Napa Recommendations please!

Hi! Going to Napa valley August 26-30 this year for a wedding. I have never been and would love some recommendations on what to do, try, and see!

We are staying in the town of Napa. The wedding is in St Helena. We will have a rental car but we ideally want to uber on tasting days. There are 4 adults total (65, 70, 30, 31). It is all of our first time.

Itinerary: Wednesday (Aug 26) is a travel day but we could do dinner , Thursday free all day, Friday is the wedding but can do breakfast/brunch, Saturday free all day, Sunday (Aug 30th) is a travel day but we could do breakfast.

I am open to anything. Ideally wine tastings, wine tours, good food. I love red wines. This trip is about exploring Napa, seeing the vineyards, eating good food, relaxing, and sightseeing.

Budget: it’s obviously vacation so splurging on a good meal or activity is something we are open to, but something super expensive ($$$$ or more) is out of budget. For example I saw the wine train for $500 a person and that is a no for us.

Would love to hear anyone’s recommendations, advice, and/or input! We are super excited to be going and can’t wait to visit this beautiful town.

**special note: we are in town for a wedding so telling us to go somewhere else or stay somewhere else is not possible.

Crazy to see our local house race featured on TYT

Eric Jones on TYT was a surprise in a good way. I love to see someone putting themselves out there to try and make this place better. Tired of the lack of anything new in Napa!

Advice for a November Visit

Hello! My husband and I are visiting Napa in November as an add on to a Thanksgiving trip to see family. We would love any advice on vineyards, restaurants, coffee shops, galleries, bike routes, really anything you wish you would have known on your first trip.

We are happy to pay for tastings but just want to avoid the $$$ tourist traps. We appreciate wines that are really unique and stand out from what you would find at any reputable wine shop.

Thanks in advance to this group for sharing your knowledge.

Napa heritage job market?

Hello! I'm a recent grad, coming out of a BAH degree from Canada (Queen's University), I studied History and English Literature. I have top grades and lots of good experience in museums (~3 years) and archives (~1 year) and am looking for a job in Napa in heritage (museums, archives, Jewish or Russian institutions).

I'm wondering what the job market in heritage is like right now? Last summer in Kingston, I sent endless applications and took two months to get accepted to a museum, which was honestly luck. What's it like here in Napa now? I am going to live in the American Canyon with my aunt for a while.

The Business Behind the Bottle #1: People think owning a winery is glamorous. The reality is completely different.

What’s one thing people completely misunderstand about owning a winery?
I’ve been building and leading a winery for more than a decade, and one thing always makes me smile.
People assume my days are spent drinking wine, walking vineyards, and watching sunsets.
Those moments exist.
But they’re probably 5% of what I actually do.
The other 95% looks a lot like running any other business.
Hiring.
Forecasting.
Budgeting.
Inventory.
Customer service.
Leading a team.
Making difficult decisions with incomplete information.
Trying to stay true to the vision that inspired us in the first place.
One of the biggest lessons I’ve learned is that wine isn’t really the product.
People are.
The vineyard crew.
The winemaking team.
The hospitality staff.
The people packing shipments.
The members who have supported us for years.
Every bottle represents hundreds of decisions made by people most customers will never meet.
I also think social media creates a false impression of entrepreneurship. We mostly share harvest, events, and celebrations because they’re beautiful.
We rarely share the ordinary Tuesday spent working through budgets, solving staffing challenges, or deciding whether to invest in another employee or another piece of equipment.
Those are the moments that actually build a business.

I’m curious:
No matter what industry you’re in, what’s something people assume about your job that’s completely different from reality?

Places or clubs to make friends?

Howdy, I'm doing college in Napa and haven't had luck meeting or making friends. Driving tens of miles for trips south isn't appealing and there don't seem to be any bars for poor students around town :< . Could I get recommendations for places or clubs to go to see people around my age? 22

Anyone attend Bel Aire Elementary between 1976-79?

I was born in Napa and just curious if anyone else went to school there. I lived off Idlewild a couple blocks from the school. Went to Phillips for K-school but don't recall anything. Had a friend Bruce Ringsmith back then and Greg Titus. Greg was older tho.
