Well there ya have it folks! It's a supercar.

Well there ya have it folks! It's a supercar.

Looks like even the base stingray is a supercar, at least that's what the license plate says. Personally I think anything below the C8 Z06 is not a supercar but hey that's just me. I also happen to own a C8 Z06 so you could say I'm partial.

Seen these monsters at George Bush Intl

The AMG GT and the Hurucan Tecnica I saw at the Houston Airport in parking after I left the terminal. Really cool stuff.

If you're gonna implement manual-by-wire gearbox in a car, Ferrari should give you these choices:

  1. You should be allowed to optionally spec the car in such a way that 'manual mode' is the only way to drive the car. You can't drive in auto mode. The car can only be driven in manual mode despite the gearbox being a DCT.

  2. The option to choose between standard H-pattern layout or dogleg layout, since the shifter is not mechanically connected to the gearbox. There are people who love the dogleg layout, so let them enjoy it.

Audi R8 Understated supercar presence 5.2-litre V10. No gimmicks.

Spotted this R8 at Thruxton Circuit Supercar Day.

Funny thing is, with all the other supercars around it, it was almost easy to miss at first. In a car park full of louder shapes and colours,

I don’t think this would be the first one most people walk over to. But close up, it was a different story.

The matte black, the aero, carbon bits, the visible V10 under the glass… lots of small details that don’t really shout from a distance. You kind of need to stop and look at it properly.

That’s what I liked about it. It doesn’t scream “look at me”, but it still has presence. More like it knows what it is.

Probably one of the better modified R8s I’ve seen. Not sure everyone will agree, but for me it worked.

Too subtle, or just right?

AC Cobra replica with a Chevy 383 stroker V8

Spotted this AC Cobra replica recently and the owner had a very detailed spec board with it, which made it more interesting than just another Cobra-shaped car.

According to the board, it is a Dax Tojeiro completed in 2013, finished in Magneto pearlescent blue with ceramic white Le Mans stripes. The engine is a Chevy 383ci / 6.3-litre V8 stroker crate engine from British American Engines, dyno tested at around 485 bhp and 450 lb-ft of torque.

A few other details from the build: Edelbrock alloy heads and manifold, Edelbrock 750 cfm carburettor, Getrag 5-speed manual gearbox, limited-slip differential, stainless side pipes, 18-inch Hallibrand-style alloys, and electric power-assisted steering.

Obviously not an original AC Cobra, but I think that is part of what makes these builds interesting. It is more of a personal interpretation of the Cobra idea — classic shape, modern/modified running gear, and someone’s own decisions all over it.

Not subtle, but probably not meant to be.

Super V/s GT

I've always wanted a cool car. I'm in my mid forties now. Never been a boy racer fan but some of the most aesthetically cool cars were supercars and I was under the impression they were becoming easier to live with all the time. Two things have always been true, nearly every single online research arena or tv/youtube reviewer has called the 911 the ultimate, most practical, most livable supercar. They also claim other cars require more compromises than the 911.

Here's the kicker, I rented a 911 (992.1 4S) and drove it over a weekend. Mix of city, highway and backroad driving and it was a revelation. In the bends, it was amazing, no understeer at all. I had never experienced that in BMW's and mercs etc. But man, it was so unbeliebably harsh and loud. So much road noise filtering in. So much vibration.

If this is what they call 'livable', i don't know what 'compromised' is. Yes, kids were fine in the back seats. Yes, visibility is good, Yes, the tech works and the build quality is great, but those things have been fixed in most modern cars today, haven't they? (maybe not the back seats).

I'm back to square one in my research. That level of harshness is simply not livable daily. I mean, the percentage of times i'll be enjoying it on back roads is just miniscule to compromise the daily driving THAT much. Curious to hear from others.
