100 vs 125 percent scaling on 24" 1440p monitor

I am on Fedora Workstation 44.

I have some options. Suggest me the best.

  1. 100 percent scaling with font scaling increased from GNOME Tweaks.

  2. 100 percent scaling with increased zoom in browser.

  3. 125 percent scaling with font size reduced.

And should I use anti aliasing and hinting from gnome tweaks or not.

125 percent looks very large and 100 percent makes text very blurry.

Baburam should be next president or atleast one of the advisor for PM.

You can hate all you want. Say maobadi, hatyara what not but for me this guys remains the best PM we got. He clearly knows what should be done. He remains critical when needed.

Might be switching back to Ubuntu from Fedora Workstation due to driver issues.

I loved Fedora's clean and minimal approach. Reason I left Ubuntu was due to the bloat and the OS did not felt like I owned it.

I had disabled snap and app center, but I wanted that vanilla GNOME.

And, I just learned that you can completely strip out Ubuntu modified gnome and install vanilla GNOME. So how viable of a option is this? Will updates, or anything break?

Another reasons is I want that deb repo apps as well.

For some reasons, my laptop speaker sound way better on ubuntu as well.

Also, Ubuntu by default has way better battery life than Fedora.

Some basic issues with Fedora Workstation 44.

  1. How to increase scroll speed? Default is way slower than Windows.

  2. What apps do you use to display power draw of the CPU?

  3. I am seeing miscro stutters when navigating. Any way to fix this?

  4. How to better manage power? Fans constantly spin and battery life is awful. Both was not a issue in Ubuntu.

30 days of using Fedora Workstation after switching from W11. But can you share what app do you use to take system snapshot like Windows System restore?

I need to take a snapshot of the system like Windows Restore or Windows Point in time restore did.

Love fedora but slow scrolling speed drives me nuts.

Due to slow scrolling speed, Windows 11 feels faster for browsing for me. Anyway to increase this?

I don't get the Swarnim Wagle hate.

Education and Health tax were controversial but was needed. Gov sometimes have to take harsh decisions and I am sad that Gov had to revoke tax due to populist backlash.

  1. Nepal spends around 60 % budget on recurrent expenditure(salaries, day to operations, insurance, freebies etc), 20 percent on capital expenditure (development and infra budget), and 20 percent on loan repayment.

  2. If you guys have been listening to what Swarnim has been saying from the election days, he has said that he plans to increase the tax areas, currently around 40 percent of the GDP is informal meaning that 40 percent doesnot come under tax framework and that's a massive tax deficit for a currently like Nepal. This ratio is highest of South Asian nations. Nepal's official GDP is 45bn and informal GDP is around 76bn so just imagine how much of nations products and services dont ome uder GDP.

  3. Both 3 percent taxes were meant to increase the health insurance pool and free education for those who cannot afford.

  4. I think 1 percent on private health, 3 percent on private education and 10 percent on foreign affilated privated education would have been better.

  5. His main goal is to increase tax revenue, decrease recurrent expenditure and increase capital expenditure.
Nepal ma bikas vayena vanna sajilo xa but tyo 20 kharba bata jamma 4 kharba matra bikas ma use vairako xa. Just imagine tesle k nai ukhadixa aile ko inflation ko jamana ma.

  6. Not saying hwattai tax badhauni but alot of sectors and area are still untaxed, and his main goal is to bring informal into formal economy. That alone would generate massive tax revenue.

  7. And this lottery system for tax receipts is chef's kiss. This alone will encourage many to ask vat bills and this ultimately will force business to come under formal economy. Taiwan is a good case study for this.

Also, there was less time for Wagle to prepare this budget, so the budget itself feels abit under researched in Nepalese context. Hope for the better this time.

Btw, Balen le fb ma announce gardai ma tax ghatdena, parliament bata majority le pass garnu parxa, so it should take few weeks before that 3 percent tax is removed.

