Metabo-Hpt
I live in Virginia. Metabo-HPT cordless platform seems to be really getting popular. I am wondering if they are as good as I am being told. What do you all think?

Never used a table saw and wasn’t planning on buying one but just came across this in our local thrift store and thought I might consider it. What do you think about this particular one? It’s $85. Would you buy it?
I have an old (working) central machinery drill press model 919. I cant figure out how to loosen tension on the belt to replace/change speed. Anyone used one of these?
Patent says 1982. Central Machinery 5 speed drill press model 919. No other labeling or marking.
Where do you guys find used woodworking machines? Like larger jointers/planers or cabinets shop table saws?
I recently bought a Makita DLS211 and I’m trying to dial in the accuracy.
When the saw is kept close to the fence, cuts are perfectly square.
But as soon as I pull the head forward on the rails for a wider cut, the angle starts drifting.
I measured about 1.5 mm of deviation over the cut, which seems pretty huge for a saw in this price range.
I already checked the fence alignment, and the issue only appears when the saw is extended on the sliders.
Has anyone experienced this with the DLS211?
Is this usually caused by rail alignment, play in the carriage/head, or something else that can be calibrated?
Or does this sound like a warranty issue?
Hi i have an older dayton tabletop drill press and would like to put in a keyless chuck. Is this possible?
Curious if anybody knows what could possibly be wrong with my 13 inch portable Wood planer. I used it about a month ago and everything was fine when I tried to use it today, the motorhead won’t move up or down. There’s a lot of resistance when I try to turn the crank. I took it apart to make sure there’s nothing was stuck. Everything is lubed. any help is appreciated.
I bought this bandsaw for 100 bucks to help with this project. I replaced some crusty guide bearings, put a Timberwolf 3/4 tpi blade on it, and i was actually pretty surprised at how well it did. Ive been using it for lots of other things but finally got around to the big resaw job today. The blade even left a pretty nice surface so i have minimal planing to do now. If anyone is considering a small bandsaw for their shop i definitely recommend this one, and if you can get it used for 100 bucks its a no brainer. I'll be using this a lot, most of my projects are smaller and dont need a full 3/4" thick board. Being able to quickly resaw to 1/2 or 3/8 will help keep my projects a bit lighter and elegant, not to mention the utility of cutting nice curves!
Hello all. Long time listener, first time caller. I’m working on a little project that I could use some advice on. The stock I’m working on is 6cm thick camphor, and 6cm thick zelkova. I need to put a hole 6-7cm in diameter all the way through the material.
My first thought was a 7cm forstner, but given the size, I would absolutely need a drill press. I don’t have that much faith in my drill to try to bore through with torquing my shoulder out of its socket when it bites the wood…The best one I can find for my space is a 600w unit, with its slowest speed being 700 rpm. I’m trying to avoid any large purchases on tools that won’t get much use if I can.
That being said, I’m looking for other options.
I have a dewalt corded plunge router, and the max trimmer also by dewalt. I figure I could just throw a simple jig on it and route the diameter of the circle, flip it over and route the other side. If there’s any material left between the cuts, a hole saw would probably finish it off?
What type of bit would be best for this? I’ve seen various bits longer than 3cm, but I guess that’s purpose related.
Thanks for any input.
So I've been on the hunt for a bandsaw for a while and this morning on the hunt I found Norsebox. It's one of those stupid quarterly box subscriptions of random crap from what I can find through Google about them. Apparently they sell tools also. They have the RIKON 10-326 for $727 shipped free. I'm skeptical to say the least, but they are backed by SHOP so I'm not sure it's absolutely a scam or not.
I currently own the TSO gen 1 parallel guides and my biggest complaint is calibration and getting it to hold calibration is the biggest issue. When I calibrate them with a combination square set to a know dimension say 10”. After I have them calibrated and then adjust it to my actual dimension it seems like it looses it calibration. It’s out like >1/16” over 8’. With the gen 2 does it hold better calibration? And changing out the flip stops will that alleviate the problem or do you need to upgrade the entire system which I dont feel like replacing. Much rather resort to making the cuts on my table saw which was the reason for getting the parallel guides so I didn’t have to wrestle with sheet goods. Thanks
Out with the old and in with the less older.
