Shopmax SC0050

Good morning all. On Friday I decided to break and buy a Dewalt 735x Planer. So far it’s one of the machines I LOVE running in the shop and is very satisfying. The not so satisfying part is the clean up of debris the planer spits out. I’m trying to find a dust collection system that won’t break the bank as the planer just cost me a pretty penny. I saw this on 731 Woodworking YouTube and wanted to know if anyone had tried this thing? I’m also in a two car garage that cars still come in and out of, so it can’t be huge either.

Machinist Squares Oil

Received a set of machinist squares the other day and I’m disappointed with the amount of oil on them.

But I’d be more disappointed if they rusted.

Wondering if I cleaned them up and use MD 40 Specialist Dry Lube or Bostic Glide Coat if those are effective against rust.

Another option would be aluminum machineist squares, but I haven’t been able to find any.

Table saw runs backwards

I need some help, Mabe this is the wrong place to ask but I figured I'd give it a try. I put this table saw back together from parts that were given to me. But the Motor runs CCW viewed from the drive end which turns the blade backwards. I have it wired for 250v and I confirmed that I'm getting this voltage from the wall socket. Two 125v wires red and black. I've tried various things from another Reddit forum. Switching black and yellow. No change. Switching grey and black(motor did not turn at all). Switch black and grey and also red and yellow. Still no change. Is it even possible? Black and grey have continuity about 0.5ohm and red and yellow have continuity 0.5 ohm? There are two capacitors attached to the side. I believe I'm trying to reverse the starting relay. Please let me know if it's somehow possible to get this thing to spin cw.

Ordering large machines on Amazon

I’m looking for experiences or thoughts on ordering large machines from Amazon. I’m looking to buy a Powermatic 8” Jointer, the parallelogram model PJ-882HH and surprisingly it’s available to purchase on Amazon. But I’ve never ordered anything that large or that requires freight delivery from Amazon before and I’m not sure about it.

I’ve had several freight deliveries to my house before but I usually order direct from the manufacturers (Grizzly a couple times, and Puma for a 60 gallon compressor). All were shipped via TForce freight, which I honestly don’t love because they’re communication/scheduling is bad. You can tell they’re more set up for business/commercial customers than residential (always ask for business name and operating hours and I have to remind them I’m just a guy with a house). Ive usually had to call a couple times and remind them to schedule my delivery. But the actual deliveries have worked fine. They have lift gate and while it says curbside, they put it on a pallet jack and into my garage (easy driveway access).

Ordering from Amazon is attractive because their tracking is usually better, although I think they use 3rd-party carriers for freight anyway (possibly TForce?). And it’s just more familiar. But I’m worried that because it’s not really the sort of thing that’s Amazon’s main focus either. I’ve heard their curbside is ACTUALLY curbside, which would be a problem as the jointer shipping weight is almost 800 lbs. I could rent a pallet jack but that’s a pain. I also expect Amazon will put more responsibility on the seller, which actually appears to be Powermatic anyway, so I could just be adding extra complication for no reason.

If anyone has tried ordering full size machines from Amazon, I’d love to hear your experience. This is obviously a big purchase and I want to make sure I do what I can to make it go well.

Makita 40v 260mm drop saw

I have aligned the saw to be square, but it seems that the saw dips out when you pull it all the way back, to all the way back in, it kind of veers off, causing a binding cut, anyone else have this issue?

Need a surface conditioning tool dust collection attachment like this (AI was used)

I am restoring a vehicle in my garage. I need to remove paint and other material that will create lots of dust. A surface conditioning tool like this one is the most efficient, faster than an angle grinder with a dust shroud.

I have tried very hard without success to find a shop vac attachment that will help with dust removal. This seems like something someone with 3D printer ingenuity could create, but my efforts have come up goose eggs.

Anyone know of or can suggest an attachment for a standard HEPA shop vac? I have shown some AI imaginings but they do not take into account that the tool can be used in vertical and angled positions and not just horizontally so the shroud needs to permit 45 degrees of vertical rotation of the conditioning drum.