My view on what should be amended in the constitution. Feel free to discuss.

Changes to the Federal Center

  1. Shrink the Lower House: Cut total seats from 275 down to 130.
  2. Fix the 100 FPTP Seats: Give 1 guaranteed seat to each of the 77 districts, then distribute the remaining 23 seats based purely on population density.
  3. Keep the 30 PR Seats: Keep a tiny, efficient pool for nationwide inclusion.
  4. End Prime Minister Vacancies: Change the law so a PM cannot be removed unless a replacement PM is successfully voted in at the exact same time (Constructive Vote of No Confidence).
  5. De-politize the Upper House: Turn the 59-seat political National Assembly into a 30-seat non-partisan house.
  6. Ban Politicians from the Upper House: Restrict seats strictly to independent technocrats and experts with 15–20 years of experience and zero party ties.

Changes to the Provinces

  1. Redraw the Map: Collapse the current 7 provinces down to 5.
  2. Fix the Borders: Slice the map vertically into North-South river basins so every province has an equal share of mountains, hills, plains, and Indian border trade.
  3. Change how the Leader is Elected: Switch from a parliamentary-chosen leader to a directly elected Chief Minister with a guaranteed 5-year term.
  4. Cap the Cabinet Size: Limit the provincial government to a maximum of 5 ministers to end bloated cabinets.
  5. District-Based Provincial Seats: Set the number of provincial assembly constituencies in each district to be exactly 2x the number of lower house MPs that district has (making a total of 200 seats nationwide).
  6. Strip Local Interventions: Force provinces to focus only on macro-regional infrastructure like highways and power grids, not local tasks.
  7. Restrict Infrastructure Powers: Confine development work strictly to large-scale, multi-municipality systems (state highways, regional power grids, major irrigation, and referral hospitals).
  8. Hand Over Police Command: Give the directly elected executive full, independent control over Provincial Police Administration and state-level security, ending Kathmandu's current monopoly.
  9. Secure Direct Tax Revenue: Grant exclusive rights to collect auto taxes, land registration fees, and a fixed high percentage of local hydropower and tourism royalties to end financial dependency on the center.

Changes to Local Bodies

  1. Ban Political Parties: Make all municipal and ward elections strictly non-partisan, banning party symbols and flags.
  2. Consolidate the Units: Merge and reduce the number of local governments from 753 down to 500.
  3. Remove Lawmaking Powers: Strip local bodies of independent legislative powers so they function purely as executive service delivery engines.
  4. Direct Bank Pipeline: Pass laws to bypass provincial bottlenecks, sending federal grants and shared tax revenue directly from Kathmandu to the 500 local bodies.

Nearly 1 month of me trying different distros. I have fully settled on GNOME. Just my person opinion. Not hating anyone.
Here's what I tried first and issues with each.

  1. Ubuntu: Was already familiar with it as I used it on Windows VM. Didnot like snapo package management and less frequent feature updates. I am someone who loves to sacrifice stability for new features. I was on insider channel on Windows as well.

  2. Switched to Linux Mint. Right after booting, I new this was not for me. It looked ugly and extremely childish.

  3. Switched to Fedora KDE: While KDE had all the features I wanted, but it lacked that polish I expect from a modern DE. It looked dated. Animation felt weird. I would rate KDE even lower than Windows 11 for user interface. For features, it was 10/10.

  4. Settled on Fedora Workstation. It's smooth. GNOME is what expect a modern DE to look like. I have zero issues with how it operates. I do have some complaints about missing basic features but most of them are manageable through extensions.

Package management is quite simple here as well. I have disabled Fedora flathub completely, now I just have to deal with rpm and flatpaks.
No duplicate bloats. It is just clean, customizable, modern, sleek and smooth af. I am never leaving for another DE and distro.

I have allocated most of disk space to fedora and kept WIndows 11 as a backup because some apps dont work on linux. Fedora Workstation is my dailuy drriver now,
