Let's go, Eevee! I choose you!

A fun set that fits perfectly my gaming nostalgia as I'm one of the 'Adults Welcome!' Seniors who grew up with a Game Boy and Pokémon Red in hand. So of course I spend some time during my childhood catching pocket monster. And Eevee was always one of my favorites, so it was really enjoyable to build this little fellow here.

The facial features including the mouth, eyes, and nose are also printed on, and the set doesn’t include any stickers. That’s a big plus for me and not a given for all LEGO sets. The legs, tail, head, and ears are all movable and adjustable, so you can pose Eevee however you like. There are also some little Easter eggs hidden inside: A colorful strip with eight differently colored plates, which are probably meant to represent Eevee’s various evolutions. At least, that’s my most obvious theory; I can’t think of what else they might be supposed to represent. But oh well, you won’t see them once it’s finished anyway.

In any case, the finished Pokémon is really cute, feels extremely sturdy in the hand, and looks great too.

I think they’ve really captured Eevee very well here (pun intended!)

Dragon Ball: Tenkaichi Budokai + Minifigs

Set is from Pantasy, got the Custom Minifigs from Joy Bricks. I was surprised that most of the details you see are prints as I knew the big header under the roof is a sticker, so I thought there may be more. But in the end only the mentioned big header and a few small details on the walls are stickers. You can see the sticker sheet on the last picture, they even included replacement sticker if something goes wrong. But the tiles on the destroyed arena, the logo, the wood-marks on the roof and the Dragonball Plate are all prints.

There are also a lot of shiny gold bricks in the set around the arena which look really great.

Nothing much is going on behind the wall but there are basically the changing/waiting rooms for the fighters. You can store minifigs there, I also put the Dragon Balls I got there (not included in the set, they came with the minifigs).

Dragon Ball: Tenkaichi Budokai + Minifigs

LEGO DREAMzZZ 71508: The Fox Guardian Mech [Review] + Bonus-Zoey Polybag

Yesterday I presented the Never Witch's Midnight Raven, next up for me is the the Fox Guardian Mech.

The Fox Guardian set also comes in a pretty cool color scheme; here, the design features semi-transparent neon-green blades instead of the purple ones found on the Midnight Raven. With 883 pieces, it’s much quicker to build, and depending on the version some pieces may even be left over. That’s because here, too, we once again have two different builds to choose from, and we have to decide which one to go with partway through: either the upright-walking mech fox with a sword and claw weapon, or the four-legged flying fox with wings.

The starting point is the same at first: We build a "base fox" and then make our selection at this point in the instructions (see Picture 2 and 3).

Of course, you can check out both builds on the box beforehand. I thought the Mecha-Fox was cooler, so that’s the version I went with, but it’s definitely got something going for it as a flying mount, too.

Let's talk about Minifigures: (Picture 4)

A lot of effort has clearly gone into these again. The minifigures in Dreamzzz are truly high-quality compared to other series. Mateo is back again, but this time in armor with a transparent neon-green sword and shoulder pads. The legs are once again dual-molded and intricately printed; the hairstyle is slightly different, but the face is identical.

Izzie also comes with a swap face, shoulder pads, and a sword (in her case, blue-transparent), as well as a very cool crystal-like hairstyle, similar to the one we’ve already seen in a different color scheme on her clone, Dizzy.

The Nightmare Emperor is probably the highlight in terms of figure design: Although he doesn’t has an interchangeable face, he also comes with a mighty sword, sports a long beard, a shaggy cape made of shadow beasts, and an impressive hairpiece with a crown and six extra eyes.

Then there are two small nightmare critters; they don’t have proper minifigure bodies, but at least they come with printed heads. One wears a black hood over his head, the other a knight’s helmet with a crystallized feather, and each holds a weapon in his hand.

Z-Blob is back as well, along with a small fox mold. There’s also a side build for this one - the scene where the fox is originally found (Picture 5).

Bonus Content: I also got a polybag with my sets for Zoey (Picture 6).

DREAMzZz 71478: The Never Witch's Midnight Raven

People often accuse LEGO of relying too heavily on licensed products while neglecting its own creative output, but every now and then, its own brands get a chance to shine. One of LEGO’s newer original series is Dreamzzz, a sort of family-friendly version of Freddy Krueger: The story goes that children are kidnapped by the Nightmare King while they sleep, and the Dream Guardians / Dream Chasers step up to fight him. There’s also an animated series spanning several seasons that you can watch while building.

As a series, Dreamzzz is probably a creative set developer’s wet dream. Since it’s set in a dream world, virtually anything is possible: from tiger shark tanks to plush bunnies that transform into gigantic mechs or flying gamepads, as well as numerous nightmare creatures. Many sets are also 2-in-1 or 3-in-1, offering different building methods and options. For example, the tiger shark tank can transform into an airship, or Zoey’s Time Owl can become a sort of raft.

