Puppet Master Discord: https://discord.gg/2XFFyzjGsg
I am not really a Discord person, but there isn't really any chat places for fans, other than Facebook, which a lot of people don't like as it's too personal. And Reddit is less for instant chat and more like a forum. So if you'd like to join there's one here! https://discord.gg/2XFFyzjGsg

Myrtle Beach Tunneler - Tunneler prop indirectly connected to a real life murder - Vehicros archive
Archiving this as it sheds light on the Tunneler prop that used to be at a Planet Hollywood cafe, that isn't anymore. Vehicros wrote this and his site is gone now. I think it's too interesting to be lost to time. So I archived his blog. Credit to photos: DiscoPinhead. Credit to blog: Vehicros.
Short version: Dave Allen, one of the leading creators of the Puppet Master puppets and their movements in the first five movies, had an affair with another person. He gave a Tunneler screen-used prop to that person as a gift. That person got arrested for murder. All of that person's belongings became owned by the State after the arrest and auctioned off. Including the Tunneler, that ended up in a local Cafe/Museum. A whole book was written by Dave's ex-wife about the whole story about Dave's other ex that was arrested for murder.
The Tunneler prop was on display because of a murder arrest of someone who owned it and it being auctioned off while they were in jail.

Now, part of the purpose of my blog and my research is to collect as much information about the actual screen used props, as well as any information leading to the current whereabouts of each of them.
I recently discovered a post on the yuku forum about the Tunneler Prop on display at Planet Hollywood in Myrtle Beach, SC.
Yesterday I called and spoke with the curator who purchased the Tunneler prop and the only details he remembered was it was purchased in 1996, the same year David Allen’s ex-girlfriend was arrested.
Now it stands to reason that David Allen could have given “her” a Tunneler prop, Right? And even more so that if his ex GF was arrested, anything in her possession at the time could have become taken by the state of South Carolina, Correct?
Well, its not too hard to follow along with where all this is going. But as I was doing my research I discovered something totally unexpected. -
Valerie Nicole Taylor (1956 – ) model.
Freddie Lee Turner was raised in Greenville, South Carolina with five brothers and a sister. He helped out as a surrogate mother to his siblings after their mother left. He got good grades at school, but dropped out during senior year. He was arrested, once in Atlanta, and several times locally, on misdemeanor charges.
By 1979, going by the name Freda, she was known as a trans woman, and was seen leaving a bar in nearby Gaffney with Billy Posey who was found shot dead the next morning in a motel room. A taxi-driver told police that he had taken Turner to Spartanburg, and that Turner had flashed a gun and confessed the killing. It took a few days to sign an arrest warrant, by which time Turner had disappeared.
Turner moved to Atlanta, then, Florida, then in 1985, as Valerie Taylor to Glendale, Los Angeles. She sometimes worked as a photographer’s model. Valerie advertised in a personals ad, and met Dave Allen (1944 – 1999) who did visual effects and directed movies. She was his date to the Oscars in 1986 when he was nominated for Best Special Effects in Young Sherlock Holmes, 1985. They lived together for some years.
In 1990 Dave Allen also started dating a divorced mother of two, Donita Woodruff.
Dave Allen Puppet Master effects guy who helped create the puppets with Donita.
In 1991 Dave paid for Valerie’s legal name change and surgery with Dr Biber. Also in 1991 Valerie had an accident while learning to drive, hit 5 parked cars, and left the scene of the accident. She was sentenced to three years probation and community service, yet the police did not suspect Valerie to be the suspect of the 1979 murder in South Caroline. But instead assumed she had become mentally disturbed as a result of the sex change.
Dave moved in with Donita and finally married her in 1995. Valerie and Donita took a strong dislike to each other. Donita researched Valerie at the Burbank city hall and obtained a copy of Valerie’s name change.
She was shocked when she found out Dave had a relationship with a transsexual and went for an Aids test. Her psychiatrist suggested that she watch The Crying Game, 1992, and the scene where Dil shoots the IRA agent reminded her that Dave had once mentioned that he knew a person who killed someone. She became obsessed that Valerie must be a murderer, and collected evidence.
In 1996, Donita informed the Burbank police that Taylor was a fugitive. Taylor denied being Freddie Turner, but her fingerprints were the same as those taken from Freddie in Atlanta. She was extradited to South Carolina. In 1997, she pled self-defense and the evidence being mainly lost and witnesses having died since, she was sentenced to 15 years, suspended to three.
All this destroyed the marriage of Donita and Dave and their divorce was finalized in 1998.
Valerie served two years in prison at the Leath Correctional Institute for women, before returning to Los Angeles and to Dave.
David Allen died of cancer in 1999 and it is rumored that he left most of his money to Valerie. In 2002, Valerie was convicted of assault on a boyfriend, and put on probation.
Donita Woodruff published her account as a true crime book in 2005. -
People are People, and sometimes they surprise me, but only when they do something good, otherwise I cant say that I trust many people.
Reading this did not surprise me, but instead just leave more un answered questions for my raging curiosity.
I imagine this made headlines back around 1996. Some may still remember, and others forgot. Despite it all, Its a shame that David Allen passed away.
After the arrest. Their belongings were auctioned off. Including the Tunneler prop to a near by Cafe museum.

My note: A fan named Jo Stewart purchased the Mytyle Beach Tunneler and the Disney Land Florida Jester prop from their museums. They are no longer on display. They are in a private collection of a fan.

