Finally moved our Satisfactory server off my PC to a VPS, but here’s what nobody warned me about

Hey! Four of us, eight months in, deep into a late Tier 8 factory. I’d been hosting off my gaming PC the whole time, which was fine right up until my buddy in another timezone wanted to play while I was asleep. PC off, world gone… So last week I finally bit the bullet and moved us toserverspace, picked Amsterdam since two of us are in Europe. 8GB RAM, deploys fast, billing is per 10 minutes which is convenient when you’re spinning instances up and down while testing. Hetznerwould’ve been cheaper for the same specs but I’d already used SS for other stuff and didn’t want to deal with a new setup. Comes out to around $18/month, which four people splitting barely notice. Mostly painless, but…

First, the RAM numbers everyone quotes are nonsense. “12 GB minimum, 16 recommended” - ours idles around 7-8, then jumped past 9 the second we dropped a second nuclear plant and expanded the drone ports. It scales with how messy your factory is, not how many people are on. If you’re mid-Tier 5, 8 GB is fine for now, just don’t be surprised when it creeps up. Second thing that got me: single-thread CPU speed matters way more than core count, the sim barely uses extra cores. Picked the wrong plan first and paid for it.

And the one that cost me 40 minutes of swearing, after Update 1.1 you need TCP 8888 open too, not just 7777. Nobody mentions it. Also set systemd to Restart=always or it won’t come back after a crash, and back up your saves before every patch. We lost SIX HOURS to a corrupted one, so now it’s hourly rsync… So, guys, anyone running a game on a VPS, what specs are you actually seeing?

Can taking zinc long term cause copper deficiency or hair loss?

I picked up a plain zinc supplement for hair and then read that taking zinc on its own for months can pull copper down, which apparently causes its own problems including hair ones. Now I cannot tell whether that is a real concern at ordinary amounts or something people just repeat online. A few formulas do include both, which suggests somebody thinks it matters. Has anyone actually run into this?

Buying lights when the house is split between two ecosystems, how do you handle it?

My partner runs everything through Google and I am on Apple Home, and we have already had one argument about a set of lights that only properly worked on one of them. Buying twice just to keep the peace makes no sense. Is there a sensible way to pick lighting that behaves the same on both, or is somebody in this house going to have to switch?

Copped these Gel NYC 2055 for 7k

It was the last unit for 11uk with this colourway on Myntra. I was skeptical if I should keep this or return it because the shoes felt little tighter as I have wide feet and the right toe was hurting even with the slightest touch of the inner front of the shoe while walking but I just daily wore it for some time and now it does not hurt no more. Maybe it was hurting because I rarely wear shoes. Really impressed by the shoe material and the grip of the outer sole as it sticks to shiny floor like a bubblegum.

Do metal roofs actually make sense for lake effect winters or is shingle fine?

Our shingle roof is 19 years old, and this last winter finished it off. Ice damming along the north eave, a few shingles cracked from the freeze-thaw cycles, and granules filling the gutters. Half my coworkers say go metal for the snow shedding, and half say a properly vented shingle roof handles Erie fine. The metal quotes are running about 70 percent more. What’s the experience up here actually been?

anyone have a roofer they actually liked in the wilmington area?

Getting some quotes to replace our roof and it's been a nightmare. One company tried to pressure us into signing a contract on the spot, another one was double the price of everyone else. We're in north wilmington and just want a decent roof without getting ripped off. Anyone have a good experience with a local company? feeling kind of lost here.

Best down or down alternative pillow that actually holds its shape? Mine keep going flat

I’m done buying pillows that feel amazing for two weeks and then pancake. I want that plush, sink-in hotel feel but something that actually holds its loft over time. Open to real down or a good down alternative (I run a little warm, and feathers poking through drive me nuts). Budget is flexible, but I’d rather not spend $200 a pillow. What have you actually bought that’s held up? Side/back sleeper if that matters.

Help me please with reliable health insurance alternatives to ACA for self employed

I’ve been freelancing for a couple years now and my marketplace plan premiums just keep bumping up every renewal. Lol the coverage hasn’t gotten any better but the bill sure has. I know alternatives exist but every time I dig into them I either find something that sounds sketchy or something buried in fine print that makes it unusable. Are there legitimate options that self employed people are actually happy with? If yes please help me.

Flipkart cancelled my order because of their own mistake

On Monday I placed an order for New Balance 530 shoes which was on sale and I was getting them for ₹5022 with discounts. I paid through upi and the order was then placed on hold and then yesterday they refunded my money and cancelled my order and the reason for cancellation was that I haven't cleared my flipkart pay later dues which I had already cleared more than half an year ago and even closed my pay later account by contacting idfc first bank but flipkart has still not registered it as closed on their side. I have tried contacting their customer care support but it's almost non-existent, the ai chat option does not have any option to connect to an agent. I am actually more pissed about how they snatched the discounts from me, I was getting them for so cheap and now the price has again increased and the discounts are no longer available.
