Opinion, Win 10 LTSC IOT or Win 11 LTSC IOT in August 2026?

Hello dear friends, first of all i'm grateful to those who'll read this post and give an honest opinion, however, I have a B550M S2H motherboard with a Ryzen 5 3600 6 cores as well as 8 gigs of ram one stick, i also have GTX 1060 3GB, I'm currently on Windows 11 Pro N and i don't have any issue with it but i thought to downgrade to windows 10 LTSC IOT to have better performance and less taken resources by the operating system, i do believe that the entire hardware bundle's drivers did not get updates since last versions which was only for windows 10, that was 2 years ago i assume, though i want an opinion, should i pick up Win 11 LTSC IOT or Win 10 LTSC IOT?

Note that i don't use extraordinary applications, neither i play games that requires any sort of specific operating system, i'll list them down below so you guys can give me a definite clear opinion which'd help me decide.

  • Brave web browser
  • Thunderbird
  • Discord
  • Cloudflare one client
  • PC manager
  • One drive, Everything
  • Spotify
  • World of warcraft
  • League of legends
  • GTA SA:MP
  • RageMP
  • Notepad++.

Thank you in advance.

LTSC n00B - suggested group policy tweaks? Other longevity advice?

Installed on two nearly identical 3-year-old 14900K workstations. Dev/ID details embellished...

Hi there.

Fresh Windows 11 loT Enterprise LTSC n00b, here. I've run the same Win 11 Pro install for about 3.5 years on both of my daily driver workstations. Two nearly identical 14900K/Z790 rigs (ApexEncore/DrkHero mbs), which is about the longest I've run a single OS build (or CPU/platform lol) before either changing hardware or otherwise having to reinstall.

I've had that previous Win 11 Pro install locked into 23H2 for almost the whole time; some sneaky/dumb/tripe 24H2 broke tons of stuff one fateful day way back when, so I restored a working 23H3 image (Reflect) and then used GPEDIT to lock the build into 23H2 and never looked back.

With Nov 2026 looming as the (?) end-of-service point for that long-standing install, LTSC had been banging around in my head for a while, and I finally installed it on both machines this past month.

Both systems are running fine. I've used winget to install a few tools I need (PhoneLink/etc.), but otherwise I'm really digging the minimalist app install base and other leaner aspects of the LTSC OS.

QUESTION: Are there any recommended Group Policy changes I should consider? Obviously, I don't need to use the Group Policy feature set trick I used to lock my previous OS install into Win 11 Pro *23H2* ... but are there any other "sneaker" installs that might occur that aren't strictly utility/security-based with the new LTSC system and that might slip in via Windows Update?

Like, is *every* "feature experience pack" necessary? Frankly, hate to admit I don't even know what came along with that particular "feature pack." I'd like to avoid anything other than system necessaries/security/etc. updates. AFAIK, these builds will stay on Win 11 24H2 LTSC until I install something else completely.

I hate system-altering surprises. I use the same tools/apps every day as critical and necessary daily work utilities. Ideally, nothing on my system drive changes. I don't use Win Restore (hate it!) and have used Reflect for decades to run "incrementals forever" on all of my onboard NVME drives which essentially allows me to roll back in time if some odd/rare system breaking quirk occurs.

So thanks in advance if there is anything folks recommend at the group policy level to ensure the OS stays as zero-day as possible. I'm not expecting any surprises/fluff/preview crap, but then again, brand new OS for me.

Otherwise, looking forward to not sweating service cycles until 2035(?) or some such. Shoosh! That alone was worth the two/three days of work kitting the new OS's out.

Windows 10 LTSC IoT key or work around

Hi, I'm was installing windows 10 LTSC IoT and the key I had doesn't work, the one at massgrave doesn't either, so I need another way to make windows work. I know there was a way to pass through CMD I think but I can't find it. Can anyone give me a working key or tutorial. Thanks in advance!

(Update) Downloaded the version from internet archive cause the one from massgrave wouldn't boot (possibly something corrupted) but I ran the "irm https://get activated.win | iex" and it worked. Y'all don't have to be so mean

What causes a windows iso to get corrupted just after downloading

I was helping someone and told him yo downlaod the iot enterprise

He may have a not good internet connection but it downloaded fine

Put it on ventory, tried it, symptoms of a corrupted is , missing required files, etc

He is not savvy, and he was on an outdated win 10, yold him what to do and he pasted the powershell onto google and asked me what to do next and where to download that powershell 🤦‍♂️

Told him to download rust desk, met with the anmoying login approach, sent him the guide, told me that the buttons just do nothing and can't sign in with google

So i resorted to quick assist, which also was broken

Told him yo update it using Microsoft store and done

Got it, beside litterally disconnecting every 5 mins, i went in, used chatgpt to generate the hash sha256 command generator , and also to gimme the hash for "iot enterprise ltsc win10" and the filename of that iso, which turned out to be the exact same

Compared it to the one already downloaded and on powershell, and it is not the same

So what could have corrupted?

