Does anyone here actually live in Tigray? If so can they send me videos of the tplf recruiting? Is what the internet showing me true? Or is it fake and propaganda. I would rather ask the people directly before i take any more action regarding this subject.

urgent message from a young person in Tigray.

Please be the voice of the Ethiopian people.

We, the youth, are unable to live in Tigray. Day by day, TPLF militants are torturing us. Many youths are being rounded up by force. We cannot work, and we cannot study. They have taken hold of every aspect of our lives; we have no freedom. They have prevented us from working to support our parents and brothers. Please help us through prayer and by being our voice. We are heading toward death.

If the situation continues like this, for my part, I am ready to end my life. I cannot pick up a gun to kill my brother; we are a generation born from the same mother. Therefore, rather than killing my brother, I choose to kill myself.

and I am very happy that the youth who have the means are moving to Addis Ababa; may God protect them. But for those of us youth who do not have the means to leave, please pray for us. We want to live; we want to live for our mothers, our fathers, our brothers, and ourselves. If not, I am exhausted; the politics are frustrating me so much. by the way I am 20 years old, but I am done with life. I do not want any more suffering. People ask me why I don’t come to Addis Ababa. I would love to go, but I lack the means. I used everything I had to try and work, but I have failed. It is impossible to work and survive in a land without peace, and now I am left with nothing. Since I cannot save my life, I will take my life from this earth soon. I wish love to all people in the world, and love you all.

Stop the youth roundups!!

Stop the war in Tigray!!✋

The Eritreanification of Tigray

My biggest fear was that Tigray would become like Eritrea after gaining independence—ruled by military leaders and surrounded by enemies. But TPLF has gone and allied with Shabia before that could happen, and now it seems to be taking notes from their playbook. Forced conscription occurred throughout the war, but it has now intensified to the point where people are fighting back. The other camp used to say the TPLF is the child of the EPLF; now it’s hard to argue against that.

TPLF has always been a cancer to Tigray since it came to power (that’s my personal belief). At least it had a somewhat believable agenda before the 2020 war, but now it seems to have lost the plot since allying with Shabia. The power-hungry allegations make more sense than ever. We are now heading toward an avoidable all-out war in Tigray, with almost all the youth who can leave fleeing to Addis Ababa while the unfortunate ones left behind are abducted and conscripted.

Antagonizing people who are already going through hell because of TPLF’s previous mistakes is a really poor move by its “masterminds.” Fighting alongside Shabia inside Tigray, after everything Eritrean soldiers did, is a slap in the face to their victims. Now it seems TPLF has also lost political leverage, as the US and EU appear to back Abiy in his next endeavor. This is why I believed in capitulating until his inevitable war with Eritrea. Tigray is now set to become a buffer zone for Shabia to fight off Abiy’s invasion, all because of retards with empty pride leading Tigray.

Western Tigray has become a distant dream as priorities keep changing. Ironically, TPLF has allied with the very people who turned against Abiy the moment he negotiated with them—the same groups that have occupied our land from both sides. What’s the plan after they “win” this war? Fight them again for the land?

Some TPLF generals have even stated that Abiy requested their assistance against Fano, but they refused—only to later fight alongside them. The Amharas were being massacred in Oromia on a weekly basis, yet Fano allied with Abiy at the first opportunity. It would make far more sense to fight with Abiy to remove Fano from our land rather than ally with them for an inevitable future clash. Before anyone attacks me for suggesting an alliance with Abiy, we must face reality. Tigrayans are not fleeing to the Amhara region or Eritrea for safety—they are coming to the capital, even at the risk of prosecution. That’s the predicament the TPLF has put us in because of its earlier blunders while in power (though that’s another story). I guess my fear of Tigray becoming exactly like Eritrea is beginning to materialize even before our independence.

A long rant because I’m pissed.

What do you think about the old Tigray map where they had more eastern areas like in Afar, Wollo and more included in Tigray map?

Do you see these people who used to live in the old Tigray area as tigrayans or similar or do you not see them as Tigrayans? What are your thoughts on this area?

Tigray Secession!! መገንጠል!💀What’s your opinion on this?

