Tv shows/movies that represent debate well?

Is there any tv show or movie that properly and accurately represents debate in their films, specifically policy debate?

Everytime debate is mentioned it’s either about a smart kid that does it but isn’t shown or it’s a moment where a student educates a teacher during a debate meeting but none of it actually shows debate accurately

List of Relevant Philosophers

In this year's high school topic of National Health Insurance, I know the philosopher Foucalt will be very popular in regards to biopolitics and government surveillance of the public through NHI. I was a novice last year and my school doesn't teach us much about the K and other philosophical ideas. Here are some examples of what I mean: synoptic delusion, hyperobjectivity, semiotics (Baudrillard), Kant, Nietzche, and others. Would it be possible for someone to make a list of the most common K arguments in this sense or correct my categorization of these arguments if it's wrong?

I was wondering if anyone had contact information for Dartmouth JoRa or any information about their Quantum Entanglement K that they read r5 at the NDT this past season. Any help would be much appreciated.

Is it possible to go from 198 wpm to 234 wpm in a week?

Last year, I was reading my 1ac at 198 wpm. This year, to get through my entire 1ac, I need to read at 234 wpm. I have some practice rounds at a camp on the 9th and I’d like to be able to read my entire case by then. Ik the answer is probably to cut a card from the 1ac or trim the cards, but I don’t feel like doing that. Also, side question, with parent judges, should I be reading slower or does it ultimately not matter because I’ll be screwed anyways.

Faciality (Zombuddha) Aff Northview.

I recently came upon the unbroken file yesterday. DM me for a negotiation.

Edit: it's not the shitty one that has been passed around with horrible formatting; it's the real one.

I am a rising sophmore and want to run a k aff next year. What should I do to make or find a good k aff, and what are some good ideas for k affs. Also, are there any discord groups or anything that make affs for next year, specifically k affs, please tell me because I am very interested.

Thanks!

Made a free, nonpartisan tool that explains current bills to students, looking for a reality check from actual gov/civics teachers

I'm an independent developer, not a teacher, so I'm here for a reality check from people who do this every day. I built a free tool that tries to make current legislation relevant to high schoolers, and I want to know if it's actually any good.

It's called CapitolKey (capitolkey.org). You or a student can pull up real bills currently moving through Congress or a state legislature, and for each one it gives a plain-language summary, what happens if it passes or fails, why it might matter to that student, and a few civic actions. It's free, nonpartisan by design, and works without an account.

I'm not selling anything. What I'd love to know from social studies and civics teachers:

  • Would you ever use this in a lesson or assign it? Why or why not?
  • Is the reading level and framing right for high schoolers?
  • What's missing that would make it actually classroom-usable?
  • Any neutrality or accuracy concerns I should worry about?

Soft left ground under this year's topic?

Title, I'm thinking there could be good advocates for stuff about disabled individuals, undocumented immigrants, natives, Black people, etc. Do you think this will be common this season?

Card Mirror

Haven't seen the obligatory post yet so I thought I'd start the discussion.

Initial thoughts? Reactions? Will it replace Verbatim?

I've cut about ~30 cards with it, messed with settings, and simulated prep. So far I don't have many negative thoughts other than some qualms about aesthetics and some bugs I'm sure will be ironed out.

To me Card Sharing is absolutely a game changer. The ability to send your 1A a prep doc instantly is wizardish, let alone searching through all of your files.

Please consider supporting Truf so servers maintenance doesn't become financially burdensome.
