Futzing around with some alternate faction rules

Futzing around with some alternate faction rules

The idea is to portray the Ironjawz as hard and regimented, but inflexible. I also want to bring back the spirit of Smashin' and Bashin', and implement a nod to the Ironjawz' infamous "bigger is better" hierarchy. Ironjawz WAAAGH! has been changed to Once Per Battle across the whole army, and allows the Ironjawz numerous "unmodified charge roll" abilities to rely less on Kragnos to get them working.

Thoughts? Prayers? Criticisms? HMU!

Alternating Activations for unit groups?

Hey, folks, I was watching a vid from Sam Pearson's Game Design channel, and he brought up the idea of alternating activations, but rather than alternating between activating single units, you activate a group of units. The idea is that this would help with the pacing and speed of resolution that AA games can suffer from when you have higher numbers of units and models.

Do any of y'all have suggestions for games that actually do this type of turn structure? It doesn't seem like something that would be uncommon, and I'd love to give them a go.

Sculpted and printed some custom helmets for my Ironjawz Brutes!

I sculpted and printed some custom helmets to give my Brutes those classic "black orcs" vibes. Kinda feel like GW missed an opportunity by not leaning harder into bringing those older designs into the modern age.

Crazy how much cooler Ironjawz Brutes look when they're wearing helmets!

Getting Heavy Metal Warfront ready for print-on-demand!

Hey-o, folks! I'm working on Heavy Metal Warfront, a sci-fi squad-level wargame of punk satire and heavy metal lunacy. Intended as a parody of Warhammer 40,000 and an homage to the game's earlier years, it combines modern takes on gameplay found in games like Star Wars Legion and OnePageRules, such as alternating activations and squad-leader-based movement, with the familiar Hit/Wound/Save combat and buckets of dice we know and (kind of) love from 40K. It also features the shenanigans that accompany various psychic mishaps, and random damage events for larger, more-powerful models.

The game's been up on WargameVault for a bit as a digital-only release, and it's finally in a space where I feel happy moving onto the next stage, which is getting the Core Rules ready for Print-On-Demand. I'm still working on the last bits of art, and you can see in the image gallery a completed illustration of a Voidbirthed Elf and a partial cut of the classic Space Marine (their chest plate features the billion-headed eagle emblem of the long-missing Eagle Ascendant - one head in front, the rest conveniently hidden by perspective). On a side note, I should add that this game is 100% human-made, and no generative AI was used whatsoever.

I'll post more art as I get it together. Looking forward to seeing what y'all think!

Best Settlement-Building/Improvement Rules Modules?

Hey up, folks, I was inspired by Quinn's Quest's review of Stonetop, and am now seeking your recommendations for OSE, B/X, and AD&D-compatible rules for settlement building and improvement, including establishing and developing NPCs. I'm hoping to find rules that have an emphasis on being player-facing and encouraging all the players to learn and engage in the mechanics, rather than just being a back-end/GM-facing toolkit.

Thanks in advance!
