Tried to buy a car. Dealership said no

So frustrated... Me and my wife went to Burleson Honda to try and buy her a used 2024 Accord. We had $7200 as a down payment and a pre approval from a local credit union with an interest rate of 5.62%. Test drove the car and then asked to talk about financing. We didn't tell them how much cash we had to put down or that we had a pre-approval from a credit union that they partner with. We asked for an out the door price and they brought a sheet with a breakdown shown below. We asked about warranty information. We visited another dealership with a similar Accord that had a better warranty. The one we looked at previously was Certified Pre Owned. We were told the one at Burleson Honda was Certified Pre Owned however they are not selling it as certified pre owned.. I asked the salesman to either bring the dealer services fee to $750 or sell the car to us with the certified pre owned warranty. We didn't think either of these were huge asks.. They said they would drop the dealer services fee to $750. The numbers all added up... That's when we told them how much our down payment was and that we had a pre approval from a local credit union. We asked the salesman for a buyers order form. He walks back to finance and after a few minutes returns with a gentleman who wants to speak to us on finances behalf. He was trying to pressure us to run our credit so we can finance through the dealership. I asked what the difference is if we get the loan through our credit union vs running our credit again and going through them. He pretty much said that he won't sell the car to us if we don't let them run our credit or finance through them. When I asked for the reason he said the car was priced very competitively and they wouldn't make any money if we didn't finance through them. His attitude and demeanor was extremely off-putting. We said no, got up and walked out. Below is a pricing breakdown they gave us. Can someone tell me if this is normal or how we should proceed? Can someone tell me why they wouldn't sell the car as certified pre owned if it's gone through the inspection process? We are looking for another car somewhere else but we are blown away that a dealership didn't want to make a sale..

Is my dealership taking my money from front end gross and moving it to back end??

Today I signed a lady up for 0 down and 675 a month, I don't know how much the gross payable was, the car was around 22-25k after ttl. Anyways I went back into the sales tower after talking to my customer and saw that before she went into finance her payment was 616 now, I ended up looking at the screen and found a part that said "gross payable" which was like 1600 and some change. Now doesn't that mean if she signed up for 675 the gross payable would be more around 3100, since the 70 extra bucks a month would equal to about 1500 extra front end? Or am I crazy.... cause if that's true then my commission went from 620 to 320....

Btw this isn't the first time i've noticed them lowering the payment after signing them up for higher WHILE APPROVED.. It's not like the customer only got approved for lower. Idk i might be incorrect bc idk everything about everything just curious!

Car salesman

I’m considering quitting my UPS job to sell cars and would like to know some thoughts/opinion. Is a good job? What’s the avg pay? Does living in a small town hurt business? Just if someone could give the rundown it’ll be greatly appreciated.

I don’t think there’s a more untrustworthy job position. Thoughts?

Is there a more dishonest and embarrassing job title to hold than a car salesman? Thoughts?

Please advise me on whether or not this price is fair.

Would appreciate on ways to not get ripped off when buying a used car from owner, as well. Thank you!

Dealer add ons can absolutely be removed!

Buying tip! When they tell you the dealer add ons can’t be removed they are full of it. It’s been removed every time I purchased a car. You have to call their bluff. Never pay for the paint and fab protection or any of the other garbage they add on an addendum sticker.

Tell that sales person to pound sand and get ready for $100 commission because they’re not making any money off of you! Don’t forget, ruin their commission and day every way you can. They deserve it

Am I Over reacting?

Alright I need to vent because I’m genuinely fired up and starting to wonder if I’m overreacting or just burnt out.

We’re open 9–4:30 Monday through Friday and 9–4 on Saturday. So anyone who works a normal 9–5 can’t even come in during the week unless they take time off. That leaves Saturday… or me having to ask them to burn their lunch hour, rush the whole process, and hopefully buy a car in 45 minutes — if they even show up.

I book three appointments for a Saturday. All three cancel or no-show. Somehow that becomes my problem. Often the classic “I bought privately” excuse comes up after I follow up with these leads. Half the time I feel like it just means “I went to another dealership whose hours actually worked for me.” Which I get. I don’t control other people’s schedules. But I’m still the one getting held accountable for it. I have asked for the hours to accommodate 9-5 leads and was told I am being selfish & need to work on time management by management.

Then on top of that, the leadership style is killing me. Criticism comes completely unstructured & very targeted at me — they go ape shit and then immediately hit me with “don’t take it personally.” Like yeah big man, that little line after you just unloaded your emotional baggage on me is definitely gonna make me not take it personally. My Gm has the leadership abilities of a walnut and it’s embarrassing for how long this guy’s been in the business.

They keep asking me what I think I need to do differently. I’ve held leadership roles in high-pressure environments (hockey & ROTC) before and not once did I ever dump unstructured criticism on people and hide behind “don’t take it personally.”
I’ve been reading Brian Tracy’s Psychology of Selling. First chapter he talks about how self-esteem is everything in sales. That hit me hard. I think that’s exactly my issue right now I just don’t feel supported.

What I actually need is to feel encouraged and backed by management that I know what I’m doing.

I like sales. I enjoy working with customers and I want to get better at this. But it’s exhausting being held responsible for shit I can only control so much no-shows, limited hours, & self esteem, while my confidence keeps getting chipped away.

Am I being unreasonable? Overreacting? Just burnt out? Or is this just normal dealership life? I feel like I haven’t gave the full picture either, but I’m just curious if i’m over reacting.

Would love honest takes from other salespeople, especially anyone who’s worked both small and bigger stores.