Since the series is now basically over I picked up a few sets that really caught my eye before they went EOT. And on the villains’ side I got the Never Witch’s Midnight Raven.

Dreamzzz introduces many interesting pieces and colors that you don’t normally find in sets: light blue brick, green flames, and plenty of purple accents. The large crystallized blades that serve as feathers on the raven’s wings are particularly striking.

Perched on the raven itself is a little witch’s cottage, along with the Never Witch’s bubbling cauldron. There’s also a trapdoor on the raven and purple spiderwebs on the sides that you can open and close to access the raven’s interior. These two chambers can be used either as storage space or as prison cells.

On picture two we see the Minifigs:

The star of the set here is the Never Witch, who is also perched on a demonic pedestal, making it seem as though she’s floating in the air on magic and shadows. In the series, she stole the Dreamers’ memories, which are also imprisoned here in glass vessels - including one inside her staff. These are printed, transparent tiles, and more of them can be found on her raven as well. The witch also features an elaborate headpiece with a crown and long, salmon-colored hair.

Standing by the Never Witch’s side are Dizzy and Dogan/Bogan, the evil nightmare doppelgängers of the heroes Lizzie and Logan. Both have heads with interchangeable faces and elaborate hairstyles; Dizzy in particular stands out here with her crystal-like, sparkling hair. Dogan comes with a shoulder piece, as does Dizzy, but she also includes a skirt. The chest, back, and legs are each printed.

On the side of the good guys, we have Mateo holding his green slime buddy Z-Blob in his hand and sporting a sort of launcher on his back as well as wearing a vest. The figure also has a modern hairstyle, an interchangeable face, and even dual-molded legs, which are printed on the sides as well.

Astrid Schönbauer is also an important character in the series. In reality as well as in the dream world, she uses a wheelchair, though in the latter she can at least fly using rocket propulsion. The figure isn't quite as elaborate and comes with a standard (not that fitting) hairstyle, but it does at least have a torso printed on both the front and back, as well as printed pants (including printed shoes with a metallic sheen). The figure itself is also unique and isn't included in any other Dreamzzz set.

Also included in the package is a raven figure with outstretched wings in black and semi-transparent purple. As far as I can tell, this is the same bird in alternate colors as the phoenix from the Harry Potter sets.

Oh, and the Midnight Raven also has an alternate build, though it’s a scaled-down version because the parts are used for side builds. The manual just splits of at some point as you can see in the fourth picture. But I found the “ultimate housing raven” much more interesting than the standard raven with the additional builds.

There are also stickers. I haven’t applied them yet, but there are only four relatively small ones - two on the house and two on the cauldron.

L9071 Castle Banquet Hall

Happily build this set over the last few days, 3232 pieces with an amazing lighting kit. It's not my first Lumibricks/Funwhole set but surely the biggest and most impressive one.

The set comes with 7 figures and three sets of instructions; as is typical for Lumibricks the manuals leave no questions unanswered, and I didn’t run into any problems. Attaching the first roof might be a bit tricky, but the instructions are undoubtedly among the best and easiest to understand on the market. In particular, the wiring is always explained clearly and in detail, but you're probably used to it if you've ever build a Lumibricks set.

The castle is completely enclosed and looks fantastic as is, but it can also be opened in several places to play inside. There are smaller openings at the back, but you can also remove the right side entirely. When open, it looks like the image shown in the first picture.

The lighting box is hidden at the bottom next to the cellar (it runs on 3 AAA batteries, or you can simply plug the USB cable into another port). The cellar itself can also be pulled out and is playable, just as the table can be easily removed if you’d prefer to have the hall clear to use it as a ballroom, for example. The instructions suggest a few scenes here and also tell the story of who the characters are, etc.

To make a long story short: King Arthur’s daughter, Princess Annie, is marrying Edric, the prince of the neighboring kingdom. Queen Sarah, Edric's best friend Edwin, and a maid named Hermione are also there... and somewhere in the castle, a thief is lurking, hoping to seize the moment!

Anyway. Of course, all the pieces are printed - from the carpets to the pennants, and especially the beautiful windows. There are no stickers here. You certainly can’t go wrong with this set if you’re in the mood for a beautiful castle and a medieval-themed set.

Livestream mal wieder Bodenlos

Let's play! LEGO Icons #10323 PAC-MAN

Made sure I got my set on Insiders Days before it goes EOT and it was really a fun build... mostly. There are some parts that are less fun, but we come to that.