"We want to determine our own destiny."

"TPLF leadership has no interest in traveling to A.A or abroad!" - Monjerino
In a press briefing held this evening, Monjorino the head of the TPLF office announced that the Federal Gov’t is currently redeploying its troops from Western Tigray ( welkait) to Eastern Tigray.
During the briefing which was broadcast on Tigray TV, she addressed the U.S. visa restrictions imposed on "hardline" TPLF leaders and members. She argued that these restrictions are not targeting individuals but are an attack on the "principles" of the TPLF. However, she emphasized that the TPLF will never compromise on its core principles.
Monjoriino further noted that they have already informed the US that the TPLF leadership has no interest or intention of traveling to A.A or elsewhere outside of Ethiopia.
She reiterated that the demand of the people of Tigray and the organization remains self-administration and the right to self-determination. She concluded by warning that the US can only secure its interests by working together with them NOT by using intimidation against the TPLF. My Question here, does Tigray self-sufficient already? Do they think about the consequences their people will face?

In a televised speech, General Masho Beyene of the TPLF has, for the first time, admitted that it was the TPLF that started the Tigray War by attacking the Ethiopian National Defense Force Northern Command on November 4, 2020.”

You will see more tegaru just like this slowly crawl back to their senses. TDF/TPLF took the first shots by killing soldiers thoudands of ENDF in their sleep that led to a long bloody war where they would not stop fighting and conscription was going on. It led to a genocide due to the situation worsening and more people joining the rebels due to ENDF/EDF ruthlessness as well as the killing of civIlians which TDF also themselves are accused of because they did retaliations on Amhara and Afar civilians never just surrendering and getting justice from there and negotiating from there which they should have done but did not same exact thing is happening in Amhara now it’s just sad. I don’t like abiy or PP but I stand with people like getachew and others who do not support fighting and will surrender to the feds for the sake of peace and fighting for justice without fighting which is what should happen in a civil society. Now what we must focus on is getting peace and justice for everyone and more we need to worry about the future as well.✌️

Could the port of Sudan become Tigray’s Djibouti(🍑)?

I bet Sudan wouldn’t mind the extra money from the port fees of having all that stuff shipped instead of flown in for a trillion dollars.

ሰነ ፪፩ ፳፩፫ ወፍሪ ኣሉላ በስራዊት ትግራይ | June 28, 2021, The largest military comeback in the 21st century worldwide, Operation Alula

After nearly 8 months of brutal foreign occupation and repeated massacres after massacres the people of Tigray got a sense of happiness as they could go outside freely, wave their flags and celebrate, of course this did not end the genocide, but it played the most important role in changing the outcome of what the genocide was supposed to be planned as. Eternal glory to our martyrs.

If Tigray receives full justice as well as everything else they want like removing abiy and more etc do tegaru still want independence is my question?

How is Tigray going to survive as a country is my question but if that’s what they want I guess. But anyways this questions needs to be solved and solved peacefully because Ethiopia shouldn’t have separatists who are against unity we can have politics and open talks on anything but independence is crossing the line and it should be resolved peacefully. Do most of you here genuinely want nothing to do with Ethiopia no more? I know it’s not like that on the ground but the diaspora loud voices sound very different. We have chance to fix Ethiopia still and we should never lose hope in building Ethiopia in the future and now etc.

A new vision for the habesha people

It’s finally time to acknowledge that Ethiopia can not be a home for the habesha people. Here is my new vision for us, we secede and unite. Tigrigna and Amharic will be the official languages and both will be taught in schools. The capital will be at Mekelle. And we can finally have a place to openly celebrate our shared culture and history. Furthermore, we would be large enough to defend ourselves and prosper as an independent nation.

Did Tigray want independence before the war or after? Know the facts

Tigray did not decide to secede because the damage it was dealt after starting the 2020 war. It's not because "the social contract was broken" between other Ethiopians and Tigrayans. That's was one of the craziest explanation that made its rounds via the words of Tigrayans: that the "social contract was broken" by Ethiopians.

Lies.

