This is for a Mamiya 645AF, shooting primarily landscape stuff on Ektar. For people I have the 80/2.8 and 150/3.5 already, been looking for a 55mm, maaaybe a 45mm, but they’re all in pretty lousy condition or not compatible with the older body. Thinking for life at f8-f16, the zoom might be just fine?

NLP had trouble with the conversions, but eventually figured it out, surprised how well the 80-400 did, despite how dismal that lens can be above 300mm. All of these were shot at f/5.6

I'm putting together a 645AF kit, and I bought a Leaf Shutter 80mm 2.8. It hasn't arrived yet, but supposedly that LS lens will mount, but won't function at all on the 645AF.

What about the f/2.8D version of the 80mm? Would that work on the olde 645AF?

I've had the old AF version of this lens before, and I just remember it was always sticky and gummy.

Hopefully Reddit uploads this at full res. I figured some people here might be curious to see just how much detail you can actually get out of 35mm, and I think this might be about it.

I shot this on the N2020 at either f/8 or f/11. For the scan, I used a Z8 with the 50MC, put it in DX mode, and did a 32-pass pixel shift just to see how far I could push the negative. The resulting image is about 77MP.

I also tried the 200MP full-frame 32-pass mode, and as far as I could tell it didn’t resolve any more actual detail than this. I did sharpen the image, but beyond this point I’d be pretty skeptical that you’re extracting more image detail rather than just getting a higher-resolution look at the grain.

Next time I take the 4x5 out, I want to shoot the same shot side by side on 35mm at optimal apertures, purely for comparison.

An ultra fine grained color film like Ektar 100 or Ektacolor 160 can clearly hold a ton of detail at apertures that are hand holdable. With 4x5 though, getting reasonable depth of field often means shooting around f/22–f/45. And at the kind of DPI involved here, you’re not resolving more film detail so much as magnifying the effects of diffraction.

Anyway: cat, film, excessive scanning resolution. For science.

Could have composed this better, lots of cloning of scratches, but pretty happy with this. Second time out on the intrepid.

Walked into the repair shop to buy some film for a job next week, saw this on the shelf while ringing me up and said "oh that's fun"... They said "Yeah it's got a broken hood, but otherwise we CLA'd it and it works perfect. Ran a few rolls through it, it's a huge negative"

I'm not really into rangefinders (I find them infuriating to focus), but at $775 and a fresh CLA.. Yeah I'll give 6x9 a shot! Great timing as I just got my 4x5 field kit put together....

Figure if it doesn’t speak to me, I can rehomenit fir what i paid for it

Got a decent 100MP scan out of Tri-X 320 stitching a pano.

Big thing was making sure my old lenses worked. This was with a Nikkor 210 5.6, did some others with a 135mm 5.6 from the same spot, have a 300/5.6 I still need to test. I figured the St Johns Bridge would be a good test to make sure everything is copasetic. I’m not big into B&W, but pretty happy with how this turned out despite the clouds.

I shot this at f/22, and you can definitely see diffraction on the negative. I think I expected to pull more detail out of it.

Next time I go out, I’m going to shoot the same composition on some 35mm to compare.

Either way, it’s a fun process and I really enjoyed using the camera.

I’ve got a couple well used lenses that have a bunch of gunk in the letters and controls, I used a toothbrush and some isopropyl and made some decent progress, tried a toothpick to get into the numbers, but it wasn’t fine enough.

Any suggestions?