Building motohive.ie

Hi, I'm building motohive.ie and think it has potential to be the best car marketplace in Ireland! Looking for new customers - who will get their cars added in for free for a while - and would love to get some recommendations/referrals of dealerships who would be interested in! <3

Closing percentages.

Hey everyone, so I’ve started working at a Honda dealership for over 5 months now- first timer in the industry of car sales. Over time I’ve come to understand the procedures and processes behind everything a lot better than I had in the beginning. I was just curious to see what is the general consensus of a Good or exceptional closing percentage ( tallying your ups and appointments compared to your sold ) Reason being is that are dealership has been putting a lot of pressure on us as of late, and they are expecting each person to have a 60% - 70% closing rate, how does that sound to you? Is that normal? Right now I’m averaged at 51% with 118 visits and they’re saying that the goal really is in that 60 al- 70% range.

Struggling with disability

Got a genetic disorder amd a slew of severe injuries caused by it. Ive done well in the car business in the past, but the new store has very very little cooperation between sales people and one particular sales person is making my life hell.

I cant catch any ups. I stand up, get halfway to the door, and this woman sprints past me to get the customer. It'd be fine if she was a decent salesperson thay spent an hour or two with each client but she doesnt. She burns through them like cookies. 15 to 30 minutes and theyre leaving, pissed off at her and writing a bad review. And shes ready to catch another one.

The worst part is she isnt even watching the lot anymore, shes listening for my damn boots clicking on the tile and *thats* what makes her stand up.

I cant run, genuinely I can barely walk at a decent pace. My left knee barely bends and hurts like hell when it does, and that hip subluxes if I move it without genuinely focusing.

This shit is BRUTAL

Thoughts on delivrd?

Has anyone seen the guy on TikTok that calls car dealerships to negotiate prices for people who pay him to basically get the price lower? He seems to go for at least $2,000 off MSRP and seems to know how to get a good deal from dealerships pretty much anywhere.

I’m just curious if you guys think this guy is actually legit and if it would ever make sense to hire someone else to negotiate a car deal for you, opposed to just going in yourself and trying to get the best price?

I work in car sales, my employer gave me a work schedule and expects me to work 55 hours a week. I am 1099. I work at a small used car dealership. I am in Arizona which is a right to work State. Is that legal? I am 100% commission

I took the job because I have been in sales my whole career but this is my first venture into car sales. It is close by my house and I was only to work 5 days. I am a woman, who is brutally honest almost to a fault and it seems to work for me in this job. I don’t know much about the industry as a whole, not sure how common 1099 is but mainly want to know what other’s experience is with a 1099 working for a dealership. Jo Also, every employee here is 1099, not just sales, they regularly ask employees to work beyond the 8 hours and they don’t pay overtime, the hourly employees also don’t really take a lunch break but they have an hour taken out of there check. I am 100% commission and I do not get paid unless I make a sale, that doesn’t happen everyday, this lot sell 30-45 cars total a month, maybe 45-50 since they hired additional sales staff but I was the only salesman for a couple months. Last month I sold 17 cars.

New to the car sales business. Shitty situation need advice

So I’m pretty new to the car sales business, I’ve been working as a porter for almost 2 years and management at that store was the worst ever, after consistently asking to be put into sales and getting fake promises like “yea we’ll set up a meeting to discuss your next steps for sales” and never going through with it or “yea come see me next week and we’ll discuss that” which then I get told to ask the next week and the next, just a brutal cycle of bs right. well now I landed a sales job finally at a different store, I was super excited at first thinking this will be the move that’ll help me achieve some of my dreams and goals and what not, just for me to come to reality with the brutal truth. I’m not too sure if it’s the store itself or what but I’ve been 2 weeks in and on my second week our GM gets fired by the ceo himself who showed up to the store just to fire him, which was lowkey crazy to me during my second week, I was like wtf. But I’m assuming the reason for that was because the store was preforming like shit, And he wasn’t helping. Genuinely the store is ass. Always dead, yes even on Saturdays it’s quite as a mouse. And I never get any customers infront of me. I did everything in the books from doing the service method, to social media, to camping outside for hours hoping for an up. And going through my entire customer log on crm making calls, texts, emails, literally everything. And never getting nothing out of it. The customers always on bs. Asking ridiculous questions and always having me to try and find them a fuckin unicorn. I’m a fast learner and I learned a pretty good amount of the entire process and a lot of stuff that has to do with sales on my first week that they let me go solo. But still I haven’t made a single sale and alot of people started quitting. Idk if this is normal as a green pea first starting out or what’s going on, because I’ve seen on a lot of socials and me doing research of newbies landing 5-10 sales their first month. I don’t get how there doing that. Also I’m pretty sure the store itself is shit. Like from the outside it dosent seem like a low traffic store but when you really get into it and see for yourself, it’s the worst. We did get a new gm today but I can’t rely on him to bring the store back to life. It’s scaring me because I really made the jump from a comfortable base hourly pay by barely doing anything as a porter to a 100% commission only hustle based sales position . And it’s really just luck tbh. I gotta get lucky enough to get a real buyer and not a guy wasting time looking to get an outrageous numbers just because he’s broke. What should I do and what would be a good move for me?

Is this even worth it

I started working in car sales man for 3 weeks now
They offer me 600 base salary a week if I sell the third car I would get a 100 dollar bonus every time.
Now they offer me just commission no base salary.
It’s 300 each car I sell but I’m worried about not selling anything if any coworker brings a customer and buys a car I only will get 150 bc I’m closing the deal I’m the only salesman in the dealer.
They gave me another position at the same time paint cars 100 per every part I paint. They put all the tools and I’ll only will do the labor.
Do y’all think it’s worth staying ?