From the following, we can be concluded that there was an overall wish for independence in Tigray sooner rather than later. On point, we have the summary of election debate of the main contending parties in Tigray, just before the war.

  1. The Tigray Independence Party (TIP) made it clear that Tigray cannot achieve its aspirations of state-led capitalism and being like Israel or China while under Ethiopia. They stated that Tigray is suffocated, choked, and burdened by Ethiopia, and that Ethiopia needs to be finished off. No surprise with this party. TIP also criticized TPLF for not giving the people of Tigray a referendum about independence back in 1991. This historical reference highlights a longstanding desire for independence. It is also a fact that, upon eliminating government control from Tigray during the Derg era, a portion of TPLF fighters refused to fight beyond the boarders of Tigray, because that's what they've been told was the objective.
  2. Baytona revealed that their eventual goal after a confederacy is independence. They want separation of party and state and criticized the current agricultural policies as not good enough for industrialization. This shows a clear preference for eventual independence.
  3. Sawt advocated for at least an "Iraqi Kurds' style of loose federation" and emphasized independence in urban areas while maintaining state ownership of rural land. Regardless of the dismissal of their position by TIP (not hard core enough I guess), their stance was towards independence.

The debates and positions taken by these parties clearly indicate a strong sentiment for independence in Tigray, and all this was before the war. It is clear that the notion of Ethiopia as a worthy concept has been washed out of the minds of Tegaru, especially those that came of age after TPLF took power. This is the reason why it was so easy to turn on Ethiopia and Ethiopians on a drop of a hat instead of holding accountable the genocidal enterprise called TPLF.

TPLF managed to get elected in the end, of course, but only because they had strategic, operational and logistical control better than any of these parties. Not because there was any allegiance towards Ethiopia.

The irony is just how quick Tegaru flipped on TPLF itself as soon as TPLF started re-introducing the facts of reality Tigray finds itself in.

That said, there's significant amount of Ethiopians now supporting Tigray's aspiration for independence. Pushing for it, even. We've wasted decades denying this reality and now we finally listen.

Below is the summary of the debate in English, as per an Tigray observer.

Sep 8, 2020

Thread: I watched almost 8 hours of 3 more debates on #TigrayElection2020 #Tigrayvotes. As promised, I will cram my observation of debates 2, 3,and 4.
Debate 2 : Economic policy and investment
Debate 3: Rural & Urban Development
Debate 4: Education & Health policy.

Assimba: wants social democracy with free markets, emphasized need for peace with neighboring countries [#Eritrea], regions, and the federal government. Cleaning bureaucracy, building better airport & rail were their priorites. They were attacked by TIP & TPLF.

Sawt: empahsized they too were social democrats. They attacked TPLF for not building Tigray-centric patriotic & nationalist Investors. They also were the ONLY party that want land to be privatized in urbanizing areas while the state keeps on owning rural land. Sawt lamented the existence of 3000 schools that are unwalled sheds & the loss of MIT to the federal government. They advocated the return of health & education policy back to the states. They also said that they are for at least an Iraq-kurds' style of "loose federation*."*

Baytona flexed on building investors that are sufficiently nationalistic Tigrayans. It probably had the longest list of economic institutions & programs it wanted to build. They called for cultural revolution on idea of wealth, i.e. "other Jews" version instead of Jesus'.

Baytons revealed that their eventual goal after confederacy is Independence. They want seperation of party and state and critisized TPLF' agricultural growth as still not good enough to transform the peasant into a sufficient farmer, much less industrialization.

Baytona's economic model is Developmental Assembly/Congress. It was derided by Independence party & TPLF as a dishonest framing of developmental state model. Baytona also claimed Social democracy does not work in Africa as evidenced by South Africa. Baytona does not believe in privatization of land. It wants to change curriculum to "smell like Tigrayan, not Shewan." It wants to resuscitate Tigray inheritances, resources, & knowledge including Ge'ez language to transform Tigray into being "sim card of the horn region."

