Unsealed box at UPS

I know I made a mistake. I had some important documents to send via UPS. Arriving at the store, I asked for their suggestions as the documents were thick. The UPS store person suggested me to get a UPS box. Later she generated a label and I put the documents inside the box. I asked her if anything else need to be done. She said NO and returned me the receipt with tracking number. I left the box unsealed thinking they would probably do it.

Now I got to understand that there is no guarantee they would do it because it is not their job, rather it is my responsibility. It happened yesterday before 7 pm right before the shop was closed. Today is Independence day, the shop is closed. The shop will open tomorrow at 12 pm. The current tracking status shows "Labels created".

What should I do? Should I go back to the shop to ensure sealing the package?

EDIT: I went to the UPS store today (the next day). They told me that as I bought the UPS box from the store, it is their responsibility to tape the box. I do not need to worry about this.

Is it true some of y'all make 40 an hour plus?

I'm trying to figure out what I want to do with my life. Ain't smart enough to go to college for something worth the money so trades it is for me. I've been looking at welding, mill right, HVHC , robot technician , electrical, diesel mechanic , something CDL? Really haven't decided on something yet and probably won't for another year but I'm always researching.

I'm comfortable with working somewhere for awhile as long as I enjoy it so hearing 40 something after some amount even 10 years is enough to peak my interest in UPS.

I know there's more than just delivering. There's trucking including feeder routes and there's I'm guessing an aviation side for ground handling?

What are some things about society you notice while running your route?

For me the biggest one is that everyone is sick it seems. Just so much medicine over and over again to everyone and it’s never ending. Another thing is that materialism/consumerism is rampant. Countless packages from Nordstrom, endless new cellphones etc… many collections notices too.

Friendly pets in the wild

If you have your own route—or cover one regularly—and suddenly discover that the friendly little animal is no longer alive for some reason, do you feel anything?
The truth is, it makes me sad whenever I hear news like this.
Perhaps it is because I have pets, and some are no longer with me—they are in the sleep that has no end...

UPS Driver wins $238 million lawsuit verdict in discrimination firing.

(Bloomberg Law) -- A Black UPS driver won a $237.6 million jury verdict in a case in which he alleged he’d been discriminated against and subject to a hostile work environment before being fired.

The verdict, rendered Thursday in the US District Court for the Eastern District of Washington at Yakima, may be both the biggest of its kind and the biggest ever in the state, said attorney Dustin Collier, one of the lawyers who represented plaintiff Tahvio Gratton.

Gratton was awarded $39.6 million for emotional distress along with $198 million in punitive damages, according to a transcript provided by Collier. The verdict sheet is not yet publicly available.

“We thank the jury for seeing the truth, vindicating our client’s rights, and sending a powerful message to UPS that our communities will not tolerate racial discrimination, harassment, or retaliation against the victims of discrimination and harassment,” the attorney said.

The parcel delivery service, in a statement to Bloomberg Law, said it would appeal.

The trial started Sept. 9.

Summary Judgement

Gratton filed the lawsuit in October 2022 and amended his complaint six months later. Earlier this year, US District Judge Thomas O. Rice denied a United Parcel Service Inc. bid for summary judgment.

Gratton had claimed he was frequently laid off in favor of white drivers with less seniority than him; repeatedly called “boy” by a supervisor; and given a less desirable route and a worse truck.

After filing grievances in 2018, 2020, and 2021alleging racial discrimination and other workplace mistreatment, he was fired in 202 following a sexual harassment investigation into whether he touched a female employee’s back.

A reasonable jury could find Gratton was fired for speaking out and UPS’ stated reason for his firing — alleging he assaulted an employee — was pretextual, Rice said in his April ruling, sending the case on for trial.

“We are disappointed with the jury’s decision but respect the process and the deliberations of the jury,” UPS spokesman Glenn Zaccara said in the email. “We intend to appeal the verdict based on a number of evidentiary and legal errors.”

Zaccara said the company takes retaliation seriously, has prevention policies in place, and maintains its former driver was fired for an unprovoked assault on a female coworker.

The case is Gratton v. United Parcel Service Inc., E.D. Wash., 22-cv-3149, 9/12/24

Some excerpts:

  1. Mr. O’Rourke is white and younger than Mr. Gratton. Rather than referring to Mr. Gratton by name, he referred to him as “Boy” throughout the day. For example, he said to Mr. Gratton, “Is this the hardest you’ve ever worked, Boy?” “Move faster, Boy, let’s go!” “Boy, I told you to hurry!”

  2. A Footlocker employee witnessed some of Mr. O’Rourke’s conduct towards Tahvio Gratton that day, which she described as “shocking”:

When Tahvio greeted me and asked how I was doing, the other man said, “Let’s get going, boy, let’s move.” “I didn’t tell you to talk, boy.” He went on to call Tahvio “Boy” over and over again, while barking orders at him. Every time this man talked to Tavhio while in the Foot Locker store that day, he call him “boy.” I was absolutely shocked.

At the end of Tahvio’s delivery that day, I was double-counting all of the boxes as I always did before singing off. During that moment of downtime, Tahvio and I again exchanged a few words. His supervisor barked, “I told you, boy, you’re not supposed to talk!"

  1. These events caused Plaintiff Tahvio Gratton severe humiliation and distress. He broke down crying in his car before driving home that day.

