Are rosy really that easy to handle and manage?

Sorry for my poor English, but rosy boas are virtually unheard of in my country, but I often read or watch videos recommending them as a first snake.

Are they really that easy to handle and care for?

What do you like about having them, and what don't you like?

What positive and negative things have you discovered after having them for a while?

Stubborn Snake = Regurgitation

Not sure if there’s a solution for this, but I’m hoping there is! We got our noodle back in May and had a handful of successful feeds, but she also regurgitated twice during that time. We took her to the vet, and everything checked out fine.

While I thought her temperatures were good, I realized we’d been feeding her at dusk and the temperature in her enclosure was dropping overnight. I increased the wattage of her DHP and began monitoring the temperature throughout the night. Her warm hide stayed at 89 degrees all night, with the probe inside the hide. We also started feeding her in the afternoon and had several successful feeds!

Yesterday was feeding day, but she stayed in either her humid hide or a cork tunnel. I also have a probe in the tunnel, and while it isn’t intended to be a warm hide, it stays between 82 and 85 degrees. Unfortunately, this morning I found the regurgitated mouse in the cork tunnel.

We don’t touch her for 48 to 72 hours after feeding, so I’d rather not go into the enclosure and move her to the warm hide, especially when she isn’t choosing to go there on her own. Is there another way to encourage her to use the warm hide after eating so she can properly digest and keep her meals down? Huge thanks in advance for any and all ideas!

Curious if I overpaid for my girl?

She's a yearling Albino Harquahala. I ended up paying $490 for her. She was listed as 500. What do we think, is that a worthy price? 😛😅

My Rosy seems healthy, but she’s not growing?

I got my rosy in mid April, and she has been great so far - she eats well (1 small pinky per week), she’s active, she likes being handled, etc. she has a large enclosure and loves to climb and explore. Her humidity is around 45%, her basking rocks measure 89 degrees with a laser thermometer, and her cold side is at 72-75 during the day, dipping down to 67ish at night. She has hides on both the hot and cold sides of the enclosure, but she really only spends time in the hides on the hot side.
The only thing is, she hasn’t been growing. Since I got her she has never shed, and now she’s 11 months old and only weighs 25 grams. I didn’t weigh her when I got her, but looking at pictures she looks to be roughly the same size. Should I be concerned? Is there anything I should do? The pinky’s I have are 2.5 grams each, so a little on the small side for her weight, but I do have 80 more of them, should I feed her more often, or increase the frequency of feeding?

The only other thing is, when she was in quarantine i would find a little poop on the paper towel every week, but after moving her to reptile soil/sand mix, I have never found a single poop. I’m guessing she’s just hiding them or they’re buried somewhere, but also something I thought was off. She doesn’t look impacted or fat, and doesn’t act lethargic, so probably not related but I figured I’d mention it.

Replacing substrate?

How often do you replace substrate for your adult rosy? I spot clean the poops and sheds, but how often should I be replacing the whole enclosure? I’m using aspen.

Also, I just fed yesterday, how long should I wait to minimize the stress of this?

Thanks!

My rosy tried to viciously eat me alive!

I made the mistake of handling my hedgehog moments before I handled my snake. She could smell my rodent friend on my hands and started to strike at me. First time she ever bit me too, I was surprised but then I realized I must smell delicious to her lol.

(I was being over dramatic on the title to be funny. It didn’t even hurt. Next time I’ll wash my hands in between handling them haha)

Chili Pepper exploring my cluttered desk 😅

At least it provides the noodle some fun, he loves the lego cat and the corner (very dark and cozy, probably)

I Added Some More Plants to Ortus's Enclosure.

It was looking a but bare so I added some small succulents. Nothing spikey. Also added some more cleanup crew - clay springtails and dwarf white isopods.

How dry and how do?

Im current researching potential snakes to have as a pet. And so far im really loving this breed of snake; however, i found out Rosy Boas need 30-40% humidity or else they can get breathing infections. I live in Florida and my thermostat says my apartment is usually at 50% humidity.

Does this mean I would need a lot of equipment to make a dry enough terrarium for my snakes to thrive? How do yall keep your rosy boas dry?
