Fender Motion 16: a little warning.

bought one today as I was mostly interested in an updated SP integration and the feel and sentitivity of the pads.

in a nutshell:

I've used it for 10 mins and I've already encountered a reproducible bug in the chords feature where a given chord would get stuck (both with Mai Tai and Super 8 from NI)

the only way to stop it was to disable monitoring (but it would get stuck again)

also chords are stuck in a given octave (or at least the Octave buttons didn't work in this case) and they're all pretty low which makes them unusable (I wonder who thought that octave was a good sounding default)

As a former drummer I'd say pad sensitivity is sub par because of one reproducible issue:

I've used the same drum library (NI 60's Drummer) which imo has them best deep sampled cymbals.

my test is usually the same: grab a snare and play each division live.

Motion 16 pads are nicely sensitive with single strokes but fail to recognize fast triplets and faster subdivisions like 16th notes when playing a single pad, resulting in a single longer midi input (the MIDI meter in the track detects all of them but the Motion doesn't)

Tried the same test with Maschine Mk3 and gets them all.
Btw, in case someone is interested in having the absolute best pads in the market, Maschine MK3 still is in a league of its own.

All in all, even if it's just 10 mins, was enough for me to return the unit.

it's just not there yet and I was using the newest SP 8.1.2 (Win11 Pro) and latest Motion firmware (1.6) which had a nice bunch of adds and fixes for the Motion units.

Just in case someone is about to pull the trigger.

EDIT: (I added a response down here but I'm copying it here cos I think it's fair towards the unit)

Pads wise I'm happy is working for you because I must say that, being a former drummer, my hands are obvs much more sensitive and anytime I hear "pads are very sensitive" when watching a review I usually skip that info and wait to try myself lol

Maschine as said rules undisputed followed by the MPC One+ I have - where pads are more stiff, less pleasant to play and smaller, but equally sensitive.

Said so, Motion pads are technically solid and good and promising (you can test how sensitive they are easily by engaging Repeat and recording all velocities. they're pretty responsive for me. they just currently fail when performed on a single pad, which is something I do a lot)

I also enjoyed the overall build quality which is on par with Maschine MK3.

I deffo see myself getting the Motion again when it gets more stable.

I currently have an Atom SQ which, might not look good, feels plastic-y, but operation wise is just spot on. it just works. (besides that Shift button placement which isn't ideal)

Suzuki Van Van 200: mind giving me a lil help with this?

Hey all!

Super rookie when it comes to electric system but I want to tackle it myself.

Bike is a Suzuki Van Van 200, super simple engine, 1 single fuse.

A few weeks ago a slightly loose pin in the ignition relay caused an arc that blew two fuses in a row and left me stranded twice in a day. I fixed the loose pin and the bike now runs fine.

However I'm still trying to solve:

Rear turn signals: dead (both sides)

Works: high beam (same switch block)

Tested:

  • New indicators, no change
  • New relay, no change (relay also controls kickstand and it works)
  • Cleaned left switch block, no change
  • 12V test light on under seat connector, zero voltage both pins

------------------------------

Rear position light: dead. Brake light on same housing works fine.

Works: brake light, ground

Tested:

  • Brake pin lights up test light when lever pulled
  • Position pin, ignition ON, zero voltage
  • Ground pin tested separately, confirmed good, 12.7V
  • Traced wire into main harness near battery
  • Found connector near clutch lever per wiring diagram, not yet tested there

Wiring diagram: 3 pin connector, BR ground, B/W and W/B for brake and position.

Wiring diagram attached. Anyone seen either of these on a Van Van?

or any hint?

much thanks in advance !

Redo in song mode??

hey all

while trying stuff out, I accidentally pressed Undo in song mode and deleted the entire pattern.

I then realized it destroyed the entire pattern but couldn't believe it lol

I tried a bunch more undo's just to confirm this behavior and more patterns got nuked for good

a solid hour worth of work gone.