Cabinet Saw: Harvey HW100S or Sawstop PCS

I’m looking to pull the trigger on a cabinet saw and have it down to two options, the Harvey HW100S or a SawStop PCS

They are both the same price here in Australia. But Harvey seems very new here, so I’m not sure what support will be like.

The Harvey has my attention mainly due to the big eye fence, and the nickel plated top which *should* do well in our humid climate.

The sawstop has a smaller motor, and shorter rails. But it’s above what I realistically need anyway. The safety then is quite appealing

Does anyone have any experience with both? I’m ultimately interested in a high quality cabinet saw that I won’t have to fight to keep accurate, and keep for 10+ years

Tool Sale - 13 in. Dewalt 735 Thickness Planer and Ridgid 6 in. Jointer

These tools are too heavy to ship, so only local pickup is being offered for these two tools. I live in Tooele, Utah. So if you're near take a look. I am selling them because I don't use them as I've adopted a more hand tool focused woodworking shop due to shop size. These are both like new/gently used. Here are the KSL Classified Links

Ridgid 6 in Jointer

Dewalt 735 13 in Thickness Planer

Both of these tools have worked great for me and they both have stands with wheels for rolling around the workshop.

Edit: Fixed the link for the Thickness Planer. Sorry about that...

Which bandsaw to sell?

I recently got 2 bandsaws for free, and am planning on selling one. Anyone have advice on which one is better? I don’t know too much about the brands or models in particular, leaning towards keeping the craftsman

Damaged router cable

I happened to cause damage to the cable of my woodworking router. Still works like it used to. Any suggestions on what to do?

Jointer upgrade. Excited.

Upgraded from the legendary Ridgid to a Jet Helical. Unreal difference in user experience and output quality. I feel like I just took the training wheels off my bike.

DW735 Circuit Breaker Issue

I am replacing the circuit breaker on my DE735. When I got it apart, I found what appears to be burn damage on the line connector (pictured).

I know very little about electronics, but this seems like a problem. This is a short cable that connects to the on/off switch box. Should I replace the cable or is this normal? Is there anything else I should be looking into?

Dust extraction / blade guard

Hey all. I’m looking for ideas or actual
Products that will help me in a couple ways. One obviously is dust extraction, but also to help with safety. Short story is I’ve recently been diagnosed with ocular Mayathenia gravis. Which gives me double vision if both eyes are open. If I cover one eye I’m ok to see but have little to no depth perception. Which as imagined is not the best thing in the world for using sharp spinning things.
I’ve seen a couple you tubers that have these dust extraction shrouds that cover the table say blade. Which may help but I was wondering if anyone has or has seen something like this that will act as a blade guard to keep my digits safer. Like one that would ride flush with the surface of the material or maybe slightly above for less friction but also keep my fingers from possible relocation.
I don’t want to stop woodworking as it’s already taken me out of work as a machinist and driving. So this is about all I have left. Not to mention all the cash invested in this hobby.
Any info and or ideas would be most appreciated. Or even anyone dealing with OMG ( yep … actually a thing ) and has found solid work arounds.
Thanks in advance.

Aligning blade to miter slot on Jet JWTS-10 table saw

I recently acquired a Jet JWTS-10 table saw from a school that cleared out their storage area. The saw is in good shape, but the blade to miter slot is 80 thousandths out of parallel as measured with a dial indicator.

Can someone explain how to adjust this? The arbor bolts on the back of the saw are easy to get to. On the front of the saw not so much. However, there are two connecting rods that go from front to back that look to me like an adjustment mechanism. Can someone point me in the right direction on this? Both how to use these if that is the case, and also how do you get to the arbor bolts in the front of the saw?

Am I better off completely disassembling the saw? I am sure it was manhandled in the past, and one of the wings looks like it may have either been dropped or fell at some point.

The owners manual says that if the blade is not parallel to the slot to adjust it, but no directions on how to perform that.

Thanks!
