4th of July at Shoreline Amphitheatre. How was it?

My family and I went to the Shoreline Amphitheatre for the SF symphony + Fireworks yesterday. We had a nice time. The weather cooperated.

We've been going for the past few years and I've loved the usual programming. They did the Summer of 1969 program this year, and even though it was a good performance, the usual energy was missing.

Wanted to see if everyone enjoyed it and had a nice time? Besides getting stuck in traffic and the long walk.

Thoughts on Castro Street?

Do you think Castro Street has become a more enjoyable place since the pedestrianization? What do you think would make it more vibrant or enjoyable? How should Castro St be in the future?

Anyone in the Peninsula / South Bay interested in a small pop harmony singing group?

I’ve been looking for something like Pentatonix-style group singing (modern pop songs, layered harmonies, vocal arrangements), but most local options seem to be either traditional choir or performance-heavy a cappella.

I’m hoping to find a few people (maybe 4–8?) who enjoy singing and would be interested in casually meeting to harmonize on pop / indie / R&B songs.

What I’m imagining:
Small group (not a huge choir)
Strong focus on harmonies / blend
Pop songs and modern arrangements
No choreography required 😅
Low-pressure, but people who care about sounding good
Maybe occasional performances if there’s interest
Skill level: ideally people who can generally hold pitch / harmony, but you definitely don’t need to be a professional singer.

Personally, I love artists like Billie Eilish, Harry Styles, Sabrina Carpenter, Chappell Roan, SZA, Bruno Mars, etc., but open to all kinds of songs.

I’m in my mid-20s and would especially love meeting other young professionals / grad students. Also, in the Palo Alto / Stanford area, but open to anywhere in the Peninsula / South Bay. I’m also hoping this becomes a fun recurring social thing, not just rehearsals.

Comment or DM if this sounds fun!

Apocalypse planters

Fine industrial planters, apparently designed to sit over the curb and leak rust into the gutters forever. With the added bonus of possible injury to an unlucky bicycle rider or pedestrian on a bad day. Why would the city allow this ?

Did The Very Intense And Shocking Security Measures At San Antonio Road Safeway Make Shoppers Go To The Other Safeway On Shoreline Blvd?

San Antonio Road Safeway has implemented San Francisco style security measures despite being in Mountain View. The store has ended 24 hours operation, locked up more items than other nearby Safeway stores, implemented security gates and fencing, and relocated the attendant terminal at self checkout. Metal security gates open automatically when entering but sounds a loud alarm when attempting to exit. They also replaced the closed check lane cords with alarmed metal security gates kept in the closed position at an unused check lane and if you open a closed metal check lane gate a loud alarm would go off. All automatic entry gates and closed check lane gates have signs saying ”Emergency Exit Alarm Will Sound” on them making people trapped in the store should they change their minds and leave without shopping. This Safeway locked up otc medications, vitamins, supplements, and travel sized toiletries which are not locked up at nearby Safeway stores. The Shoreline Blvd location is not 24 hours, but they only locked up their most expensive merchandise like some expensive alcohol selection and batteries and they don‘t have security gates and fencing. The intense security measures at the San Antonio Road location makes Mountain View look bad as Mountain View is much safer than San Francisco. Shoreline Blvd Safeway is the way to go and I will only shop there and never go to San Antonio Road Safeway again despite being closer to me. Do anybody here stop going to the San Antonio Road Safeway and go to Shoreline Blvd Safeway instead for a non prison like shopping experience?

Middlefield and San Antonio

What happened in this intersection? There are many cops and also a big passenger bus stopped and they have been there for a couple hours at least. They seem to be studying the scene.

Would I Fit In at the YMCA as a Single Adult in My 40s?

Hello!

I’m a single woman in my 40s with no kids, and I’m thinking about joining the YMCA of Silicon Valley (probably El Camino or East Palo Alto).

One thing I’m trying to figure out is whether I’d fit in.

When I look at the YMCA’s Instagram and website, I mostly see photos of kids, camps, and family programs. I know that’s a big part of what the YMCA does, but it makes me wonder what the adult community is actually like.

I’ve previously been a member at City Sports and YogaSix. They were fine for working out, but everyone just exercised and left, so I never really made any friends or found a sense of community.

What attracts me to the YMCA is the variety of classes (Zumba, yoga, Tai Chi, etc.) and especially the Hike Club. I’m hoping to find a place where I can exercise regularly, get to know people over time, and become part of a community.

For those of you who are members:

  • Would a single adult in their 40s feel like they fit in?
  • Are there many adults without kids, or is it mostly families?
  • Has anyone actually made friends through the YMCA?
  • What’s the Hike Club like? Do people usually come alone or with friends or family?

I’d really appreciate hearing about your experiences before I decide to join. Thanks!

To the older man who I just startled on the Stevens Creek Trail…

I’m sorry for sneaking up on you! I always announce “on your left” but I think I was just a little too quiet for you to hear before I passed by.

He’s almost certainly not going to see this, so if you hear your uncle or neighbor complain about the rude lady on the bike, please apologize on my behalf haha.

Stay safe this weekend, neighbors!

Fourth of July Ideas

I (28F) am an immigrant craving a classic 4th of July celebration! I went to watch fireworks in SF a couple years ago, but the fog made it a bust. I’m hoping for something more local and small this year.

Any suggestions for local BBQs/potlucks or a place where one can celebrate with friends, old and new?

Fighter jets being extra today

I wouldn’t mind some apple alerts warning me about these coming in. Sounded like a war zone. Kids started crying.

Electronics repair tools library or rental?

I'm needing to replace a switch in my mouse but I don't have a soldering iron to remove the faulty switch and install a new one. I'm also lacking the tools to open up the mouse so if those are available at the same place that would be a bonus, but if not I'll go buy an iFixit kit from from Micro Center (definitely should have one anyway).

So does anyone know where I could rent or use an available soldering iron?

Help: Where to unload a POD

I recently moved out of my unit in East Bay and put all my stuff in an 8-ft POD container. I was going to have it delivered to my new apartment in downtown MV, but the apartment management says the apartment doesn’t have a designated space for POD unloading. The city of MV also doesn’t allow PODs on public roadways (and they don’t issue permits for them either).

PODS told me I could visit my container now in Oakland and self-unload, but I don’t think that’s going to be possible. What should I do in this situation? I thought about asking local moving companies if they can receive the container in their lot, transfer the content to their truck, and have it delivered to my place, but I’m not sure if any moving company does that.

Any insight would be greatly appreciated!

Looking for a list or anyone with knowledge of the arcades from 70's and 80's

After doing as many search entries, they all seem to lead to the same thing

The Outer Limits

Keystone

Alladins Castle

The Time Zone

Central Park.

I know this aint all of them. I remember a hole in the wall, between shoreline and San Antonio on the South bound side of El Camino. There was also one in The Old Mill. Ugh, its driving me nuts.
