I’m hearing that these 240 saloon tail light connectors are like gold dust, does anyone know where to source please?

Getting road trip ready

I bought my first 240 last weekend after getting advice from you guys, thank you! Besides some minor oil leaks and inner tie rod play, my mechanic gave her a clean bill of health.

I’m planning a 2500km coastal road trip for mid September, and will give her a service and change all fluids beforehand.

I’ve got a comprehensive breakdown policy that covers a tow for up to 300km in case of the worst, but expecting a rural mechanic to keep 1989 Volvo spares is a pipe dream.

If you were planning this trip, what would your must have spare parts be to keep onboard? Any other prep tips would be appreciated. Cheers!

Tracklib - False economy?

Sample based production seems to be what I'm enjoying most. I'm rarely inspired by splice loops, but I do enjoy the creative process of being able to use splice bridge in ableton and their built in "stack" to get the creative juices flowing.

Tracklib has a similar feature where you can chop and stack loops, and also an in house stem splitter which works far better than UVR which I currently use.

The only downside is a catalog of 100,000 records doesn't seem much when you think there'll be tens of thousands of subscribers. They also seem to be pretty quiet in telling you that any track you commercially release with their "royalty free" records, must have a revenue split agreed with the original sample rights holder.

Anyone still using Tracklib? How'd you find it?

Product recommendations for plastic restoration

I’d like to restore the plastic trims on my new 240. Anyone have a product they’d recommend?

I know there’s a tonne out there, but I’d like to do the door strips too which are almost a bit rubbery/porous as opposed to hard ABS - so Volvo specific recs would be cool.

What would’ve sat here & why would someone remove it?

Dashboard on my new 240 has seen better days. Anyone know what was once here?

Potential 240 purchase tomorrow - thoughts/guidance

Afternoon,

I've been looking for a classic car to use as a semi-daily (I have a motorbike too) for a while now, and have my heart set on a Volvo 240 or a W123 Merc. I've viewed and walked away from a couple, and was hoping for thoughts on the below.

I viewed a 1989 Volvo 240GL Auto Saloon this morning, did some preliminary checks and a test drive and agreed to meet the seller again tomorrow, as I always miss things first time round and we were a bit pressed on time. The seller is asking 5,500 AUD (3,800 USD).

Any thoughts, comments or additional checks you recommend would be appreciated!

Summary

  • 240,000km/150,000miles. Previous invoices recording mileage seem to verify - but I know this isn't 100% reliable.
  • Minimial to no rust in problematic areas: chasiss rails, engine firewall/bulkhead, door bottoms, trunk, spare wheel (drainage plug missing), windshield, floor pans beneath carpet.
  • Paint looks good for a car of this age, a bit tired as expected but not terrible.
  • Window seals are cracked, brittle and had come away in places. That being said, there was no damp carpets/moisture inside.
  • Gear selector had a crack, and the dashboard had some cracks too. This is common as a result of Australian sun.
  • All lights worked as they should, so did the wipers. Manual windows, no issues.
  • Started up well, no blue smoke I could see, idled well. No noticeable oil leaks. Engine oil looked good.
  • Gearbox was smooth (see below service history). Transmission fluid was red and looked fresh. No noticeble clunks, slipping, reverse engaged well.
  • Brakes felt great for a 37 year old car (see below service history).

Service History:
Only has service history going back to 2019, which isn't great. I've excluded general servicing and just included major items below.

2019:

  • Dayco belts supply and fit. 2x 11A0926, 1 x 11A0850, 1 x 13A0975LA. I think this is alternator/water pump, AC & power steering belts.

2022:

  • Both front inner tie rods replaced
  • Wheel alignment
  • Brake master cylinder replacement
  • Remove extension housing
  • Replace support bearing and seal
  • Clean transmission governor
  • Door card re-fit/window adjustment
  • Supply and fit reconditioned secondhand gearbox, rear main seal.