Tammy's Blade. Vehicros Archive
The year was 1992, when I rented Puppet Master; I fell in love with Blade and had to have him. My now ex husband calls Full Moon entertainment to see if we could obtain him.
We got a hold of Full Moon. I asked if I could buy him, at first they were not sure, and thought I wanted to duplicate him, at that time you couldn’t even buy a replica, like today. I begged and they said OK.
It was December 1992, I received him before Xmas, and they made him for me. Blade has a real knife and a real hook, unlike the ones in the movies. Well I had him sitting on the couch with me, as I was holding him and must have moved him the wrong way and his leg fell off, I was so upset I paid a lot for him.
I was being careful, it wasn’t like I was being rough with him, well I called and they told me to send him back to be repaired, then a few days later I got a call from asking Blade could be borrowed for Puppet Master 4. I was excited and said “Yes” and he was.
Blade was in used in at least 3 parts, one where Eric was throwing something, and when he leaves the room Blade turns his head to look at him, and the one scene where Lauren asked Eric where did she get that puppet from, she was holding him and laid him on the bed, he was also in the scene where he is sitting on a radiator.
Well, this is my story. PM 4 came out in 1993 I got blade at the end of 1992, I’m selling him due to financial changes, not because I’m tired of him.
I want someone to enjoy him like I did, 19 yrs ago, he looks like he did 19yrs ago, was in a display case away from the sun, his coat came that way there were not changes to him by me what so ever.
I hope you have enjoyed my story, I never told a soul, until now,
Sincerely,
- Tammy -
Tammy provided additional photos of her Blade Prop.
And so the never ending curiosity spread to this photo which, again is one of those things where you have to ask, is it real?
Maybe its not so much about wondering if its real, as it not being what we expected?
This photo is a close up of Blade’s shoes. Keep in mind this is Tammy’s prop, and the shoes used on this prop, may or may not be the same as the others.
Notice the small pearl buttons.
Next, look at this screen shot from The very first Puppet Master film. Notice the enlarged section, and the small white dot. This may very well be the same prop used in more than just films 4 and 5.
Now this prop existed before Puppet Master 4, which means it was most likely used in Puppet Master III, or II or even I.
Being honest, Tammy could verify it was used in Film 4, because she had been asked to loan it for film 4, but this does not necessarily mean this prop was not used in the previous films.
The evidence in the photo clearly reveals the shoes are probably the exact same shoes, and therefore maybe even the exact same prop.
According to Full Moon Features “Video Zone” the video documentary which featured behind the scenes and making of the Puppet Master Films; Three props were made for each character. A prop with an articulated jaw and eye spikes for close up shots. A so called “Stunt Puppet” which was used for the abusive scenes. And lastly, a fully articulated prop, which I believe this to be that prop.

Anyone might ask themselves, “Is it a real prop used in one or more Puppet Master films?”
I read all the posts, and realized it is human nature to question such items. Reading so many posts from unconvinced fans does not help.
I studied it very carefully, considered the possibilities, wondered why the head appears yellowed, and the coat faded. I contacted the seller, asking a few simple questions, and received answers.
Clockwork; The clockwork in his chest does not animate the puppet’s head or body in any way. It is simply a prop detail, in the event a scene called for Blade’s insides to be revealed just as Tunnelers were in Puppet Master 2. The props were actuated by strings, cables, and pneumatics, or other mechanical devices which were hidden from the viewers.
Gray coat; I views film 4, and at times the coat is obviously not as black as the hat, also once again type of fabric and lighting will affect appearance.
Yellowish head; In the films the head doesn’t always have a white tint, although lighting is everything. For example: in scenes from various films, the lips appear to be the same color as the rest of the head.
Eye spikes; Until now never really saw them up close, but would have to say they do match the ones used in film IV.
Weapons; Tammy did say she requested the prop be fitted with real metal weapons, rather than have the plastic ones used on the early props.
Body; No doubt in my mind that this body shares the exact same parts as the props used in Puppet Master II, specifically the scene where Tunneler is being examined.
Proportions; The reason so many “home made” replicas look wrong is because either the body, head, or clothes are not to scale. Not the case with this prop. The scale is correct with the early films.
Variances; I attribute things like color and tint to variables such as lighting and age. Not to mention several props were made. This is one of at least 3 of the Blade props that were used. No doubt each prop has minor differences depending on its requirements.
My reasoning; Being that I have a pretty good idea of all the work involved in building such a model, I have to say “I cannot think of anyone who would spend this much time and effort to painstakingly duplicate a Blade prop with such detail”.
Final verdict; Society teaches us to not believe everything we hear or see, especially when there is money involved. I see no reason not to believe this prop is legitimate and authentic.

Why is HMRC contacting me? Who are they, what do they want?
I've been struggling with depression for a long time, and during a particularly difficult period I spent £20,000 on a giant 9 foot wide Star Wars statue from Japan. I know it's a huge purchase, but unboxing it and finally having it has genuinely brought me some happiness. I'm proud of it, and it's been helping my mental health by giving me something positive to focus on.
The money I used came from my PIP payments, and now HMRC has contacted me about the purchase. They've sent me a large booklet to complete and are asking questions about whether I'm running a business. They've also said I may owe around £2,000, which has left me feeling frightened and overwhelmed.
I don't have any spare money left to pay this. After buying the statue, the remaining money I have is needed to cover my bills, food, and other essential living costs. I'm really worried about what will happen and don't know what to do.
