Dating as an Indian guy in UCI?

Ive heard a lot of things about how non Asian ppl especially guys struggle to date at UCI. Id assume its worse for Indians cause of the stereotypes associated. I wanted to ask if ppl at UCI really are like this and how true the stereotypes about ppl in OC are? Ik UCI is not a good place to date as it socially has a bad reputation too. I lwk never had a girlfriend in high school, and don't want college to go the same way😭. So yeah, in general how is the dating scene at UCI?

WTS 1 GA DAISY CHAIN TICKET

Hi! Unfortunately, I can no longer attend, so I’m selling my wristband.

LA/OC area only! I’m doing an in-person exchange once I have the wristband in hand (they’re expected to ship around August 10). Meeting in person is the safest option for both of us.

I’ve successfully sold wristbands for other Front Gate ticketed events before with no issues, and I’m happy to provide proof of past sales and any other verification you need.

DM me if you’re interested or have any questions!

***I’m choosing not to return it to Front Gate because I’m not very confident in the waitlist system to ensure my ticket goes to a true fan. I’d much rather know it’s going directly to someone who genuinely wants to attend. It means more to me knowing it’s going to someone who’s truly excited to be there.

Free parking for graduate residents at Campus Village?

Hi everyone! The information online was a little confusing so I thought I’d ask here - do law students/graduate residents at campus village get the same free parking spot folded into the overall rental rate that Palo verde and verano place residents do? From what I see on the student website, we should, we just have to register through my commute instead of VPMS - I also called housing, and they said that every student living in the UCI owned grad housing gets a parking spot that is included in the rent. Other resources are saying that campus village residents don’t. Anyone know?

Study buddy?

This might sound a little weird, but I'm looking for a study buddy (or a few).

I can't study with my close friends because we end up getting too distracted, but I do better when someone else is there in person to lock in with and keep each other accountable.

I'm a female going into my senior year, and I'd prefer someone around the same age or older (not a huge deal though). I'm looking for someone who's motivated and down to study for long hours consistently.

If you're interested, let me know! You can comment or DM me. :)

Housing Advice

Hey guys, I'm currently an incoming 3rd year residing in ACC but for my 3rd year I applied to VDC but I only have guaranteed 2 year housing, and they haven't got back to me and I know people who have began to get their leases so I'm starting to lose hope. I really need a place to stay as commuting isn't an option and would prefer to stay near campus as much as possible for my classes, clubs, orgs, and work.

I have been made aware that I can go to the leasing offices of each ACC in person and see if they have any leases available, as well as applying for emergency housing with UCI Housing. I am even possibly looking into off campus housing although it might be a pricier alternative. If anyone has been in this situation or has any advice at all, it would mean a lot and anything helps!!🙏🙏

Long story short: I am a incoming junior transfer, and i've just fully committed to going pre-med, what does that look like as a non-science major ?

I am starting with Bio 93 this summer, and last semester I took intro to bio at CC so I have a better understanding of the topics. I see that for the bio rounds, chem, etc. there was major restrictions. Am I at a total loss having to wait until the restrictions lift when signing up for any of these pre-med prereqs during the non-summer quarters? I have summer open so this next summer i'll be taking whatever I can that lines up with my necessary prereqs, but I will have to take a lot of the classes during normal quarter timing. Anyone have experience with this?

making friends

i’m an upcoming second year and i’ve pretty much only made 2 friends so far at my time here. i had a pretty rough first year which made things tough for me but i’m hoping to make friends this summer, although im worried it’ll be hard since there’s not many people on campus.
any advice? i’m pretty shy and not great at talking to people 😭 but i have lots of interests and i really value deep bonds. part of why it’s hard for me to make friendships here is because it feels like people mainly just want casual hangouts rather than long lasting meaningful friendships.
i’m open to ideas outside of uci too! i love animals and have always wanted to volunteer at an animal shelter, however, i don’t have a car which makes things tough, pls share recommendations!

How needed are e scooters/skateboards

Im gonna go to UCI in the fall and when I visited I saw some people riding like electric scooters or skateboards and while they were lowk annoying as fuck how needed would these be. I’m a pretty active guy and while I don’t mind walking I’m probably gonna mind it mid semester having to walk 20-25 minutes to class or to the rec center or something. Do you think I should look into getting one or nah? I also don’t have a car if that makes any difference. Although I don’t think I’ll be traveling anywhere far with a scooter. Thanks.

ICS vs Bionformatics Minor -- Are the specialized courses worth it?

Hello, I am a to-be third year this fall, and I have some questions regarding the value of the bioinformatics minor. I am studying to work with -omic data (of which type, I'm not entirely sure yet!), and would like to know if anyone has taken COMPSCI 184A,C and 189. Do you believe that these are worthwhile and informative courses? I have also considered the ICS minor, as this seems to have a greater focus on programming and data on a much broader scope, but its upper divisions seem less tailored to someone in my field of study. (I do not think that IN4MATX 171 is quite relevant to me)

Bioinformatics would only require 6 new classes for me (easily slotted into my remaining 6 non-summer quarters--though I do take summer classes!), whereas ICS would require 8, if this is of any help.

Both advice and general experiences with the classes are welcome! Thanks in advance.

CC Transfer Dilemma: SJSU (Silicon Valley Access) vs. UC Irvine (TAG) for Materials/Semiconductors?

Hey everyone,

I’m a community college student with one year left before transferring, and I'm trying to decide between a guaranteed UC transfer or targeting SJSU.

My Background & Stats:

  • Finished: O-Chem I-II, Calc I-III, Linear Algebra, and most Engineering Physics.
  • Interests: Batteries, materials, and semiconductors (solidified through coursework and ACS conventions).
  • The Plan: Pursue an accelerated 5-year BS/MS program (funding is largely covered by parents, so a 1-year master's extension is the goal).

Option 1: San Jose State University (SJSU)

  • Pros: Prime Silicon Valley location, excellent local pipeline for internships, and their ChE graduate concentrations align perfectly with my interests.
  • Cons: Less "prestige" on a national level compared to upper-tier UCs.

Option 2: UC Irvine (or other UCs via TAG)

  • Pros: UC prestige and research infrastructure.
  • Cons: Looking at UCI's master's specialties, it feels heavily bio-focused, which doesn't interest me.

My Philosophy: I don't care much about name-brand prestige for its own sake. I value work experience and internships during college, knowing that experience outvalues a school's name after your first job.

Given my specific interest in tech/materials/batteries rather than biotech/pharma, is choosing SJSU over a UC the right move here? How do the internship opportunities for ChEs at SJSU actually compare to the UCs in these specific fields?

Thanks for any insight!
