Game theory question: after mutual silence, who is supposed to cooperate first?

I've been thinking about Tit-for-Tat and I feel like I'm missing something.

The basic rule is simple: start by cooperating, then copy whatever the other person did last.

But doesn't that assume there will always be another round?

Imagine this:

A does something unreasonable to B.

B confronts A.

A doesn't apologize or really respond.

So B stops talking to A.

Now they're both silent.

A's last meaningful move was arguably a defection. B already responded to that by defecting/withdrawing.

But now suppose weeks pass.

There isn't automatically another turn. Someone has to create the next interaction.

So what is B supposed to do under Tit-for-Tat?

If B contacts A, is B supposed to defect because A's previous move was defection?

Or does initiating contact itself count as cooperation?

Or should B simply wait indefinitely because technically it's A's turn to cooperate?

-----------------------------

That made me wonder whether the real-world game isn't just:

Cooperate / Defect

but actually:

Initiate / Don't Initiate → then Cooperate / Defect

I found some research on optional/repeated games where players can leave and later rejoin, so apparently this isn't completely unexplored.

But I'm curious how someone who actually understands game theory would model this.

Is there a standard solution to this, or does Tit-for-Tat genuinely become underspecified once the players control whether another round happens at all?

Is Your AI App Safe ? How do you make AI APP ready for vendor onboarding.

Before onboarding an AI application, most companies evaluates the risk

We built a free HAIEC tool that lets you enter an AI application’s website and review its publicly available disclosures in one place. For code level scanning get the Haiec Github App

For AI founders and product teams, this is also a useful outside-in test:

Does your website clearly explain how your AI system handles customer data?

Try your own application or an AI tool your company is considering:

https://www.haiec.com/check-ai-apps

No signup required.

What it scans.

• How user data may be used
• Whether data can be used for model training
• Available opt-out and deletion controls
• Third-party services and sub processors
• Privacy and safety commitments

I launched my AI architecture advisory on Product Hunt, is the positioning too broad?

I recently launched my AI architecture and governance advisory on Product Hunt.

I help businesses move AI from experimentation into controlled production, including:

  • AI agents and workflow automation
  • RAG and internal knowledge systems
  • Voice AI through Kestrel Voice
  • AI security, governance and compliance through HAIEC
  • Custom integrations, APIs and MCP systems

I also have free HAIEC assessment tools that help businesses identify their AI readiness, exposure and applicable regulations.

My concern is that the Product Hunt listing may still look too broad. Someone suggested adding a short assessment to help visitors identify where they should start. The tools already exist, but I may not be presenting the path clearly enough.

I would appreciate direct feedback:

  1. Is it clear what I actually deliver?
  2. Would you lead with the advisory, the assessment tools or one flagship product?
  3. What would make you take the next step?

Product Hunt:

I am looking for honest positioning feedback, not automatic upvotes.

I got tired of manually tracking AI news, so I built a free AI intelligence feed and API

AI Intelligence Brief Real-time intelligence from 45+ authoritative sources.

Keeping up with AI meant jumping between research labs, security publications, GitHub, cloud-provider blogs, policy updates and tech news every day.

>

It collects updates from 45+ trusted sources, removes duplicate and promotional noise, summarizes the important stories, and scores each one from 1–10 based on potential impact.

I originally built it for myself, but I’ve opened it up for anyone to use for free.

You can browse the intelligence brief or use the free API to:

  • Send high-impact AI alerts to Slack
  • Build a weekly team digest
  • Add AI intelligence to an internal dashboard
  • Monitor security, governance and regulatory developments

We aggregate news from trusted sources across the AI ecosystem:

  • Tech Publications: TechCrunch, The Verge, Ars Technica, Wired, MIT Technology Review
  • AI Research: OpenAI Blog, Google AI Blog, DeepMind, Anthropic
  • Developer Sources: GitHub Trending, Hacker News, Dev.to
  • Enterprise & Cloud: AWS Blog, Google Cloud Blog, Azure Blog
  • Security: The Hacker News, Krebs on Security, NIST, Haiec
  • Policy & Governance: White House AI, EU AI Act updates, IEEE

Architecture Decision Master Sheet . Is this helpful ?

The Architecture Decision Master Sheet is an interactive reference covering 25 architecture layers that every software development project must consider from product scope to governance. It is designed for PMs, architects, and tech leads who need a structured way to track decisions, risks, and deliverables across the full lifecycle of a software project, whether or not AI is part of the product.
Please review it and help enhance it.

I will give credit

How does the Upvote work? Does my upvote count for that specific comment, or the whole comment chain?"

While upvoting, I realized I had a question about how it works. I mean, can I just upvote all the posts I like? Also, how do top comments get chosen? Does my upvote count for that specific comment, or the whole comment chain?"
