Merging of 2 networks
Hi i have currently x2 2gbps lines installed with 2 seperate routers which technically gives me a total of 4gbps is it possible to combine these to make a real 4gbps output? I currently use 1 line for my server setup and 1 line for my personal use and other house hold devices but id like if possible to know if its possible to merge the 2 lines with a 3rd party device go make 4gbps?
Rate my server
My server is a crappy old macbook air with an intel chip, and a 5TB hard drive lol.
10K GPU to run AI locally.
Hello everyone, I need an upgrade from an nvidia A10 running on a SR650 7x06. I have:
- 2× Intel Xeon Silver 42
- 4× 64GB DDR4 @ 3200 MHz
My company has a 10keuros budget and I really don't know much about server hardware. The models (llm, reranker, embedding) I will run will depend on the GPU purchase.
I have 2x750W PSU that I will also have to upgrade.
Dell 240/340
Is dell 240 or 340 good model for normal operations?
Is it worth upgrading a home server from i3 10100 to either i5 10500 or i7 10700?
Im running Immich and Palworld server on it currently, with plans to run more tools and game servers.
It's a Shuttle DH410 mini pc I got super cheap for 60 euro, it's running 12GB of RAM at the moment with 32 on its way (found 2 16GB 3200 sticks on 55 euro each)
Currently there is no issue with performance but I'm worried that soon it will struggle if I try to run more servers on it.
Looking for HPE XL170r Gen10 and DL160 Gen10 CPLD Firmware
Hi everyone,
I’m looking for CPLD firmware for the following HPE Gen10 servers:
- HPE ProLiant XL170r Gen10: CPLD firmware version 22 or newer
- HPE ProLiant DL160 Gen10: CPLD firmware version 0x10 or newer
I’m trying to configure Intel Optane Persistent Memory, but the required CPLD firmware versions no longer seem to be publicly available. From what I understand, HPE now restricts these downloads to systems with an active warranty or support contract.
Since I purchased the servers second-hand, I do not have access to those downloads.
Does anyone have these firmware files archived? Alternatively, if you own one of these servers with the required CPLD version already installed, would it be possible to export or dump the firmware and share it with me?
I would greatly appreciate any help or information.
English is not my native language, so please excuse any mistakes.
Enterprise SSD‘s for my homelab
A question for the pros. I got these 2 SSDs from a server, where they were in use until recently. Now I've removed them and would like to format them to use in my home server. However, they aren't being detected anywhere—not under Windows, not in the BIOS, and not under Linux. Does anyone have an idea what else I could try?
Serverless Bill Shock: Tracking Edge Function and Database Expirations (Vercel, Supabase, Netlify, Neon)
For over two decades, agency hosting economics were beautifully predictable. You bought a reseller web server or dedicated cPanel account for $50 a month, crammed 30 client WordPress sites onto it, and charged each client a flat $25 monthly maintenance fee. Your margins were clear, your server bills were static, and billing surprises were virtually non-existent. Read the comple te article here > Serverless Bill Shock: Track Vercel & Supabase Client Costs | InstaRenewal
Then came the modern web stack.
Driven by the demand for lightning-fast digital experiences, agencies aggressively migrated to decoupled architectures: Next.js, Nuxt, Vercel, Supabase, Cloudflare Workers, and serverless databases like Neon. While the performance gains of this modern paradigm are undeniable, it introduced a chaotic operational reality: micro-subscription fragmentation and variable utility billing.

Not for profit dental clinic needs a new server, help me pick one!
Hi all, I work for a not for profit dental clinic and our server (our VERY old server) is on its last legs and we've been told we need to purchase a new one. We've been given three quotes, but I've got no idea how to compare the three based on our needs. We run backups daily (about 250GB of X-ray imaging, notes, etc.) and are looking for something that will last, and something that is suited to our needs and budget. we got three quotes, but I am ignorant of their specs and need help knowing if what was suggested will met our needs, will over perform, or will under perform. Our budget is flexible, but we want to be good stewards of the money we've received to make this purchase.

How to make a server for under 10 people for messaging?
Hello, i had the great idea ofaking a private messaging app for my friend group, but i don't know where to start. Collectively we have android and iphones, so i was thinking a website with login info to access, but what tools would i use to do all of this?
What would be the best way to make a profit?
Purchased two server racks from a friend and am looking to profit from them should i gut them or keep it all together? And where would be a good place to post them?
Edit: Im currently at work and haven’t had enough time to look at them but all i know is they are both dell and said like 2018 techmikeny.
HPE ProLiant DL380 Gen10 + Nvidia PNY A4500(200W)
About a year ago i grabbed a fully built DL380 off Facebook, dual Xeon Gold 5128, hdd bays full, 2x800 psu, 512GB hpe 32gb sticks...and the important part - the pcie riser for video cards.
fast forward - i came up with an ai project about a month ago, and i decided i was going to turn this thing into an ai cruncher. next thing to do was settle on a video card - this is where i really screwed the pooch.