I've found a feature request back from 2023 asking for a redo button in song mode but it seems it's never been implemented?

so not only there's no redo but worst of all the undo is fully destructive?

or am I missing anything??

Tracker learning curve

hey all,

I recently grabbed a Tracker+ as I was looking for a groovebox capable to make albums in it and I gave it a spin.

I've used milky tracker back in 2013 for a game OST and all I can remember was exadecimal swearing in ancient Bulgarian.

When I got the T+ I was curious to see how Polyend streamlined the process in 2026

After 2 weeks of daily practice I'm now pretty familiar with the basics and can do "stuff" :)

In some ways I really like the idea to have full control of each and every step and willing to dig deeper and see how much you can realistically "glide" thru the composing process so that it becomes fun (now it isn't currently for obvious noobie reasons and also because my workflow is literally the opposite of play/stop/edit/play/stop/edit/play/stop/edit etc...)

for all you tracker experts. realistically

- does it all get smooth and flow-y after the initial curve? (the best I've tried so far are the KOII and the Polyend Play)

- how long you reckon it might take to get there?

- OR even if you're an expert there still are a LOT of stop&gos and that will remain a fact with the tracker workflow?

Play OG: consistent clicks when randomizing samples (Performance Mode)

Ever happened to you?

I've found some infos about random clicks on the Play but they were 4 years old and in this case they're "in time" and consistent.

wonder if there's a fix? or should be reported as a bug?

also tried by adding a fade to every sample but those clicks kept going

pretty noob about all things Polyend so any hint is supa appreciated

thanks!!

Play OG: knobs behaving inconsintently

hey all

just bought an OG Play and after 5 days of use I can say that knobs sometimes switch to other parameters on their own. It's not frequent but it's not rare either.

Is this known? I'm currently on firmware 1.6

not sure if there's something wrong with the unit cos I can return it.

Thanks!!

Retaining onwership rights of the OST

hey all,

doing a bit of a research:

how many of you retained them and how many of you trasferred them to the studio/publisher via a buyout option?

S Rank A New America

just wanted to share this ultra dumb moment

almost done with S Rank all missions and it was time for a New America again - which took me 5 days to complete in my previous lethal run.

I S ranked the previous ones back to back yesterday night and was getting late but was curious to give it one single shot with my standard S Rank loadout: all of us with Flash launchers - 2 Intimidators, 2 Pacifiers

I unexpectedly reached the top and disarmed the bomb first try XD

but Bring order to Chaos was still not complete.

We get out of the room and got shot by the last mf that changed position as was waiting just outside, I manage to flash him up and surrender but my healthbar must have been close to zero and died right after he surrendered

eventually I found out he was the last suspect remaining

A New America S Ranked almost completed at first try but mission failed lol

Also I found out that - this was after S ranking Elephant and Relapse where I had to stop using VPL or bean shotguns which I previously used - with those traits, a fast and aggressive entry in rooms with flash launchers makes S ranking (I'm still in standard) almost trivial

Provided I move methodically and slow anywhere else, entering rooms and decently spaced areas faster and harder made this S Ranking almost easy.

Dunno if you have the same feeling. Seems like flash launchers are almost OP.

USB devices powered but not detected at startup

hey all

I've been trying to figure this out for a couple of weeks

I have multiple USB MIDI controllers that are bus powered but - only after startup - in order to be detected by my DAW (music software) I always need to unplug them and plug them in again.

If I shout the PC off I have to redo this again.

- all "energy saving" boxes are unticked in the device manager for all USB devices

- start up button doesn't start the PC in "energy saving" mode

any idea how to solve this? any hint is super appreciated. Thanks!

Studio Pro 8: is there a quick way to unpack takes to individual tracks?

I've found layers but it seems an extra step to turn takes into layers.

or

if layers are necessary: how do I turn layers into individual tracks?

Thanks for any insight!