The set comes with a big manual, a big sticker sheet and 2651 pcs in 14 numbered steps. If you open the manual you also find 6 pages full of information about Pac-Man. I really like it when they give us some trivia first about what we're actually building instead of jumping right to the first steps.. which is the 'side build' you see on picture 1 and two: Pac-Man with two ghosts. There is some technic inside the black box, so if you push the pin on the back inside the ghosts flips and Pac-Man becomes the hunter instead of the hunted. You can also notice the printed round 1x1 on the front with Pac-Man and four ghosts.

Afterwards you continue with the base of the arcade which also includes a light-brick that can be switched on by pressing a button (picture 3), lighting up the coin case and simulating the start of the game.

Now the game is simulated with a board you build and this part is a bit tricky and sliiiiightly annoying. What you see on picture 4 are the pins you stick into the board later to simulate the dots Pac-Man needs to eat. Of course, it's very repetitive to go through the same steps 64 times. Then you also build the chain that moves the ghosts (and Pac-Man of course) around the board, which is also made from a lot of (I mean 55) chain links and then fiddled in between the wheels. You also need to be very careful with it, I later realized that the chain wasn't running smoothly, so I had to take everything apart again to get back to the chain. That wasn't much fun - but it was my own fault so I can't really complain.

Once you finish the gameboard and hooked it in, you finish building the arcade machine around it. On the top is a wheel you can turn to change the score. Those are stickers, but the three big "PAC-MAN" panels on white ground are actually prints. Those are really nice prints... but then again the huge logos on the side (last picture) are stickers again.

There is also another side build / mini build of the pac-man arcade machine you can put inside the machine or display outside. It also comes with a nice minifig who wears a fitting pac-man shirt and is ready to play the game herself.

On the last picture you also see the crank that makes the chain turning and move the figures around on the board. Of course you can't really play the game, just move the chain along - the joystic is just decoration.

So how do you like the VR Qualifiers so far?

To be honest, I find it kind of disappointing. It’s very easy to win, but you also have to win with a very high score to make the Top 1,000 cut, which is kind of silly and shouldn’t be the point of the game.

Also, even though we’re all playing against bots, the teams vary a lot, and it’s kind of unfair that some teams are terribly weak and made up of yellow-tier or even weaker players, while other times you’re up against a team full of Legendary players with the full set of two Heroes and a Fable-tier goalkeeper. Sure, you can still beat these teams easily, but not as decisively as against the weaker teams and you will have a much tougher time scoring 8 or more goals against them.

Victory Road Qualifier is way too easy

I know we're playing bots, but c'mon. At least give us the 4-0 advantage win to save some time. This could have been two wins instead of one.

Also insgesamt 10 Droids.

LEGO Harry Potter 76478 Book Nook: Dumbledore's Office

Build the set today, 10 packs with 1,182 pieces. There are also two sticker sheets as shown in the last picture. Not a big fan of those, personally I would have preferred printed parts, but it is as it is.

In the third picture I put it "into action" on my bookshelf, but it's actually a little too long for it and sticks out a bit. Personally, I don't have any books that are as long as the Book Nook right now. It would fit better if turned sideway but the sides are rather ugly and also the 'books' in Dumbledore's office are 'shining through' it.

So yeah, overall I think it's fine if you put it on display as in picture 1 or use it like that as a playset, but I don't think it's a good book nook (unless you have different books that fit the measurements better).

I'm new to the series and VR's Chronical Mode is doing a terrible job

Victory Road is basically my first IE game. I played one of the games on the DS a bit, and I get that Chronical Mode is basically Fan Service for most of the longtime fans to replay their favorite moments of the series, but as a complete newcomer I'm really disappointing about the mode and how they explain stuff... as in 'they basically explain nothing.'

Would it be to much to ask if they at least bit a bit of text at the start of each Chronical Battle, like a "What previously happend" or something like that. I don't expect more cutscenes, but just a summary up front of what's actually going on between the individual stations. That would have been very helpful because sometimes there are huge stakes for those games, like people talk about getting killed or the fate of the whole planet is based on one game and I'm like.. "Okay, I guess that's fine?" I dunno, because no one really explains why or how it happened and you only get to see a few bits of a story.

I get the overall timeline and what we are doing there, but the single story arcs only leaves question marks in my head. Between routes I meet the same faces from time to time, always in different teams. Like Jude. He starts with Royal Academy, then he's with Raimon and then he's with this and that and always on another Team, but they rarely tell how or why he changed his school/Team. Eventually Mark is playing for a Team called Everytown for some reason. Or I play with the National Team of Japan who I think would probably represent the best of the best, but then a girl in their starting eleven cries out she has never played Football before. While playing in the National Team starting lineup. Like... why?

And it keeps going on like that. So I think a little bit explanation would be nice at those points, like how it came about and how these teams actually form. But sadly the game is really missing out at that, leaving me with a shallow and incomplete experience.
