Is there a beauty standard for meitei men?

Curious question- Meitei men come in all kinds of looks, skin tones, and face types. But is there a general beauty standard for Meitei guys? Like, are there certain features or a certain look that meitei people usually consider very attractive in Meitei men?

Running in imphal

Any girls in Imphal interested in getting into running or running together sometime? I recently started going to the 195 BPM run club and did my first run with them last week while training for a 5K in July. I’m still pretty new to it, so thought it’d be nice to find other girls who wanna start too 😭

Coming to Manipur as a journalist need help with documentation

Hi folks,

I am an documentary photographer trying to better understand the current landscape of the conflict in Manipur.

My work is not connected to any press organisation or political body. I am looking to document people, lived experiences, and ground realities with sensitivity, honesty, and care. My intention is not to sensationalise the conflict, but to understand it from multiple sides and represent it as responsibly as possible.

I have previously covered the RG Kar case in Kolkata through on-ground documentary reporting, while staying committed to the larger human issue at the centre of it.

I have recently connected with someone from the Meitei community and would like to understand more about what is happening in and around Imphal. I would be grateful to connect with anyone who can help me navigate the region, speak to people, understand the context better, and document stories that deserve to be seen.

I want to approach this work with humility, neutrality, and respect for everyone affected.

Any leads, introductions, or guidance would be deeply appreciated.

3D Artists ahoy!

Hey people!
Curious about how many people from Manipur are working in 3D these days.

Thought it’d be interesting to have an open discussion around the local 3D scene and see what people are working on these days. Could be professionals, students, hobbyists, freelancers, studio artists, anyone really.

Also interested in hearing what pipelines/software people use. Blender, Autodesk Maya, Houdini, Unreal Engine, archviz, realtime, cinematic work, ZBrush sculpting, all of it counts.

Not positioning this as a recruitment thread, but collaborations, opportunities and connections naturally come out of conversations like these anyway, so figured it was worth asking.

ꯈꯨꯔꯨꯝꯖꯔꯤ manipur. First post , No agenda just harmony through history

Had posted in a larger sub on the “Who indegenous debate” , someone asked me to post here as well.

Firstly, the report I am presenting is backed by United Nations, during the post colonial decade (1995-2005) when UN was at it strongest feat that confronted brutal realities (land grabs, genocide statistics, corporate violence) without the polished "sustainable development" jargon of today. The very act of writing those reports was a political fight against governments who denied the data.

Meaning, the researchers who did the ground work were not social media degree holders, they were actual intellectuals working at ground-level for many many years before even writing a single line of the book titled “United Nations Indigenous Decade in NorthEast india (1995-2004) ”

The report matters now because the conditions at that time India being newly free of colonization, and United Nations growing up as a major power , had less chances of govt funded biased researchers to suit their dominant narrations . With the current generation this cannot be guranteed. Hence request NE folks to READ THE BOOK before its taken down/manipulated .

Who-Indigeneous discussion ?

Besides the listed ethnic communities in the charts.
Qouted text: “Many communities that are indigenous to the Northeast belong to the Mongoloid stock and speak Sino-Tibetan languages. Apart from the tribals, the communities belonging to the Mongoloid stock also include some non-tribal groups like the Meitei of Manipur and the Tai-Ahom of Assam.”
Meaning —> We are not all ‘tribals.’ The Meitei and Tai-Ahom are Mongoloid stock too ,but the government puts us in different boxes to divide us.

Qouted text: “However, those of the Mongoloid stock are not the only inhabitants of the region. It also has non-Mongoloid groups such as the ethnic Assamese and some Bengali communities who consider themselves indigenous to the region.”

Meaning—> Now even ethnic Assamese and some Bengalis claim to be ‘indigenous’ to the Northeast. That is the root of the conflict.

Qouted text: “Among the other inhabitants of Assam are the Adivasi and other plantation labourers who immigrated from Jharkhand, Chattisgarh, Orissa and their neighbouring areas in the 19th and early 20th centuries and the more recent Bihari, Bangladeshi and Nepali immigrants.”

Meaning: “The list keeps growing. Adivasi, Bihari, Bangladeshi, Nepali — all now living in Assam. And each group wants to be called ‘indigenous.’”

Report is 20+ years old , the truth remains but the numbers have become worse. For the next post :
We will find it out from immigration related conflicts who came from where and who occupied whom.

Education in Manipur

The current education ecosystem in Manipur faces several structural challenges:

high dependence on private tuition,

overcrowded coaching classes,

lack of personalization,

inadequate practical learning,

outdated teaching methods,

and increasing educational pressure driven by fear of missing out (FOMO).

.

.

Turns out vast majority of teacher turns out to be people who graduated and simply starts teaching as a means of income rather than sheer passion. No experience, no side quest; that's a dead end for the students. I can do a debate about this whole day

.

.

