SJ (Statens Järnvägar - Swedish State Railways) Booking Tip

Figured I'd post here as I was looking to book train tickets from Stockholm to Copenhagen and by doing a few things early I saved a good amount for two on a first class Stockholm to Copenhagen SJ train ticket.

  1. You should sign up for a SJ Prio account (rewards program) - if you do not have a Swedish National ID, you should email their customer support to send you a link to bypass that requirement.

  2. Sign up for promotions/emails well before you're actually booking - from a few emails I've received booking discounts about a month out that have a short coupon validity window.

Here's a sample promotion email with the booking dates/rules (currently active for SJ):

R via 53rd St & 6th Ave (Broadway Weeknight Construction Routing)

On weeknights this week (Aug 3 - 6), the R train follows a wildly complex reroute from Queens Blvd via the F train then onto the D, followed by stopping at DeKalb early, and finally onto 4th Ave local lines.

You also could argue the true reroute in the evening is E (F is via 63rd St in evenings) to the F to the B (early dekalb stop) to the R.

The MTA intends to issue prorated refunds for May monthly holders for each suspended business day. Pending board approval — check mta.info for how to apply.

What's the dispute?

Five unions (~3,500 workers) struck over wages. Unions wanted a 9.5% retroactive raise plus 5% for 2026. The MTA offered 3–3.5% for 2026 plus a lump sum. No deal was reached.

Unions want the same 9.5% retroactive raise (covering the last 3 years) that other MTA unions recently received, plus an additional 5% raise for 2026.

The MTA is countering with 3–3.5% for 2026 plus a lump-sum cash payment. Unions are rejecting the lump sum - they want guaranteed long term wage growth to keep up with LI's cost of living. Workers haven't had raises since 2022.

The MTA warns meeting the full union ask would require an 8% fare hike, job cuts, or service reductions.

The last LIRR strike was 1994 and lasted two days.

N 5th Street looking East. The tank cars in the far background on the left are between Wythe and Berry. This later became Box Art if you're familiar.

Factories in Williamsburg and around Brooklyn would make goods, they would be put on railcars and then put onto a car float (barge). There was a terminal at the end of N 5th Street and more terminals up to N 10th.

From there, the rail cars would be barged over to NJ and connected with a train to go all over the country.

From April 24th, managed to find a laid up R211 signed as a D train on the 2nd Avenue F uptown platform (not in service track).