2025:

  • Fuel filter
  • Brake rotors and pads
  • Seller

Concerns:

  • The seller was transparent and said yesterday the car cut out on a small hill and wouldn't restart for a while. He said he then put a spare battery he had in and filled the fuel which was low, and it was alright.
  • I highly doubt this is the issue. Just this morning someone posted a similar issue, apparently this could be the fuel injection relay. Are there any other common issues I should look into which could be causing this?
  • A/C - not currently working, apparently just needs re-gassing. I need to check this out tomorrow, as it's regularly 100 degrees farenheit in Aus in the summer.
  • Dashboard and the gear selector plastic housing have cracks. This is common as a result of Aussie sun.
  • Strip of black paint applied beneath side windows along the length of the body - not sure what this could be?
  • The seller is the second owner since October 2024 and has only had it around a year.
  • I forgot to check coolant and power steering fluid. Will do this tomorrow.

Has anyone tried both Nucala and Dupixent?

I’ve struggled for over a decade now, tried all the steroid drops and sprays and had multiple surgeries. Nucala/Dupixent/Xolair are almost impossible to get for polyps in the UK.

I relocated to Australia recently and I got a prescription/took my first Nucala shot about 3 weeks ago. No improvements so far, they’re just as bad as ever. I’d put a huge amount of faith in Biologics being the answer for me, and I’m pretty disheartened.

My consultant said Nucala can take months to work, but most of the anecdotal evidence on here regarding Dupixent shows that symptoms got better almost immediately. Has anyone tried both, and had success with one but not the other?

Ableton/Splice Sample Organisation

Could anyone provide some tips on their workflow for sample management/organisation, please - especially from Splice.

I know that Splice syncs all downloaded samples into it's own folder locally on your PC, but it organises it by packs.

If I search "chord stabs" and download 50 from the search results, I want to take these from Splice and put them into my own local folder structure. Splice doesn't let you drag and drop from the desktop app into local folders and doesn't let you copy and paste more than one sample at a time.

Surely there has to be an easier way than digging through all of the sample packs folders that splice creates and pulling out one sample at a time to move to my local folders?

Anyone 6ft + ride a Bonneville Bobber?

Hey, first post here. I’m pretty set on a triumph as my next bike, and I love the look of the Bonneville Bobbers.

Not many come up for sale used where I am, and I’m wondering if it’s even worth exploring if they’re not great for taller riders. I’m 6ft3 (190cm) and from some of the videos I see, some taller riders make them look tiny.

Is anyone here at a similar height riding one? Any photos would be great, cheers.

Upgrading from Intro to Standard

After around 14 months of Ableton Intro, too many youtube tutorials to count and endless scrolling of reddit, I feel like I'm at the point where I've learnt enough to warrant upgrading.

Hopefully this doesn't constitute begging & breaking the rules, but if anyone had a discount code available it'd be a big help.

K1 Kickboxing Gym Perth

I made a post here a while back looking for a K1 gym in Perth (not Muay Thai).

Someone recommended an MMA gym that has K1 sessions a couple nights a week, but I deleted the post and can’t remember the gym for the life of me. Does anyone know of a place? Cheers.

How much of this is “you’re buying a 40 year old car” and how much is, “walk away”

Paid for a specialist to carry out a pre purchase inspection on a W123 I’m interested in, and received this report. I know these cars are renown for being bomb proof and a lot of these items are standard perishable items which wear with age.

What I don’t know is if the amount of repairs/replacements is enough to walk away, even if I could negotiate on price.

Cause for concern?

Hey guys, I viewed a 230e last week and wanted to ask if these rust spots are cause for concern. Besides this, there was no rust in all the problem areas, which is very rare for my location on the coast.

1984 230e
2 owners from new
Manganese brown metallic in great condition
No sunroof
No A/C from factory
Original Becker Mexico radio
167,000 miles

1984 230e engine bay oil

I viewed a W123 230e today, does anyone have an idea of the most likely causes of this oil in the engine bay?

From reading, it looks like most likely a faulty filler cap seal or valve cover gasket, but any input would be great.

Good morning! Does anyone know if there are shops which sell nicotine pouches (Snus) in Bishkek? Brands like Zyn, Velo, Nordic Spirit etc.

I found them in Tashkent but haven’t come across them here yet. Thanks!