TPLF, as an incumbent was receiving most of the fire. However, it used its list of economic accomplishments through the Developmental state model to rebut them. It was framer of federal free market policy that allowed for government intervention to fill gaps. TPLF also went on the offense against Social Democracy for having no base community or constituency in #Tigray and called new parties ኣብ ሰማይ ዘሎ ደበና to mean "untested" while it made robust defense of its anti-rent seeking stance.

TPLF also defended EFFORT conglomerate as fillers of investment gap through some of the beloved subsidaries like Sur construction who are renouned road builders in #Tigray. Liya Kassa & the only female debater gave & muscular defense of TPLF.

TPLF also confidently defended land policy given Africa's experiences that made farmers landless. They also bragged about how the speed of urbanization is highest in the horn region with urban economy potentially reaching > 50% within 10 years. TPLF was at its strongest with Education & Health. It bragged about its 4 universities and 45 technical schools. It also showcased its disease prevention policy and increase of health care workers from 600 to 16,000 and increase of life expectancy from 45 to 65.

TPLF's .@hgodefay defended even the credible attack about education focus having been on access instead of quality. He successfully used the line "You all are a product of our successful education policy."

With a big advantage of a world renouned health policy developed during famine years, built on by .@DrTedros who is now serving as global head of WHO, .@hgodefay again cleverly, effortlessly, & effectively defended the home-grown policy with the phrase "ወድ ገዛና እዩ።"

There was a question about the Single payer-like Health insurance system in Tigray for not paying prescription drug cost. However, the head of the health bureau u/hgodefay again addressed it with the fact that patients can get drugs for free if they can not afford it.

Tigray Independence Party (TIP/ውናት): was short on programs, but focused on a vision. They summarized everyones position as wanting to build state-led capitalism and aspiration to be like Israel, China, etc. They said Tigray can not do that while under #Ethiopia.

They said "Tigray is suffocated, choked, and burdened by #Ethiopia. #Ethiopia is an empire that can not build necessary Institutions. In fact #Ethiopia is probably the last empire that should not exist anymore & it needs to be finished off."

While everybody seemed to be somewhat lost in the details and listing of programs. TIP was so focused in dealing with new reality of Tigray without TPLF's supremacy at the federal level. They were the only ones that were not successfuly attacked.

In fact, TIP's attacks against TPLF for not having new policy that recognizes the status of 6% of #Ethiopia's population in the era of "Oro-Mara" was so sharp. The attacks of Mahari Yohannes whose father is a martyr of the 17 yrs armed struggle were impossible to defend.

TIP's Mahari lambasted TPLF for being paternalistic & not giving people of Tigray referendum about independence back in 1991. He also pointed out the federal arrangement has been tried and failed and it will not work.

Other than education & health policy (by statute), "All economic policy and structural policies are under federal jurisdiction by constitution." TIP kept on saying. There fore, none of Sawt, Baytona's, or TPLF visions can be implemented no matter how good they may be.

None of the parties seem immune to withstand TIP's attack.

Sawt had empasized "loose federation & no Article 51, upto independence" position, but they had no answer to TIPs retort that they have no chance of having majority to amend the federal constitution with 38 votes.

Baytona's position of "confederacy with eventual Independence" was simply dismissed as disingenuous and unnecessary complication. TPLF also seemed stagnant, too patient, or in the wait-and-see game while TIP is in the lead & proactive in shaping the future.

Even Assimba (ADP) seemed to recognize and resign to the winds of how TIP was shaping the debate to begin their question with, "you all seem to think Independece is the way to go, ...."

Based on the debates, my take is that the election is between TIP & TPLF. However, I know from experience that field organizing on the ground matters. I am not sure who has the best ground game in all the Zones & Weredas of #Tigray.

Current actions by the federal government are likely to strengthen TIP more. However, I doubt it will bother TPLF. In the words of former TPLF fighter Gebrekidan Desta, TPLF is pleased that it has produced ሓዊ ሓዊ ዝጨንዉ መንእሰያት in the 3 parties.

It is also possible that people go with the tried & true, literally battle and wars-tested & hardened party TPLF in such uncertain times. Whatever the outcome, impact, or validity of the election might be, this was great excercise for people of #Tigray. Happy election Day!
