8 bit Workbench™ ED: explore number systems

I designed this device that teaches binary, decimal, hexadecimal and octal number systems. It uses a hands-on approach with Altair-like toggle switches. Can be used as a STEM-kit in classrooms, handy for programmers or for the retro hobbyist. It also has a built-in game. Check out the video for details, hope you like it.

Is the Xbox 360 old enough to be considered retro?

2005 was only 21 years ago, right?

Anyways, this is my Falcon motherboard fat Xbox 360 console, manufactured in 2007.

This Xbox has been in my family for a long time, and has a really interesting backstory behind it. My dad was a garbage man from around 2005 to 2015. He hated the job, but one of his favorite slacking activities was landfill diving. He managed to find this 360 in the landfill around 2009, abandoned by a wealthy family. He took it home, and noticed that it was perfectly good, no RRoD or anything, the hard drive had only gone bad, so he bought a brand new hard drive from our local GameStop and the rest is history. This became the family Xbox until we got an XBOne in 2014, and this Falcon got handed down to me as my personal Xbox.

I personally love the 360, I think it's the best consoles of all time. It has an amazing library of games, including HD ports of PS2 classics that you wouldn't find on the PS3 or Wii, such as NFS:HP (2005, unlike the 2012 reboot you see in my game stack), and Bully. Plus, it has an amazing community, and groundbreaking modding support.

I installed BadUpdate on it so I could run the Blades dashboard instead of the hideous Metro dashboard, as well as run mods for games such as SVR07, and run games off the hard drive too instead of discs.

Also shown here is my current collection of games (I have even more in my attic), my digital games, and I also booted up the Metro dashboard so I can show off my Avatar (if anybody even cares about those)

And yes, that is a custom background. It's suprisngly not that well known that you can set custom backgrounds on the 360 dashboard.

Rescued Three More Working Sets!

Earlier today, I went to my local electronics recycling center yet again! This time, I ended up finding a JVC Master Command III, model number C-1329, a Sharp VCR combo, model number 13VT-F40, and a 5" GPX CRT, model number TVP2K! All three units have been tested and work perfectly!

Another vintage 1990 286 12Mhz

I bought this one for 10€ non-tested, had a leaking CMOs battery and broken CCFL lamp.
The battery acid damage was minor, only knocking out the parallel port and VGA port.
I changed the lamp with an LED trip and added a 256MB CF card. What else should with it? Don’t be afraid to ask questions!

I got another TV

That makes my fourth CRT, and this is a kind I've been looking for for a good price for a while, so I was glad to get it for 7.50. it was 21 for everything in the third photo, though that grey camera had really bad corrosion, and when I pulled the batteries out the contacts broke off. (That film expired 26 years ago, the disposable camera 16)

Late 2000s Home theatre setup

The star of the setup here is my Sony BDV-IT1000ES Home Theatre System. This is an all in one Receiver/Blu-ray player and is also a 5.1 Surround system with wireless surround amplifier unit that receives uncompressed radio frequencies (S-AIR) from the main unit. Really is a one of a kind system that Sony abandoned due to very high price during release ($2,000 USD during 2008) and also causing low sales.

Rare to come across but i was very lucky to find on facebook marketplace for $60. Sounds absolutely beautiful especially when use my Turntable to listen to my records. Music CDs sound great on it too. I have yet to buy Blu-rays to test that out.

My TV is a Vizio VP322 Plasma from 2008. It is 720p and screen size is 32 inches. It was a budget model that has rather unimpressive black levels. It is however vibrant in color and looks much better than any older LCD TVs from that era. This is one of the smallest Plasmas ever made and is also quite rare. Paid $20 for it on facebook marketplace and i was pleasantly surprised how good 6th and 7th gen consoles look on it.

Also excuse the PS2 lol i should’ve put my wii or PS3 there to make it more late 2000s accurate but i was too lazy to disconnect and remove them from the display organizer.

What's your favorite early 2000s media player program?

Image one: Windows Media Player 9 (2003)

Image two: Winamp 2.91 (2003)

Image three: RealPlayer 7.0 (2000)

Image four: Musicmatch Jukebox 6.1 (2001)

You can also probably guess my favorite song and cartoon by these images :3