Informal economy; business on cash without reporting true income. Tuition, coaching etc thats literally tax evasion. One teacher has a batch of 5-6 classes a day with 80-90 students charging atleast 6k per head. Do the math. The whole act of sending tuition and receiving is economically inefficient and this should be replace by a more effective one. Yes, I wish to do something for this very soon!

.

.

A fresh graduate has literally nothing to do without the aid of someone else. So yeah preparing for government exam came next. Starts at 21 ends at 29. Wasting our prime lives on seeking certainty so that we can be on loop till we are 60. Too much to speak and yet so tired to type😬

.

.

Anyone is enthusiastic enough to change the system reach me out someday and we can make a change somewhere in the near future.

Yes. I live in Noida since I am working here. But I am more than happy to come back home to build a better future.

Need some long term financial advice before I make my next major move.

28M from Manipur. I currently work a government contractual job earning around ₹24k/month, which is expected to increase to around ₹55k/month once I get regularised early next year. Apart from my job, I also run a small business generating around ₹8–10L annually, although the income can vary depending on the year.

I currently have no debt, cash reserves of around ₹4–5L, and my family already owns 3 plots of land. I also have some collectable/alternative assets that have appreciated over the years, so a portion of my net worth is already tied up in relatively illiquid assets alongside land. My monthly household expenditure is around ₹25–30k, and my wife and I are also expecting a baby soon.

One important factor is that although we own land, our family still does not have a permanent house yet, and we are currently staying in government accommodation.

My current dilemma is that there’s an opportunity to buy around 1 acre of paddy field land near a highway, about 25 km from the city, for roughly ₹10L. I feel it could appreciate well in the future, especially with development expanding outward. However, I also realise I already have significant exposure to land and still haven’t started SIP/index fund investing yet.

Given my situation, would you prioritise buying more land, starting SIPs/index fund investing, building larger liquidity/emergency funds, or focusing first on eventually building a house? Looking for long-term financial perspectives from people familiar with land appreciation and realities in Manipur.

Just a bunch of thoughts

As someone from the Kuki-Zo community who was raised in Imphal alongside Meitei and Tangkhul friends, watching this conflict unfold has been deeply painful and confusing.

What troubles me most is how quickly rumours replaced truth. Every community seemed to have its own narrative, and very little effort was made to properly verify information before emotions took over. Even sections of the media appeared more interested in amplifying outrage than fact-checking events responsibly.

Take the incident during the peace rally, for example. The Kuki community immediately blamed the Meitei for burning the Anglo-Kuki War Memorial, yet there was never any clear evidence establishing who was actually responsible. Some people pointed fingers at ISTV reporters simply because they happened to be present at the scene. But journalists were expected to be there — it was one of the largest rallies organised by the tribal student bodies. Presence alone is not proof.

Another thing that still raises questions for me is how quickly rumours spread that Kuki-Zo groups were “attacking” Meiteis, triggering mobilisation from groups like Arambai Tenggol. From what many of us saw initially, it seemed like a conflict that could have been contained and resolved before it spiralled into something far more destructive.

The more I think about it, the less this violence makes sense as a purely communal issue. It often feels as though larger forces benefited from the chaos — whether political, criminal, or economic interests that thrive when ordinary people are divided and distracted.

Yes, illegal immigration from Myanmar is a legitimate concern because of the ongoing conflict there. And yes, people fleeing violence deserve humanitarian shelter and compassion. But I do not believe that alone explains the scale of hatred and destruction we have witnessed in Manipur.

What worries me most is the future. I fear we are raising a generation shaped by trauma, suspicion, and anger — regardless of whether they are Kuki, Meitei, Naga, or anything else. I grew up with Meitei and Tangkhul friends. We shared classrooms, meals, jokes, and memories without constantly seeing each other through the lens of community and conflict.

I worry that our children may never experience that same sense of normalcy and friendship if this cycle continues.

At some point, we must start asking harder questions, rejecting rumours, demanding accountability from everyone, and refusing to let fear turn an entire generation into radicals. Because once hatred becomes inherited, peace becomes much harder to rebuild.

Manipur, 1907-1915 through the eyes of Colonel John Shakespeare.

Colonel John Shakespeare served as the British Political Agent in Manipur from 1905 to 1917, overseeing the princely state during a decisive phase of colonial rule.

This photo is from his famous paper 'The Religion of Manipur,' read on May 21st, 1913 and published in the journal Folk-Lore later that year.

why do Manipur Nagas use Meiteilon as a common language within their tribe instead of adopting Nagamese (their ancestral language) ?

I understand that Manipur Nagas speaks different languages/dialects but what I don’t understand is them using Meteilon as a common language instead of Nagamese, I’m not saying they shouldn’t speak Meiteilon but at least within their community doesn’t it make more sense to adopt or practice their own ancestral language instead of adopting other communities language? or better yet learn each other local languages and preserve it