Update: told him to download it again and this time eject first before removing

Update 2: it was a premature usb removal , an old adata 16gb, told him, no ehect first, gut everything works now

Side issue, postgresql is making issues on my side and i cant fully remove ot from my system so i guess imma just install normal windows 10 22h2 and reinstall everything again

My old folks have a Thinkpad X270 with Windows 10 Home installed, and I want to change the OS to Windows 10 IoT Enterprise LTSC (so they won't have to fork over cash for a new laptop can run Windows 11), how do I go about this?

The X270 has Windows 10 Home installed, and my folks don't have the cash for a new PC/laptop that can officially run Windows 11, now that official support by Microsoft for Windows 10 has ended.

I've heard that a user can change the OS from Windows 10 Home to Windows 10 IoT Enteprise LTSC (the one that's supported until 2032) by "editing the registry" or something like it, but I'm not confident in doing it myself.

Can anyone give me a list of things to do so I can do this properly and not brick said Thinkpad X270? Do I still need to buy a license key when I do the change? Thanks.

Hyper specific question about the app Chatterino, on W10 LTSC IoT Enterprise

I recently installed W10 LTSC on my older laptop and everything is working fine, without a single issue.

I like watching twitch, so I have Chatterino which is an app where you can get direct notifications from channels, broadcasters, etc. and you type directly to the channel's chat, without having the tab open.

For some reason, this app doesn't really work well. There're certain files that directly connect to your settings and accounts, that simply don't generate. Even if I put my backups in, the app doesn't recognize it. I can't receive any notifications(I have to set the settings again, after I open it) and I can't type(I have to login every time), which it can become bothersome doing it every single time I open the app.

I've used the common fixes such as run it with administrative privileges, restarting your PC, etc. but still. I've used both the classic version(2.5.5) and the 7TV one(7.5.5), with the same results. Both of them are the portable version.

Basically, if someone else is also using it, is there a potential incompatibility with W10 LTSC, or a user error? It works fine on my regular W10 Home machine.

A beginner's LTSC questions.

I've hopped a lot of operating systems, like really a LOT, used Windows for a couple of months, installed Linux Mint, then distro hopped (Mint to Fedora to EndeavourOS to Zorin), and now wanting to try out Windows LTSC. My use case is a browser and a single video game that I'm sure nobody here ever played (The Powder Toy), Linux just had so many pesky issues that I just quit. My questions are:

  1. What is the diiference between non-IoT and IoT?

  2. Is LTSC stable in day to day use? (stability is something I need.)

  3. Is it flashed onto a USB like Linux?

  4. Are there any quirks a newbie should know about?

Thanks for answering if you did.

Creating A Win11 WindowsToGo on an External SSD using WinToUSB so I can run Windows 11 on my Steam Machine

I don't trust Al to tell me what all the correct settings are or which drive I need to purchase that will be robust enough. It also wouldn't hurt to know how to install the drivers Valve released during setup and which software, if any, to avoid using, such as Wyse Registry Cleaner and IObit Driver Booster.

Will I need to worry about being able to update my copy of Windows on the drive using Windows Update? If it gets updates, will it only get some and not others, like feature updates?

This is important, because I'm not going to have another PC to use that will let me keep WindowsToGo fresh using software from the same people who make WinToUSB.

Is "Update and Shut Down" broken on LTSC?

Searched this, and saw a few articles where Microsoft brags about fixing this "decades-old bug", but I can't tell if they forgot to push the update to the longevity branch

Hey everyone!

I'm currently running this setup:

Processor: Intel Core i7-8th Gen

Will Windows 11 run fine without lag, or will it heat up / slow down my laptop? Let me know your experiences or suggestions!

Looking to switch from 11 Pro to 11 IoT LTSC for video editing purposes and gaming

So I'm planning on buying a new hard drive soon, and with that I was thinking about wiping my system clean so I can build my own file system from scratch, as it got too cumbersome to navigate at time, since the program I'm using (DaVinci Resolve) doesn't like being installed on anything else other than C: drive, I'll take it as a new opportunity to finally have my files in check. Now with that, I was also fed up with the constant Windows updates that I keep forgetting to delay (I'd rather disable them altogether, but alas there's no option to do so without running scripts). So I recently came across this edition of Windows that's stripped of bloat and most telemetry by default, and I'd like to know if there's going to be anything I need to be prepared for when I make that switch. The main program I use is, as mentioned before, DaVinci Resolve, as well as Photoshop. I do run the NVDIA Studio driver on my machine as of now, instead of the dedicated game-ready one, and I haven't encountered any issues with any of my games, so I really don't care about the "cutting edge" stuff for video games. Any feedback is appreciated!

Disable Defender

Hello all,

My machine is running Windows 10 IoT LTSC 2021.

I'm having this issue where the Windows Defender would spike up and/or constantly offend the use of my CPU, Disk, and RAM. It would not be an issue to me generally, but this PC is used for music production (specifically recording instruments and vocals in real time), so any latency being introduced, including by defender running constantly in background, is critical. It's not needed as no software is being downloaded on that pc for well over 2 years, excluding updates of trusted apps like telegram, firefox, spotify and such. Any help would be appreciated

What i've tried:

Disabling all the security options in Windows Security

Adding all the drives to Windows Defender's exclusions

What i'm considering trying:

https://github.com/ionuttbara/windows-defender-remover, stability of use of which im unsure

Using gpedit and services to disable defender (which i've heard is being reverted by defender itself)
