Record player suggestions!

Hey! Ive been looking around on other posts but figured why not just add one myself… Im looking for am affordable turntable setup just for fun. I’m pretty broke, 16 and dont have a real job, but I get 60 bucks a week babysitting so thats something for sure. I only just started though, and would like to put a lot of that money towards college. Basically, I want something relatively cheap (bc records themselves are also so pricey omg) that still sounds alright and will last me at least a couple years. Im alright with having to save up for a little bit, but I dont want to spend all my money on this. Maybe max $350 for both speakers and the player itself?

Umm, what else. I am located in the USA (eugh) and id love if i could order it online. Theres like, one music store near me and its absolutely miniscule.

Ya. Thanks for the help…

Cheers!

help guess the musical!!

All the stuff we know:

This show has an extremely large cast. It needs to have a high soprano lead, and preferably doesnt rely on needing a guy to play the male roles. (so, tenors or easily transposable/non gender reliant roles. we gender bend a lot of things— for example, we have female princes for into the woods, along with a female jack). Our director tends to do more fantastical shows— in the recent past we have done the wizard of oz, into the woods, the little mermaid…

it has to be family friendly- we had difficulty doing into the woods because our hesd of school found it too innapropriate. we now err on the side of caution.

we excell at comedy— in the past, our fall plays that have been comedic have been smashing hits, and we didnt have enough seats for our most recent one.

we also know our director picks it for her older cast members and our strengths. we are comedic, character driven people. vocally theres a lot of variation, but she will likely want a show with at least a side character who is an alto/mezzo belter, and an emotional mezzo. BIG characters— we have found we are especially campy, and she loves to lean into that.

Our current biggest guess is Mary Poppins— but we dont have many strong dancers, so it might be a kind of sad production.

Our director loves to cast like 30+ people, but we have a tiny stage. A show that will work around this would be preferable. (even though we definitely di better with small casts…)

its not a lot to go off of… but…

OH also— the show has to be off of THIS list… we compete in our local wualifying competition for theJimmy awards each year.https://www.jimmyawards.com/assets/qualifying-shows_2026-04-22.pdf

Belting on long e and i?

Hi! I’m a lower mezzo-soprano (f16) and for my audition for Six: Teen Audition, I’m singing a cut from No Way. Both my lower and higher belt feel supported in the song, or at the very least much more comfortable than whenever I sing the b4 in my chest voice. It feels like Im straining against it and sounds forced. I have noticed that it consistently falls on a long e or i vowel, and wondered if any of you have tips for singing in a chest belt on that vowel. Or maybe it’s because that is where my… vocal break is? Is that what you call it? Or is it my placement, going straight from my lower, more chesty range into my middle range? Or a combination…? Thank you!

Tips for chest voice on vocal break?

Hi! I’m a lower mezzo soprano (f16) and I’m auditioning for Six: Teen Edition, they’re having us sing a song from the show so I’m going to be singing a cut from No Way and want some tips for belting through my vocal break. (I’d like to be clear here on that I’m not educated in the terminology here so if I say something wrong please correct me!) I find mine sits around b4 and consistently in the song when I go to belt that note, it feels uncomfortable and forced. I can bring my chest voice above and below it and it feels much more natural and relaxed of a note. I’m wondering if maybe it’s not actually because of where my voice is breaking but the vowel im singing on? It seems to be a long i or e sound most of the time. I’ll add a screenshot of some of the lines in question. Thank you guys so much!

Am I too much or do they just not show love in the same way I do?

I am an extremely excitable person. like probably most of us on here, I’m always prepared to go out and just do things. I love being with the people I love and I want to spend as much time with them as possible. I don’t mind not having a plan— I just want to be with them, no matter what we’re doing. Sometimes I feel excessively clingy, though, and have the impression I’m kind of exhausting. Toning myself down around my friends is something I’ve been working on, but also something that causes me a lot of distress. I’m afraid that if I don’t put in so much work into the relationship that it will fall apart, and I know that’s not true but it’s so hard to convince myself otherwise. When I am too lonely I get depressed and overthink everything. My three closest friends are all introverted (infps and infjs, I think) and I know that they don’t feel loved and supported the same way I do and that they need space and don’t appreciate my constant spontaneity and energy, but how do i know when I am genuinely being too much and when im just around the wrong type of people? I love my friends a lot and try to compromise as much as possible, but sometimes I think I need something more. Is that too much to ask? Or is it something I actually need as a person?

What colors will show best on my hair?

my school doesn’t allow hair to be dyed during school days, so this summer, I’d like to use a semi permanent dye on my hair. i dont want to have to bleach my hair. does anyone have any recommendations? I’m not looking for a specific color, just something that will work, be at least semi-vibrant, and give me a bit of change before school starts again

Would these be two different voice types? Or is it simply training/how/what they practice?

person 2-

also a bright sound but darker on the low notes. heavy voice reliant on belting, can belt high but struggles with mixing. range: c3-b6

Transitioning between musical theater and classical music

Hi! I have been doing all of my ‘training‘ specifically for musical theater. (I am a highschool student, so I don’t have a highly extensive theater career at the moment.) I’ve strengthened my belt and chest voice, auditioned for countless shows, and have recently finally started to work with a voice coach, who also specializes in musical theater. Basically, it’s the only thing I know at this point. I am in a small choir, as an Alto 2 (though I think I am more of a mezzo-soprano with an extended lower range, I don’t have the dark tone of a true alto) and sometimes find that I feel so much weaker in choir than I do singing in musicals, even in ensemble numbers. I know part of it is my need to strengthen my mix/ head voice, but would it be worthwhile to do classical training instead of training for musical theater? Would it be more beneficial to me to strengthen my voice in that area than to continue working on just musical theater? Or in the end, does it not matter?
