Cohabing zebra skinks

I just acquired 2 very young zebra skinks at an expo, I have some experience with pairing geckos and working with communal animals but I have questions about whether it’s something I should try or not.

The breeder I purchased from has had great success and even has a 2 male and 2 female group going very strong

I hope on trying, once they’re older as long as I don’t end up with 2 males. I’ve seen a lot of mixed things on this and I know co-habbing is a controversial topic but I felt comfortable from the breeders experiences and I have a fair amount of reptile experience.

Thank you for any advice!

Thirsty blue-tongued skink

Fractus was pretty thirsty this morning. Never underestimate how much these guys drink. He drank for about 3-4 minutes this morning taking short breaks to lift up his head, Im assuming to aid in swallowing it all. All 3 of mine do this on a daily basis. Make sure you always have fresh water for them.

Space for future emeralds

Just finished setting up this 36x18x36 bioactive planned for a female pair of skinks. While I give it time to grow in, what are good places to look for captive bred skinks ideally sexed. Seems pretty limited out there and I worry about getting potentially two males, or a breeding pair and hear everywhere that keeping them in a group is better than a single one.

Schneider skink 1.1?

I’m hoping that I got a good 1.1 pair. This is their 3rd time being in the same enclosure. What do you guys think?

2 months now with this guy!

I posted him previously and was told he was nothing over 3 months and most likely an Indonesian, he was a rehoming so I knew nothing previously!

He’s very timid, i’ve been worried handling him because he’s very skittish. It’s hard to get him out of his enclosure but he won’t eat while he’s inside of it so I was wondering if anybody has any tips? He hisses a ton as well

Also, regarding eating, I’m pretty it’s he’s super picky. the only thing he’s been avid about eating ONCE was a can of Redford cat food. I’ve tried freeze dried raw rabbit nuggets I had for my dog as a topped and he would sort of lick it and open his mouth at it but didn’t show any further interest. I also don’t think he cares much for bugs, I’ve tried dubia roaches, super worms, horn worms, and crickets. I have to cut them in half for him to take it but he won’t take as many as he should be eating.

USCBB T. gigas gigas just born!

💥🥳Introducing our first 2026 litter—and a first for us—Ambon Blue-Tongued skinks (Tiliqua gigas gigas)! These spicy, beautiful little babies were produced out of Pico de Gallo and Phoenix. 🥳💥

Pico has the classic Tiliqua gigas gigas color and pattern with a lot of black freckles, while Phoenix has a more unique color mutation. We will be holding back her offspring a little longer to document their color development.

Phoenix had a gestation of 131 days! We are assuming she gave birth late last night as all the babies had eaten their yolks when we found them this morning.

This litter is named after peppers 🌶

☆Banana (pepper)

☆Carolina Reaper

☆Cayenne

☆Chili

☆Ghost

☆Habanero

☆Jalapeño

☆Tabasco

Can't wait to see how they develop!

Is this an invasive species?

For context, I live in North Africa and every summer I catch dozens of these around the house and I think this one is the biggest I caught and I just wanna know what species it is and why is there an abundance of them in this region. Also can this be a pet?

New Skink, Who Dis?

The substrate is temporary dw, I’m gonna be getting a better one shortly. This guy ran straight up my arm and onto my head as soon as I unboxed him! Really looking forward to interacting with him once he’s settled in 🥰 he’s my first skink! Unsure what to call him

Southern rainbow skink

I believe this is a southern rainbow skink, found on a hay bale in Victoria Australia. I have never seen a skink with these colours here before.

Emerald green tree skink

I've been setting up a 36x18x36 bioactive for a pink tongue, but I think I'm going to house an emerald green instead because I love the heavy planting and want something more delicate, along with the space being more spacious for one. Is it ok to house these guys alone? Or should i definitely have at least two? Also if I had two females do I need two separate distinct basking areas?

The child is upset thats she's confined to paper towel jail. She wants sympathy.

I noticed her toe looked swollen yesterday night, I rinsed it off and put a bit of antibiotic ointment. Then put her back in her bioactive last night (admittedly a bad idea). Today it looked worse, thus an hour of a warm betadine bath. It looked much less inflamed post soak and I was able to see the scratch. Hopefully it doesnt take long to heal. Wish her luck for her poor little toe.

Odd Breathing

Hi, so… I’ve never owned a skink before- Just leopard geckos and a crested gecko. My new boy’s breathing looks concerning and I’m worried about him. Is this ok/normal?? Should I take him to a vet? His basking spot (where he spends the majority of his time) is set to 100* from an overhead heat source and doesn’t get above 107* while the cool side of his enclosure sits at around 77*. He’s got fresh water and I just offered him food. If it helps he was previously given cat food by the person I got him from, but I’m leaving him a few dusted mealworms (waiting until I can get ahold of better feeders) and a torn up spinach leaf in a food bowl.

Editing to note; this breathing is not constant!

Weight question

I’m wondering if anyone monitors the weight of their skink. I have an 11 month old male (my vet thinks) Ivory and is fed Monday Wednesday and Friday and will soon be moving to 1-2 times a week when he turns 1, but I’m wondering how much weight should he go down in between feeding and if it’s a lot like 15-20grams should I be on high alert or is that normal?

Tail Regrowth Progress

When Pharoah first dropped his tail I started to try and find reference pictures for what to expect a healthy tail regrowth process to look like, but I had a lot of trouble finding anything. I found a few fresh tail drop pictures from Blue Tongues, but that was about it. My herpatology textbook has a CT scan of a partially regrown tail, but I don't have a CT scanner 🤣

SO! In an effort to help anyone in the future who has a regenerating tail, I'm taking a LOT of pictures of the little guys nub. The tail drop happened May 12th, on the site of a previous injury (rehab animal). Most recent picture is from a day or two ago, so about a month and a bit post drop.

A description of the process so far:

No bleeding occurred at all during the drop. All I did was do a quick rinse with an animal safe wound cleaner to make sure it was sterile and nothing got caught in it. The wound scabbed over. The scales kinda curled in at the very end and the whole thing looked raw and sore for the first week. Eventually an entire cap of scale and scab fell off of the tip, and left pink scale-less skin underneath. Then the new growth started to become visible. Per my herp textbook, this initial structure is actually cartilage, not bone! He's sleeping a lot during this process, but I'm not sure how much to attribute that to the tail regeneration energy vs all the other healing he's doing.
