. Hundreds of reviews. Countless weekends, holidays, and evenings spent helping strangers in their homes.
I believed that if I worked hard, treated clients well, and kept improving, that would matter. In the end, it didn’t end the way I hoped.
I’m disappointed by how little transparency I received, but I’m done asking for it.
The lesson I’ll carry forward isn’t about TaskRabbit. It’s about ownership. Never build your entire career on a platform you don’t control.
I’m moving on to interior design, space planning, real estate staging, furniture sourcing, and the work I’ve spent the last year studying. I’ve completed a 270-hour interior design course, immersed myself in furniture history, antiques, color theory, and showroom relationships. That’s where my future is.
I don’t wish anyone on TaskRabbit any harm. I hope the platform works for those who stay. But it isn’t for me anymore, and I’m done looking back.

Anyone have issues with follow up after filing a service issue? The support center reached out and. Supplied all information. I have asked for updates for the past week and received none.

Customer Support Is The Worst

Hey all,

I'm a relatively new tasker. I made an account about a month ago and immediately got a TOS violation and a restriction as soon as my background check went through and I made my account. It took me two weeks with customer support to figure out what I did wrong exactly. Apparently it had do with how my profile mentioned rates. It took two weeks for someone to tell me that. Once i figured it out I fixed it. Flash forward to today. I showed up to a client's building and couldn't get access. I cancelled the job after working with the client via the chat for over 30 min. I made a phone call, they gave me multiple key codes and nothing work. So, I cancelled due to unresponsive client as per the advice on some older threads here. took a pic of the front door, communicated it with the client and my cancellation fee went to pending. 20 min later it disappeared and no money was in my earnings section for it. I reached out to customer support and because of that original violation on my account I'm not entitled to a cancellation fee. I'm fuming over it.

Account has been limited

My account got limited because a client marked me as a no show.

I was at a weed removal job which ended up taking longer than expected and the area I was in had poor cell service so my messages to the client informing her I would be 30 mins late weren’t going through.

As I’m driving to her address I notice she had canceled. Im only five minutes away at this point so I decide to still go and I was able to speak to the client and explain what happened. She apologized for marking me as a no show and she even called support to try to have them remove the no show from my account. She rehired me for the next day and left me a 5 star review.

At the beginning of the month I get an email saying my account has been limited due to a violation of the policies. I have completed over 300 tasks and only have 5 star reviews. Has anyone else been in this situation and able to get their account back to normal? I feel like permanently limiting my account is extremely harsh.

Perfect example of support making things up.

I noticed recently I wasn't getting Weekly Tasker Success invites, tried to email my assigned manager, no response. So I contacted support. Heres what support said (supported by screenshots):

This is only for new taskers, I had too many tasks completed to get anymore invites. Called them out with a screen shot of the email that specifically states other experienced taskers would share insite, the success calls have nothing to do with being new. Followed up by emailing another manager and got a response that support is absolutely wrong.

The making stuff up is kind of wild TBH...

What did I get myself into

I’m a new Tasker going into my second week and this feels like a little much. I told her I can’t do this in and hour and she said maybe 2 and then sent more “tasks” this isn’t all mounting though. What do ya’ll do?

u/Difficult_Series7684 — 6 days ago

You can really be deactivated for anything

I showed up to a moving task inside of this joke of a situation. The loading dock had some other truck inside of it. A bunch of contractors were crowding the the whole entrance. The client took forever to reserve the elevator, and he looked like he just woke up.

I walked in and noticed that nothing was packed or ready to go. Just walk away.

Don't assume common sense. Don't assume anything with this app.

TR can’t get their …. Together

I think I earned my Elite badge for July after a grueling June. Today TaskRabbit updated me to let me know I made Elite for JUNE????
They argued I didn’t make June because of “ other Taskers performance”. That’s fine. But don’t come at me a month too late to Congratulate me you idiots

What do you not like about Taskrabbit/ Angi?

I’m working on an app and curious what kind of friction many users here face. I have faced a lot of different pain points and curious on everyone else’s views of it too.

Do not take jobs with clients like these

This isn’t exactly TR (it’s HS), but just wanted to share this with everyone. DO NOT take jobs from a client who wants to decide for you that something is simple or not complicated and shouldn’t take very long.