This is where i didnt do my due diligence - I used gemini to help me find a video card - decided id settle on A4500 -
the problem: pcie will only power 75w.
Per the build sheet, this isnt a GPU enabled motherboard. The J95 header is missing for an aftermarket card.
so now i have to come up with a way to power this card while in the rack. I was wondering if any of you had some solutions? I can always buy a PSU from the local pc shop to plug into the card externally and make a jumper switch to turn it on but im hoping for a something a little more contained to the DL380.
As always, any help is appreciated and forgive the broken english. easier to speak my thoughts as they come than try to satisfy other peoples grammar boners. thanks a.d.d.
edit: yes, they do make a cable kit for 150 bucks that google will tell you allows you to use it, and after 45 minutes of searching where to plug it in, thats when i realized i dont have the J95 header and theres no traces to where it would be so i cant just solder it in.
Screaming PSUs
So I have an old chenbro NR40700 server chassis and I'm wondering if there is an easyish way to tone down the screaming 1U PSUs?
I tried the fan swap but they didn't spin when I put them into the PSUs
Theses are the fans I tried to use to replace the stock fans.
HP ProLiant DL380p Gen8 – Reusing the same drive caddy when replacing a failed disk
Hi everyone,
I have an HP ProLiant DL380p Gen8 with a hard drive showing a predictive failure. I want to replace it with another compatible used drive, but I don't have an extra caddy/tray.
Can I remove the failing drive, unscrew it from its HP Smart Carrier/caddy, install the replacement drive in the same caddy, and then put it back into the server?
My main concern is the time the drive slot will remain empty while I remove the 4 screws and mount the replacement drive. Could those few minutes affect the running server, VMs, or RAID rebuild?
The array is RAID 1 / RAID 1+0, and the server is currently running.
Thanks for any advice or experience with this.
If you were building your first on-prem environment again, what would you do differently?
We have two Dell R740xd servers on the way, and I’m planning out the infrastructure before they arrive.
Each server:
- Dell PowerEdge R740xd 24-bay SFF
- 2x Xeon Gold 6132 — 28 cores total
- 256GB ECC RAM
- 2x 3.84TB 12G SAS SSDs
- HBA330 non-RAID controller
- 2x 480GB M.2 SSDs on BOSS-S1
- Tesla V100 32GB
- Dual-port 25GbE Mellanox ConnectX-4
- Dual 1100W PSUs
- iDRAC9 Enterprise
Our current situation is pretty makeshift: most of our internal services are running on an Ubuntu Server VM, which itself is running on Windows Server on older hardware. That VM holds Docker containers with things like n8n, Metabase, internal web apps, databases, Caddy + OAuth proxy, etc.
Right now I’m leaning toward Proxmox + ZFS, with most workloads running in VMs/Docker. The two hosts would provide redundancy, with separate backups as well. Kubernetes is something I’ve considered, but I don’t want to introduce it just for the sake of having Kubernetes.
What I’m really interested in is: if you had built an environment like this before and could go back and give yourself advice before installing anything, what would you tell yourself?
Is Proxmox the route you’d take again? What decisions around storage, networking, HA, backups, DNS, reverse proxies, authentication/SSO, monitoring, secrets, etc. ended up mattering way more than you expected?
Basically trying to avoid getting six months into this and thinking “damn, I really wish I had done X instead of Y from the beginning.”
Curious how you guys would build this if you were starting fresh today.
I am trying to connect a 3.5" SAS Drive to my PC. What do i need?
Im on a 300-400 dollar budget, and im new to server making.
I just need to have a basic list of hardware I need in order to connect it to my PC.
IBM x3500 M4 remote control
I got the IBM for free and I was trying to set it up so that I don't need a monitor to control it. I was trying to set up the remote control through IMM but it appears it is a "premium" feature which needs a separate board with an activation key. I was wondering is there a way around it so that I could control the ibm (access bios, turn on off and just remotely control it) from my main pc through the imm port or something along the lines. Or is there a way to get the activation key for free somehow?
Separate NAS and Compute or Combined
Me and my buddy are setting up a server rack at his house. We have some enterprise grade servers and are trying to figure out how we want to have them set up. My buddy says he wants to use Unraid for the main server and possibly make that the only server combining the NAS into it. I’m recommending we have the main compute server running Unraid and then another one of the servers run TrueNAS for storage since we have multiple servers already. Wanted to get some opinions on it since we’re at a crossroads.
We plan to mainly use AMP for game hosting and Plex for streaming. We will probably add more but that is what we want to have running at the moment.
Here is our current hardware that we have:
1x Ubiquiti UniFi Dream Machine Special Edition Cloud Gateway
1x Poweredge R730XD
3x Poweredge R720XD (One of which has 22 working 1.2tb 600mb read/write hard drives)
1x 24U server rack