Hi all,
I’ve been looking at the dewalt portable table saw (with the wheels) but am wondering what people have to say about it or if there are other recommendations?
I have other dewalt handheld power tools but it’s not like this uses the same batteries so I’m not really attached to the brand.
I’m just looking to do household things like cutting boards for shelving and plywood etc
Also looking for buying tips for places or how to get it cheaper 🤣 currently TSC seems to be cheapest and my work rewards have some gift cards on discount for there as well (and lowes right now) but if there’s something else to look for I’m into it.
Hello Everyone. I have always enjoyed perusing this sub but this is my first post so hopefully this is being done correctly.
I have two brand new Oliver Machinery tools for sale. By the time I received them I ended up falling into two other machines and I would love these to find a new home. They are still in their crates and I will gladly help coordinate freight shipping (also available for pickup in NC).
•15" Planer w/Oliver HCX Helical Cutterhead
•8" Parallelogram Jointer w/Oliver HCX Helical Cutterhead
They are available for well under MSRP and if someone has questions - please don’t hesitate to ask.
Looking for $6000 for both or best offer. Open to selling individually as well.
Thank you!
After years of watching my father neglect this, I’ve decided to see if I can restore it to working condition.
I’m hoping to get some idea of where to start the repairs, or if I should even make the attempt.
While it would be awesome to have my own tilting table saw (without the expensive price), I really don’t want to risk dismemberment by a tool that should been scrapped.
Hopefully, someone here can help me figure out if it’s safe to try repairing or if it should be going out to the curb.
Thanks in advance to anyone who replies!
Nooby trying to make a no 4 work. I’ve revisited this iron a few times in the last couple weeks. There have been a few “almost ok”shaves taken, but the more i read the more i think i might need to get the back side more flat. Do I see a bit of a hollow near the edge on the right side?
My resources are: Sandpaper and some countertop cutoffs, and two DMT stones course and extra fine.
I’ve been wanting to buy the Katz-Moses apron, but it seems like every time I jump on the site it’s sold out.

Do y’all use one? Do you like it? Who’s the manufacturer?
I prefer to support small business, $50 from KM seemed like a killer deal.
Thoughts? Any alternatives you’d recommend?
It’s 14 inches long with a 2 inch blade, which I consider a No.5 in my book. It has very few markings, but all the parts are there. Made in Canada. “C44” on the underside of the frog at the bottom edge, and a “1” near the top of the frog underneath. Besides that, I have no idea. Any clues, guys?
SOLVED: The Defiance #1205
1932-1953
Length 14”
Cutter width 2″
EDIT: Thank you for the info guys. The Defiance has red totes and knobs, and I found the same color when I took them off. So I'm sure it's a Defiance #1245 No. 5 now. It's nothing special, but it was $7. It's complete and not damaged. I don't have anything from the 1940s, so I'm going to fix it up this weekend and see how she goes.
Edit Edit: Interesting side note: I'm in Vancouver, BC, and I found this in a junk shop. The Sharpie writing on the iron says ‘UBC’, which is our college here. I don't know if it belonged to a staff member, was used for teaching, or belonged to a student. The university was founded in 1908, so with the plane being from the 1940s, it has a grain of local history. I think she's worth spending a few hours on.
This went a lot more smoothly than the first time . This time I deburred everything before putting into kiln and was not stingy this time with the heat treat foil. I also used acetone for dry ice bath instead of alcohol this time . The alcohol I used last time was only 70% so had a lot of ice form the acetone all stayed liquid which was nice . 61-63 hrc . O also I made a program on my kiln for tempering A-2 on my kiln so now which was a nice quality of life improvement vs using a toaster oven last time to temper.
Near term goals are to get set up to use liquid nitrogen instead of dry ice. Make a batch of 6 more marking knives and to make a plane Iron out of A-2.
I have an older blue Ryobi handy trim router model TR-3OU and I am looking for a replacement 1/4” collet. I have been searching Amazon, and other online locations.
The reason I am looking is because I recently had a bit start slipping out of the collet during the process of making a pass causing a deeper cut. I was able to correct the situation but extremely frustrating. I presume the collet was bad. Cleaned everything out but it performed in the same manner.