Keep in mind they also chose the wrong job category. General contractor category normally comes with an $88+tax lead fee (homeowners are not told this upfront).

They are either:

  1. Masquerading as knowledgeable to pre-empt actual rip off quotes

  2. Basically looking for charity

  3. Doing

  4. the expectations management when you should be the one doing so.

My take? Electrician abandoned the job because client was likely a monster. Because that is not how I would leave a pendant light with a mounting plate protruding from the side of the junction box cover.

If it’s so simple, it really begs the question: “why don’t you do it yourself?”

Algorithms! Yes, Again!

Something has changed again 😃. They’ve started putting new taskers at the top of the list (they already tried this in the first half of 2025).
What’s the point of that? Are you trying to push your experienced taskers off the platform and replace them with new people who charge less, over and over again? I honestly don’t understand.
I’ve been a Tasker for three years, and I know at least 10 people in my category who have always worked hard and consistently stayed at the top of the rankings. Why have I and those people suddenly been pushed down the list?
What’s going on?

Veteran of Thumbtack, looking to make the move into Task Rabbit, what do I need to know and what should I look out for?

Hey everyone! I'm currently a professional handyman looking to make extra cash in my spare time, I figured doing some tasks on Task Rabbit would work out great! Before I get into it, what's it like from the tasker end? Is it worth it? Do you end up making money? Do you have any tips on how I should use this app as a professional, things to look out for, etc?

I'm a wedding officiant on the side (Yeah, not related to handymanning in any way, but it's fun and easy!), and I'm listed on Thumbtack, so I'm no stranger to potentially predatory gig work apps.

Cleaning: How to weed out bad clients?

I now have a 4.2 star rating due a bad one/star review. Mind you I’m a new tasker. This client hired me the night before. Even though I have in my bio that I require 24 hours notice. I decided to take the job because I needed the money. I asked clarifying questions such “is there any heavy buildup that might require more time?” The only thing they mentioned was the stove top. I also asked the client when this needs to be done and they said that it needs to be done by 10 AM, only giving me 1 1/2 hour to clean. What they did not say was that this was for a move out. The house was covered in trash, food, and clothes. And she just sat out in her car the entire cleaning and instead helping to pick up her items off the floor so I could sweep the floor and mop. Additionally, the kitchen was heavily soiled, covered in spoiled food, grease, dirty dishes, and empty alcohol bottles. Quite frankly it was hazardous conditions. I think she thought I was going to help her pack all of her clothes and items. I have tried my best to weed out customers like this, but this is not the first time that I’ve had to deal with someone who was not truthful about the condition of their house. For experienced tasks, what are the questions that you ask to weed these people out? also, do you have any policies in place where you charge the client in full if they lie about the conditions of the house? (Mind you I am not shaming anyone for having a dirty house. But they need to be honest.)

Veteran Taskers Need to Start Talking to Each Other

Has anyone else been limited, removed from search, or deactivated recently with little or no explanation?
I’ve been on the platform for years, completed thousands of jobs, maintained strong reviews, and recently found myself dealing with account limitations that I genuinely don’t understand. After talking with other Taskers, I’m starting to wonder how widespread this has become.
I’m not interested in conspiracy theories or ranting. I’m interested in facts.
If you’ve recently:
Been removed from search results
Had your account limited
Been deactivated
Received vague policy warnings
Submitted an appeal and heard nothing back
Or still don’t know exactly what triggered the action
I’d like to hear your experience.
I’m considering organizing a Zoom call for affected Taskers so we can compare notes, identify patterns, and better understand what’s happening. If enough people have experienced similar issues, it may help us determine whether these are isolated incidents or part of a broader trend.
If you’re interested, send me a DM and briefly describe what happened, how long you’ve been on the platform, and whether you’ve received any response from support.
I’m not looking to attack anyone. I just think workers deserve transparency and clear communication when their livelihoods are affected.

P.S. I had a feeling that she would leave a bad review just based on the fact that she lied about the conditions of her house so I took pictures and I’m going to appeal the review and submit the pictures of evidence to taskrabbit. Hopefully they can at least ban her from the app. I mean the house was just really bad.