  2. UPS subjected Mr. Gratton to ongoing retaliation, including open displays of hostility.

  3. On or about May 25, 2018, Mr. Gratton came to the UPS Center on a day off in order to pick up a personal package. On-Road Supervisor Fromherz stopped Mr. Gratton and asked, “Are you working today?” When Mr. Gratton said “No,” Fromherz yelled, “Then get the fuck off the property!” Mr. Gratton was shocked and asked, “What did you just say?” Fromherz repeated, “Get the fuck off the property."

ups delivered my portable air-conditioner upside down and box beaten up.

Today we received the delivery from UPS, the box was badly damaged and it was upside down. It looks like it has been taken out and put back in. The white straps that were added to secure the machine were also inside the box. It was strapped so tightly that is damaged the product as well. The UPS delivery drivers were inside the van when I walked up, they were still taping it back up with sellotape.

UPS somehow managed to eat my pistol. Was told it got stuck in a conveyer and they can’t do anything about it.

This happened in transit to the dealer. After we couldn’t get anything to happen with ups I did the paperwork and background check and took it home. Gun still works so whatever. They somehow ate through the soft case, manufacturers box and shipping box.

Ups said to contact manufacturer and manufacturer said to contact ups. Guess it’s got character now.

UPS Store packed my shipment, recipient received a Spectrum router instead of my laptops. Has anyone experienced a package mix-up like this?

I'm looking for advice from anyone who has dealt with a similar UPS situation.

I shipped a large package through a UPS Store in Missouri. I paid the UPS Store to professionally pack the shipment, so I did not pack or seal the outer box myself.

Inside the shipment were:

MSI gaming laptop

Acer Predator 18-inch gaming laptop

MSI replacement display

Laptop RAM

SSDs

Other laptop accessories

The recipient in California (a freight forwarder) received a small box containing only a Spectrum WiFi router. The router does not belong to me. They also recorded a video of opening the package, showing that it contained only the router.

The UPS Store packed my shipment after I left the store. Initially they didn't even give me a drop-off receipt—I had to go back and ask for it before they provided one.

UPS has opened an investigation. I have:

The UPS tracking number.

Purchase invoices.

Laptop serial numbers.

Photos of the router.

The recipient's unboxing video showing the wrong contents.

Spectrum has also started checking whether the router belongs to one of their warehouses or customers.

At this point I'm wondering if this was a package or shipping-label mix-up during packing rather than a package simply being lost.

Has anyone experienced something similar?

Was UPS able to locate the correct package?

How long did the investigation take?

If another customer received your package by mistake, did UPS successfully recover it?

Is there anything else I should be doing besides working with the UPS investigation and the UPS Store?

I'm trying to recover the shipment rather than immediately focus on a claim, so any advice or similar experiences would be greatly appreciated.

Next Day Air Friday Delivery

Before anyone goes through this experience DO NOT USE UPS NEXT DAY AIR for Friday delivery. If you do and they miss the cutoff window for sorting then it will sit on a tractor trailer for sorting at the facility until Sunday. Those crews work Sunday through early Friday am and you are stuck if your package has the slightest issue.

I wasted thousands of dollars today because UPS had a little bit of a weather delay and my package got to the airport at 430 am instead of 230 am. I had employees at the UPS distribution all day long waiting. Don't put yourself through this pain. Don't use this service for anything that you really need.

New phone shipment stolen by UPS worker - what do I do?

Kind of frantic right now, I'll attempt to get the details as straightforward as possible.

Last Friday, UPS delivery tracking said the phone should have arrived by 9pm that day. It got delayed to Saturday. Saturday evening, tracking updates to Monday. On Sunday, tracking updated to unknown estimate.

Today, I noticed that a return label was made through my AT&T page, and that my old phone is on its way back to AT&T.

I have received nothing! No 'missed delivery' notice, no updates on arrival since Sunday. Currently the customer service lines are closed and won't be open until 10am EST Saturday.

Is there anything I can do right now or do I have to wait? Please help me, I've never had this happen before and I don't know what to do.

UPS Is the Worst Delivery Company I’ve Ever Dealt With

Am I crazy or does this make absolutely no sense?
I thought DHL was the worst but UPS proved me wrong!

My package arrived in Hamburg on Friday.
UPS delayed it by one business day and said it would arrive Saturday. Saturday came, I waited all day, and nothing happened.

To make delivery easier, I redirected the package to a UPS Access Point literally 300 meters from my apartment. I figured this would make things simpler since UPS already delivers to Access Points anyway.

Monday morning:
UPS confirmed my Access Point request.
The package was marked “Out for Delivery Today.”
I expected it to finally arrive at the Access Point.
Then a few minutes later, the status changed to:
“Delivery Attempted”
Except it was already redirected to an Access Point, so I have no idea what delivery was supposedly attempted.
Now UPS says the package will be delivered to the Access Point tomorrow.

So the timeline is basically:
Package arrived in Hamburg on Friday.
UPS said delivery Saturday.
No delivery Saturday.
I redirected it to an Access Point nearby.
UPS confirmed the redirect Monday morning.
UPS said it was out for delivery Monday.
Then UPS delayed it again until Tuesday.
The package has basically been sightseeing in Hamburg for several days.

But the most ridiculous part was the complaint process.
I tried filing a complaint through UPS. The complaint text field was limited to only 254 characters, so I had to rewrite and compress everything multiple times just to fit the issue into their tiny little box of corporate suffering.
Then, after I finally made it fit and clicked submit, UPS refused to submit the claim because my profile was missing a phone number.

Why was I allowed to write the whole complaint first if a phone number was required?

Why not check that before making me squeeze a multi-day delivery problem into 254 characters?

At this point the package delay is already annoying, but the complaint process somehow made the whole thing even worse.

Has anyone else had UPS do something like this?