Portable creative sampler suggestions?

hey all,

I've had so much fun with the KOII but ended up selling it since the 128MB storage is a no go.

But this experience shed a light on what I'm looking for: a portable creative sampler with these go to feats:

- portable (must)

- has a sequencer & tracks (nice to have)

- effects can be performed live (ideally only sends in order to retain eventual tails when disegnaged) (must)

- has great sounding effects (must)

- ideally has a song mode too (nice to have)

- I can resample what I'm doing at any time (even if I leave the resampler page - my biggest limitation with my AKAI Mpc One + ) (must)

- has SD card for storage (must)

- has a great sounding warping-pitching algorithm (must)

- battery powered (super nice to have)

_________________________________________

I already know the OP1 Field would tick all of these and more but I just can't justify the price - even second hand. Awesome little machine but no.

Also I've bought the MPC Sample but returned it after a 3 weeks deep dive since to my ears it doesn't sound good due to its subpar warping-pitching algorithm and most of all the bad sounding FXs. (reverb is almost obscene lol)

__________________________________________

Torso S4 is the only I've found so far.

anything else comes to your mind?

btw I don't do vinyl sampling or such. I do game audio and do all sorts of experimental stuff with samples

Thanks!!

MPC Sample sound quality

Coming from the KOII I'm enjoying all the benefits of the Sample but overall to my ears the KOII sounded just better overall

especially when it comes to inbuilt FXs - which contributes a lot for the overall sound of the device obvs (not to mention an issue with the compressor that clicks super easy with low end transients, and I know the AKAI team is aware of that and they suggested to make a template project with the compressor bypassed for now)

I find the Sample reverbs to sound pretty bad - especially the pad fx default state which sounds quite awful to my ears and being just a bad sounding reverb all together.

There's this general tendency to create clicks and pops and the overall sound to be too dusty all the time and I'm guessing is coming from a not yet optimized sound engine rather than a wanted character.

And it's not about the samples since yesterday I was using some samples (I used Jura) I used on the One + and they sounded much better and more pristine, saved them as a drum program for the MPC Sample, made something there and they sounded more dusty, crackly and overall more out of focus. And I'm guessing is a combination of the pitch algorithm + FXs.

Was wondering if you had a similar feeling.

One + Sampler: applying a short fade-in-out to all samples

hey all

is there a quick way to do this?

I often record 2-3 mins performances that I chop into smaller regions (30-50+)

is there away to add a fade in/out processing to all regions in one go?

I'm currently enjoying the "base" MPC workflow on the One+ but was wondering if, in your experience, the clips clearly stepped it all up when it comes to rocrding and most of all arranging full tracks

Would you say it was generally worth the upgrade for you?

hey

I'm currently working on a game theme on the One+ and I've saved the project while it was on playback

I've noticed that the drum programs lost all the allocated samples but they still play the sounds (events are in the arrangement)

question is: is it generally safe to save during playback? ever happened to any of you before?

not sure if it's a bug I should report to the team (currently I'm on 3.8)

hey all,

I'm exploring the autosampling feature and I just recorded the NI Ebony Kit with 3 velocity layers

seems everything has been sampled correctly but whenever I play the pads, sounds are played inconsistently

any idea why?

PS: solved the clipping. Input was too hot

UPDATE: I also tried with a single velocity layer but I still get the same inconsistency

sometimes it just doesn't play any sound for like 5-6 seconds then it starts again

I so often spend time fiddling with a sound (whether is a sample or a synth) in real time and would love to record these moments, edit them, chop them and build my sound library within the One+.

I obvs tried using the inbuilt sampler and resample but as soon as I change page and go back to the synth page and start fiddling with knobs, it stops recording.

is there a way to achieve so?

I was thinking about retrospective recording but I haven't found a way to route the plugin MIDI track to an audio track.

What I need to is to be able to record not just the static sound but the sound plus all those manipulations
